  1. Hijack.. Kevin.. what mods are you going to be running for your dyno dates?
  2. So come down and make me a package offer on all my extra turbo crap and drive home with it
  3. Just out of curiosity, are you guys with no covers running without the rear plastic as well? If so, whats the procedure for lining up the belts without the marks?
  4. Wheel bearings Think of the wheel bearings.
  5. I too thought the XT6 rears were one piece until I got mine. If I have time I will snap a pic tonight.. Don't have one seperated though.. Sorry.. and all my tools are at the shop.
  6. I have some no name japanese TT currently installed. its easier than it looks. I also have a blitz DCII (new) and an older blitz DCII that all the magic smoke was let out of. I'll be installing the new blitz shortly. Its the cool one with the digital boost gauge
  7. 17x7 And even then you will have to go with some stiff coilovers to avoid rubbing.. probably a little fender rolling as well.. The offset is not bad, but if you go with 17x8, you will probably end up with a little bit of tire sticking out of the fender well..
  8. Theres a TSB for fuel smell during cold weather in the WRXs.. perhaps the same or similar problem is manifesting itself in other newer soobs as well.
  9. I have 185/75/14s and the apre doesn't fit under the hood any more.
  10. Where I lived in Puyallup, there were 3 other EA82 wagons within 2 blocks of me.. there were 2 EA81 wagons just a little further away.. western WA is just crawling with old soobs.. its kind of an infestation there.lol
  11. Welcome. Always after some new tips and tricks
  12. Subaru of Dallas has some good guys .. they know their stuff pretty well, but still and all, I do most of my business with Auburn suabru in WA.. When I lived there they always had what I needed.. and now that I'm in TX, they can often get what I need to me quicker and cheaper than SoD.
  13. When I cut my hole, I put masking tape doen on the hood first. That helped minimize the chipping. I didn't treat it at the time with any primer or anything because I knew that the hole would be enlarged just a little before it was a finished product. As far as the painting goes, I have a friend that was working at a body shop at the time, so it was painted with a gun.. It came out well, but I didn't stress on it too much, as the whole car will be painted soon enough.
  14. Mudrat's adapter is for using EA 5 speeds with EJ motors in an EA car Josh's writeup is for using EJ 5 speeds with EJ motors in EJ cars apples to oranges
  15. if it makes any difference to your decision, I have done boise to spokane in about 8 hours with a car in tow.. 6 without..Mapquest says just under 7
  16. It was easy. I couldn't get to my angle grinder/cutoff wheel thing.. it was in a box somewhere, so I went to home depot and bought a metal cutting blade for my skil-saw.. $3.99 I had a hood to experiment on and I did a pretty rough job of it..lol After the experiment, doing my hood only took about 10-15 minutes.. I still need to go back and enlarge the hole about 1 inch in each direction.. When I did my measurements and cutting, I was a little on the conservative side.. just in case. In the pic you can see the outline for the scoop.. http://usmb.net/albums/albuo11/things_008.jpg The scoop itself has some double sided tape on it. I was a little wary of that, but so far it has been ok. It hasn't come off on the freeway even with the ungodly winds we get here. Only thing I have noticed that I am not real fond of has been vibration. When it comes out of the box, there is a wire mesh over the inlet. One good gnarly hail storm took care of that though. After that, the top of the scoop rattles a bit at high speeds. the wagon has been off the road for a while now, and in the process, I painted the scoop.. 3 coats of white and 2 coats of clear.. Its is a lot stiffer now and I am thinking that should take care of some of the flutter
  17. Search n00b!! Seriously though, there are a few different options for suspension, depending on your needs. The honda thing you refer to is the front springs from a late 80s accord.. They are a direct fit for the rear springs on an EA82. . I imagine the spring rate is higher, but the drawback (for me at least ) is that they raise the car somewhat) For lowering/stiffening, there are adjustable coilovers.. there are a few people that have them, but no 2 people are using the same set, so its still a little hit and miss. Brad is using springs intended for a VW, Tex has them for a Legacy. Mine are intended for a WRX. I don't know about tex's, but mine and brad's both involve a little grinding to fit on the front. Will post more later...

  19. http://www.timesert.com/ I used them on my turbo motor. Haven't gotten it in the car yet, but after stripping more than one headbolt at less than OE torque specs, I did all 18 holes with these things... felt sooooo much better when I put the heads on this time. I seem to recall hearing that CCR uses them on their EA82T rebuilds as well. If you can't get them locally, let me know. Theres a place about 30 miles from me that has them for a decent price.
  20. As has been stated, those are gen 2 heads.. The shortblock is really hard to tell..if the cylinders look good and there were no funny noises when cranking, I say go for it. I, from experience, recommend timeserting the headbolt threads.. especially if the block has seen some heat. Cam frozen? wow.. just wow. EGR.. I'm in the same boat.. my motor in its original car didn't have an EGR either.. somae motor now in another car, I had to use a diffferent intake manifold with the EGR stuff on it. I left everything in place and too the hard line that runs from the intake to the head... went down about 6 inches, cut it and plugged it off. I get no codes, inspectors see a stock EGR setup, it worked well for the remainder of that motor's life, and seeing how I am using the same heads and intake on the new motor, I expect it will be the same for quite a while yet.
  21. If it makes you feel any better, the past 3 times I have put new tires on a car, it has been hit within 3 weeks.
