Groaning sound when turning
FirstSubaruGLwagon replied to Dianalee's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Growning from the CV shaft? Or is the growning from your Power steering pump? Low power steering fluid , air or moisture in the lines will cause a growning noise in the power assisted rack and in the pump If you have power steering that is. -
Do VW 4 lug rims, like the ones below, fit on a subaru?
-
Check out these pricy Michelins http://www.libraracing.com/tires.htm but i think they only come in 14 and 15 I like the kumho R700 also maybe a 13"farm tractor tire http://www.firestoneag.com/index.asp http://www.firestoneag.com/search_results.asp?ref=2 BF goodwrench snow tire Hakkapeliitta http://www.magneticcouch.com/sale.html Or you could drill out some 12" ATV rims and get some really agresive tires on your subee

WELL I did something to it:mad: I was going down a dirt road at night about 35mph and I hit a huge wash in the road and caught some air. About 3 seconds later I side-swiped a doe, and crushed her back legs:( I backed up just to see her pull herself off the road and into the woods. I hope she dies quickly:( I have no gun to kill her Now however the Sube won't run at idle. It starts fine and drives OK but at idle it misses and then cuts off:mad: Any Ideas? Still sick over the deer thing to

automatic transmission adjustment
FirstSubaruGLwagon replied to morceau's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey morceau There is a shift adjustment screw on the Modulator valve, where the vac line fits up to it. (there should be anyway)if you take the vac line off and look into it you should see a little sloted adjustment screw in there. not shure which direction does what check your instructions that came with the valve. -
Kinda like a RV roll out canopy???????

I just got a simular set of rims, however i havent mounted mine yet. I think that,,,, If you look closer at the rim hole you will notice that it curves in causing a "valley" to run along the bolt pattern. Oridginaly this design was to alow the rims to be tightend up while not streching or damaging the threads on the stud. The steel rim would flex just a minute amount. In contrast a aluminum aloy rim sits flat againt the hub and it doesn't "flex" that is why Aluminium Rims have to be torked (torqued) with a tork (torque) wrench , so the threads on the studs won't be streached (or damaged or even broken) by over tightening. As long a the "bead" you speek of makes a good continious contact with the hub it should be fine I used to work for a firestone dealer "tire and lube guy" However i have been known to be wrong;) Bump for intrest or correction:)

which year did subaru start puting disks on the rear? One easy test would be to block a wheel, put it in "N", and jack up each wheel and spinn it , if you notice a place where the wheel catches or where it incounters friction on the disk then that will give some idea as to which rotor might be worse. Just an idea anyway:)
-
I have shake in the front and in the steering wheel when braking also. I've noticed if i go real slow and let the car coast with very gentle pressure on the brake peddle , you can feel it grab and release,, So in my case i'm sure it is a warped disk or rotor. Thinking back,I have known people to put brand new rotors on a car and then drive through water when the rotors are hot and warp them.

Official Lift Kit Group Buy
FirstSubaruGLwagon replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
No worries here. That happens when your starting up a business providing a product. In the future you might want to do what "Scotty" did when asked how long it would take to repair the Enterprise He would say like 3 days when it would actualy take 2 hours;) "How else are you going to be know as a miracle worker?"- James Doohan. -
well thinking about what i did:rolleyes: ,, I baught some 15" white spokes from summit racing for about 34$ a rim. looking back however i have actualy had a difficult time finding off road tires that will fit on the 15" rim without modifying the wheel well.,,, its actually easer to find 27 inch mudd or Off road tires to fit a 14" rim, than a 15" rim. well thats my experiance so far. I have found a couple of options in a 225/70R15 wich is just over 27" . the 215/75R15 will work but its actually closer to 28" and the still may need to be some finder mods even with a 4 inch lift. Very hard to find a MT tire in anything smaller in the us Not to mention the fact I am going to have extra hole on my rims ( won't that just look dandy) So looking back,, i wish i had bought the 14" scorpions or jackmans

front end noise (FIXED!!)
FirstSubaruGLwagon replied to karinvail's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
:oI have a question that might fall into the realm of this thread.. :confused:I have a low roar in my car cmming somewhere from the drive-train . :-\It is loudist from 10-25 mph. it does not change tone or pitch when I turn. :(I know i have a worn CV because when I turn the wheel at it's tightist turn I can hear the CV "clunk clunk clunk clunk" I thought maybe it was the tires but they seem smooth enough. Could this be a Bearing? I put the car on a jack and tried to shake the wheels and their tight,,, and they spin good. Any Ideas? -
Ok now thats just sick. LOL Is that where the Grand Canyon starts??
