  1. Not that I am aware of.. blieve its signal come from the disty via the ECU... if the disty stops spinning, (or if something senses its not spinning) the fuel pump stops working. i'm with mick on the train of thought that something like th MAF isn't plugged in .
  2. Meeky should know.. he broke his last week.. Meeky? Sure glad 87+ doesn't have that
  3. I haven't swapped clusters yet.. that seemed like a lot of work for little return.. I may have to to pass inspection though.. Don't forget the rear diff. the one that came with your car is probably a 3.70.. the one you need for the D/R tranny is a 3.90.. I think Galen has one cheap in the marketplace. Meeky.. I have read a bunch of times that you need to swap the speedo cable when doing the conversion.. but I don't remember doing that.. maybe its just my memory failing with age though..
  4. Rough idle could = vacuum leak. Vacuum leak could = running lean. Running lean could = raised operating temp. Had that trouble with mine a while back If you don't know how old the t-belts and water pump are, replace them.
  5. Oz is usually a year ahead of us.. for example, they got the legacy(liberty) in 89.. we got it in 90. They got the new legacy turbo in 2004.. we will get it in 2005.
  6. John is one of the good guys. One of the soobs he did some work on lives all the way down here in TX. I'm sure others, more local to you will chime in. Rick is always full of nice things to say about John. (Full of other stuff too, but thats another story:D)
  7. I think yours is a hell of a lot cleaner than mine! Every time mine gets shiny.. It gets muddy again soon after.. its like a bad dog that has to go roll in mud after a bath:D Looks good though.
  8. Its from an 87.5 You need to get the pitching rod stopper and bracket from an XT with a spider.. I believe it mounts to the tranny instead of the engine... you might want to get the crank pulley too, as it has the timing marks on it. you wont be able to see the ones on th flywheel with the spider and proper rod.
  9. With Kids, leather is the only way to go. Easy Clean up. My soob is the first car I have had in a while with no leather.. Its ok because I can beat on it and not feel bad about it. The soob gets all the dirty jobs.. dog hauling.. stuff hauling.. My camry has leather.. but the wife drives it.. I miss leather..
  10. Check the little areas where the brake lines are flexible/rubber.. they can get old and expand when pressure is applied.
  11. The intake manifold is a lot easier than it looks.. after pulling the alt an AC out of the way, its only 6 bolts.. just dont break them..
  12. Yu Yup.. You will not be the first person to tow a car at 50MPH up or down I-5.. I have done it myself a few times.. No need to make it harder than it already is.. And personally, i would rather waste a couple of hours than the last of my money.
  13. I'll see what I can do.. I always seem to get in trouble for waving my wand around in public though.. Come to think of it.. I was about 2 hours north of denver when my cooling troubles started.. hmm.. colorado is cursed..
  14. Interesting.. mine suffers from gurgling turbo as well..and I did have a few cooling problems this past summer.. they seemd to resolve themselves though. I will be watching this thread closely.
  15. I have had driveshafts ping on other vehicles.. its always been just before the U joints go out...its that clear resounding ping like you whak the shaft with a wrench or something
  16. I have run a number of extra grounds in my old school soob. I wouldn't say that it made it more responsive or anything like that, but it did help with some odd gauge cluster happenings I was having.. Price: free.
  17. Come on you guys.. You're probably scaring this poor guy. Yes, subarus do blow headgaskets.. Its never happened to me, so maybe I'm doing something wrong:D The only symptoms you say you have had so far is the overheating and coolant boiling back into the recovery tank.. That can be as simple a thing as an air bubble in the coolant( you didn't mention whether it was diong it while the car was running, or after its shut off) .. Soob radiators do get old and crap out.. So do their water pumps. And no, just because a water pump quits does not mean its going to leak. Something as small as a bad radiator cap can cause cooling issues.
  18. I do remember now.. It seems to me that it looked pretty good..
  19. The ground is probably in the control unit, which is under the drivers seat.. under the carpet
  20. Theres at least one or two in spokane.. Baccaruda is the only one that comes to mind.... Oh yeah.. I think submonkey is there too
  21. Yup.. in your area thats true ( I grew up in Tacoma) Down here.. different story.. Us locals have only been able to find one turbo car in the yards... so we bought the whole thing and completely stripped it right there in the yard.
