I have a Subaru short shifter in my WRX. I love it. I would stick with teh factory unit. It is pretty straight forward installation, not hard for me, but then I can rebuild the complete car.

Yea, they are usually GL models, but they are special order cars. Since all the RX's from 87 to 89.5 were only available in white, some people wanted the performance package (basically the D/R center lock and LSD rear diff) in a different color. Yes, these are the one of the rarer Subarus around, probably rarer then the black RX's. If you look at the VIN, instead of 56B, it will be 55B. They are good to keep, but unless you can get the factory build sheet or dealer window sticker with the options called out, it could be a conversion, and therefore less desireable.

My biggest b i t c h about the route is that there never seems to be enough places to pass, and when one does come along, there is always traffic coming the other direction. It usually moves right along, but I just can't stand being behind someone (I guess it is that competative nature of mine). It's really pretty in the summer time, and just as pretty went there is snow on the ground. But with the snow comes the little old ladies with the loose tire chains, going 5 mph, and no where to pass safely. You drive past Detroit Lake, which used to be really nice, but someone felt that there was too much water behind the dam and darn near drained it, it has never really recovered. It was once a great recreational lake, now it is too low to get you boat into. Anyway, it should be cooler that going up through Redmond and Madras.

OK, that takes you through Sisters and past Black Butte, nice drive. This is probably the route that I have driven the most (since I have a sister who lives in Sitsers), don't know why I didn't recognise thw road numbers.

OK, now all the siding is finished. Start of the garage doors this week, as well as the wiring. Got to go get the permit, but don't need it to start, just when I get it inspected.

I've been that route too, not bad, but could be much hotter then the other route you stated earlier, after you get through Madris (sp??) you start heading back up into the mountains. This route drops up into the east side of Portland. I'm not sure of the traffic on I205, but if you start from Vancouver in the morning, it should be lighter the further north you get.

Ed, thanks for your help on Saturday. It's kind of an illussion, only the front and the side you see are finished, I'm going to try and get the other sides done today. I'm running a little behind, I was hoping to get the doors at least started. Had to do the cemetry visits yesterday, so I lost about half a day of work, but it was worth it.

Windows??? I don't need no stinking windows!!!!!! That's what they made overhead lighting for, and the electrical part has only begun.

Ed, if it has a manual and a 2.2, it was a conversion, not stock from the factory. Cleck the link in the second post www.cars101.com , look at the 93 or 94 model year of Impreza, you'll see that the 2.2 wasn't even available those years, the first year it was available was 95, and then only with an automatic.

Yea, but the roll up are the only kind that they manufacture anymore. I tried to find someone who manufactures or sells swing type door, and there aren't any.

You don't have to look under the hood, the grilles are different.

I think the way Dave was talking about is shorter, I've driven both routes several times from Reno, I'm sure the Kalamath is the shorts, it definately is the straightest in direction.

The early ones were only available with an automatic tranny. I don't think you could get a manual with a 2.2 until 96 or 97.

I don't know about the XT6, but on the four cylinder cars a 4WD car's VIN begins with JF2, a FWD cars begins with JF1. But it wouldn't have a center lock diff if it was a FWD car. Maybe it was a conversion.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing, It should be less then a 5 hour drive from Eugene to Olympia, leaving at 7 AM would put you in there at noon at the latest.

The RSs are hydraulic clutches if I remember correctly, and therefore the tranny is different then the other cable release type clutch trannies. You'll need to find tranny from a car with a hydraulic clutch, another RS or a WRX. I don't know what the gear sets costs, but if you can do it yourself, it will save you alot of money.

Damn Ed, two FWD Legacys. I wish that I wasn't busy with my garage, I'd pull one of those trannies. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will pull the engine and leave the tranny.
