The best tip or trick on the board is to search for Edrach's tutorial on changing halfshafts.. its been used by tons of first timers, myself included..(although I had the advantage of having Ed standing over my shoulder...)

Yeah.. those great guys.. I bought 2 axles from them with a lifetime warranty. I was moving from washington to texas.. they told me when I bought them that there was a store in Dallas.. Now that I need to return one of the axles for warranty work, the closest store is over 400 miles away in new mexico

Swap is done but it wont start!

Backfiring through the carb.. I would start by checking, and rechecking the timing. -
engine swap

You will need the wiring harness and ECU for the EJ20G You will need the wiring harnes, ECU and a RHD car for the twin turbo models -
MPFI to SPIDER swap, some MORE issues see below
calebz replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Which wiring harness/ECU/MAF are you using? if its the 85, then use the 85 vacuum advance dizzy.. if you swapped to the newer optical type dizzy, you would need the rest of the matching wiring and electronics to go with it. As far as the XT using the CAS dizzy.. it depends on what year it was.. They use the same motor as any other EA82T car, so I assume they follow the same standards.. CAS dizzys were used from 87-up.. -

In a car that came with the PB 5 speed, there is a plug like you described.. but its different, goes different places and activates different stuff than the wiring plug on your Auto car.. You have 2 options.. you can try to find and remove the wiring harness that controls those solenoids on your donor car.. or you can take a few feet of wire and wire the button to the solenoid(thats all the harness does anyway.. it just routes it differently than I would) There are 3 wires on the 4wd button.. one is power in(12v on with the key.. you will find plenty of those available when you unplug your AT shifter), two are power out to the solenoid pack .. the solenoid pack has 4 wires.. two are power in from the button(one for each solenoid) the other 2 are grounds.. just ground them to the body. The reason that you can't just plug everything in and go is because the AT doesn't use the vacuum solenoid type actuation for 4wd The only wires you need from the AT shifter plug are the 2 for the neutral safety switch and the one for the reverse lights. there are a number of 12v power wires in there.. real handy for wiring up the 4WD PB and .. other things.. -

Meeky The pushbutton 5 speed and auto use completely diggerent methods of switching in and out of 4wd.. the switch for the 5 speed doesn't plug into the old plug for the auto.. it is wired seperately to a pair of vacuum solenoids that mount on the drivers side strut tower(same as difflock controls). Its pretty easy. I'll be happy to help(via the board of course.. I'm not coming over..lol) -

Try to find a DL at the PAP.. they were bottom of the line, so I imagine it would probably be pretty easy to find a no AC bracket on one of those. D/R stands for dual range -
I would definitely have that manifold bolt dealt with.. Very possible to end up with an intake leake if you don't.

Not saying that Qman is wrong. This is just an observation. On my last wagon(88) I had the 85-86 4WD adjustable suspension. On my current wagon(87), I have Loyale 4WD struts. These seem to be a little taller.. I have more room between my tires and fenders on this car. Also, When set nexts to steve's 87 wagon (before the lift). my suspension height seemed about the same as his when his air suspension was in the top position (mine was actually a little taller because of larger wheels and tires, but when that difference was taken into account, they were abou the same.)

Thats a beautiful hatch.. imported model or not, the steering wheel is still on the wrong side Really though, you have done a some nice work there

I just did 3AT to 5 SPD 4WD on my 87 Wagon in june. Most of your general questions have already been answered, but I figured I would speak up so you would know you aren't alone. Let me know if you run into any snags. BTW.. swapping that pedal box is a pain in the rump roast.. I found it real helpful to have a second set of eyes looking down from topside to see things I couldn't.. saved me hours of cussing.. Make sure its someonelike and trust, because when you guys are situated, it will look somewhat compromising to an outsider... -
Yup, 90 was the only year.. I am guessing that 89 and 90 were the years for genIII heads.. my 88 has gen II

I also experienced what rob did. after removal of the bottom of the airbox, my T-wagon was able to pull all the way to redline. it would 'run out of breath' before. I most definitely question Noah's numbers on this. Its nice to be able to say ' a certain mod only produces X amount of gain ', but it would seem very strange to me that so many people have had experience that contradicts this. Noah. Did you flow a turbo car? and what was your method?

Just be sure to get an OEM PCV if you do replace it.. I have heard terrible things about the parts store chepos.

Chongo, for that price you could have gotten a brand new weber, ditched all those crazy vacuum hoses, had a nice dinner out with your woman and still had enough left over for a full tank of gas, a case of beer and $20 left in your pocket. On the flip side, I think working on carbs sucks.. Thats why all my cars are FI

85-86 Turbo is 25 degrees. 87 and later is 20. I didn't give the numbers for 85-86 because the guy who originally posted has an 88. Myoss, My brutha.. Invest in an FSM.. they are full of all sorts of useful information.
