You will need a spring compressor to get the srings off the struts, but those can be rented from autozone for $40.. and you get all $40 back when you return the compressor. C'mon down here. Pull it into my garage and we'll get it knocked out in a couple hours.

My Twagon is currently down. (Full Story later) So, once again, 78TurboBrat Has bailed my sorry rump roast out of a sticky situation by loaning me his 83 GL Brat. The catch : Bad tranny The fix : 2WD 3AT from an 88 Turbowagon. Result - FWD Brat..lol.. For anyone else that ever wants to do this conversion (although I can't imagine why) its pretty easy.. only real modification was to drilla couple new holes in the tranny Xmember Its a loud. old, rattly, UGLY, multicolored POS and my wife hates it and laughs at me every time I drive it.. I may just have to get myself one of these things:grin: PS, whoever it was that said Brats (EA81s in general) are easier to work on than My turbowagon is full of ****. That is all.

If you have the stuff, why are you asking.. Get out there and TRY it!!! and report back.

I have heard the older impreza coilovers can be made to work. Not 100% positive though. Will know for sure in a month or 2

I have a cal model EA82T in my car. Not only does it not have an EGT, it doesn't even have an EGR...made it weird trying to hook up everything in a 49 state car.
-
Perhaps its an EDM crossover / up pipe The EDM turbos had EGT instead of O2
-
My 87 used to be an air ride car too. There really isn't a need for a write up.. Unbolt the air ride shocks/struts Bolt in the standard ones 2 bolts and 3 nuts each for the front, 3 bolts each for the back.

You can try some needle nose pliers, but why not spend the $10 and just get the tool and save your knuckles ans save the possibility of damaging the piston?

I have part of an 83-84 manual in .pdf format. I can send it to you if it would help -
I would like to get a FSM, where?
calebz replied to Alex C's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I saw one for an 80 in one of the used book stores around here a while back It took me a year to get mine , complete and for a decent price. -
Project RX: Still not running
calebz replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That sounds very reminiscient of my ignition module problems. Do you have a spare distributor to slap in there? -
I'm a little curious about theis as well.. At stock height, my pugs have rubbed a number of times when under load.
-
AutoZone will have or can get anything you need, as will any subaru dealership.
-
John, if the wagon in garland has them, then combined I think we have 4 sets.. Not that any of them will ever get used:-\

Steering wheel shudder is more often caused by alignment or tore balance problems. Axles will also cause it. Last strut I had crap out on a subaru caused the passenger side front wheel to hop when going through sweeping left hand turns.. it was pretty cool.. It completely destroyed the upper strut mount and bearings in the course of about 2 days.

I have an 83 Brat 3AT (4WD).. Bad tranny Also have an 87 GL-10 TurboWagon 3AT (Fwd).. Parts car I am having a little emergency currently and my White TurboWagon may be down for the count. Is the EA82 Auto Trans a direct swap for the EA81? I know I would lose 4wd in the brat, but I need it to go to work. Any reason it won't work?
-
Yes. The XT struts are quite a bit shorter than the regular 4WD struts, so the car will sit lower.

Turbo ign rotor on nonturbo?
calebz replied to DerFahrer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used an SPFI distributor on my Turbowagon and The cap and rotor are exactly the same as the two turbo sets I have:confused: Perhaps its only the prehotwire ones that are different? -
lowering your car on a low budget.
calebz replied to lagwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Since everyone in this thread thus far has been talking about EA82s, perhaps you could explain the process of cranking down the torsion bars on an EA82? -
My rear safety belts are damp.
calebz replied to vortexx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
And we appreciate your patience -
Well, I can probably hook you up with a cheap set of stock crossbars. As far as the actual rack/basket part, there are no cheap ones. Unless you know someone that will make one for you/

If the owner of the lot is willing to file a lein on the car, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.. then he can legally sell it.. I don't know all the specifics of oregon laws, But I do know that in WA or TX, you will be able to buy it from him(after the lein) and register it, but it will be a while before you are actually issued a title. Beyond that, its front wheel drive and has a bad motor.. I wouldn't give much above $100 for it unless the rest of the car is in EXCELLENT shape. Oh yeah

Cargo cover repair -Loyale
calebz replied to prcaveman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You would need all the little mounting pieces as well.. I don't think the loyale has them. You would also need to cut some holes for the mounting pieces to go. BTW Goat.. did you ever get my PM about wheels and tires and such.. did it answer any of your questions?
