  6. Does the car have a MAP senser? we had a ford the did the same due to a faulty MAP sensor there is also something called a MAF valve I think But, it does sound like it may be a vacume issue, if it is FI Oh OH Oh and what about a TPS (Throtle position sensor) does it have one of those?????
  7. 1. try cleaning the govenor, there is an "how to" somewhere on this site. 2. replace the modulator valve, 30 dollars from advance auto. and also relace the rubber vac line. 3. make sure the tranny is not "over filled" or under filled. 4.if nuthing else works, try the band break adjustment( USE EXTREME CAUTION) and if all of that doesnt work,,, just do like me and keep driving it anyway :-p:lol: Oh , and i was able to find a place specializing in subaru parts here in NC! http://www.halspartsandservice.com/
  8. Just woundering. maybe someone here with expiriance could tell me. Could a faulty of leaking vacume system on an 86 carbed ea82 could cause transmission shifting problems? Also, any info or ideas on proper vac readings and guage hook up points? Thanks
  9. Subaru in the late 80s apparently used the "Part of the month" on their engines, and the parts database at every auto shop I've been to just has a big list of parts. The proper part will most likely be in the list, but good luck finding it without the old part. I've started keeping part numbers in my glovebox for common things. -=Russ=- Running into a bit of the same problem my self. with my 86 wagon, ((85 production date 86 model)) apparently they changed alot betwine 85 and 87 Also I was suprised to find out there were so many differances in the drive train of a DL and a GL of the same year. everything from distributer caps to inner tie rods to springs and shocks and much more
  10. I think, copetatively, the prices are very good. I would love to get a kit. But i'm just poorer than dirt.
  11. " Relays?,, we don't need no stinking relays!" Thanks for the very helpful sugestions and links. I really like the aux panel idea. Now all I have to do is rewire EVRYTHING!

  14. Up till now, I have just been wiring my extra lights up to the fuse box, however I know if I keep adding lights, I am bound to have some electrical problems. Does anyone know a web page that outlines and diagrams the proper way to wire auxiliary lights?
  15. [ here is a shot of my dash layout now. Hey Tin!, I just upgraded my stereo to a late model subaru stereo, however it sticks out about 1.5 inches . Where did you find the basel or radio cover ?
  16. " you don't want this car any more...... you want to give it to me.... and go home and rethink your life...."
  17. Mayby a caviler wagon? Possibly Oldsmobile Omega/ferinza wagon? but more likly a K-car,, man its hard to find a good photo of a K-car wagon! maybe because they all have been smashed.
  18. If it's the air duct, REMOVE it, sound is more important than heat or A/C . Gary LOL um,,,,,someday i would like to think the AC might actually be able to work
  19. Ok so I won a NEW subaru stereo and CD player on ebay. got it and saw i needed to changer the harness. So I did that. hooked it up and it sounded like crap. Then I found out that the OEM speakers are 8om and the new stereo requires 4om. Ok well I went out and bought new speekers:rolleyes:, hooked it up and it still sounded bad! turns out the old speaker wires grounded the frount and rear speeker negative wires togather. So I rewired the speakers:banghead: Ok it sounds good now,,, but guess what?? The new radio is deeper than the old one and sticks out about 2 inches from the counsel because it is hitting an air duct or heater core. What do I do now guys,,, is there a kit that will look good?
  20. these are cheap -55$ any ideas? I would like some mild MT's if theyre not too expensive.. thanks dunlop used to have a downlowdable rebate for that tire
  21. I had a very simular experiance with an old volvo once. I went though that car and tested every thing,, replaced 3 relays and finally replaced the main computer... After all that work and expence , turns out it was a really bad tank of gas I had filled up on at a local Gas&Go.
  22. Now all you need is your Subaru cirtification and you can be pulling down 40 bucks an hour ay the local dealership
