+2, I'll second Subyrally nice work, thanks for the effort. -
Jerry (Bratsrus) has done this mod might hit him up for some tips if you and Subyrally come to terms. Jerry knows his fab stuff!!

nice shot Andy!! "Spelunkers do it deeper" I know most of these are for "Off Road" But here in PA, lights on the roof must be run with the covers on when driven on the highway. Is this a wive's tale? and/or do other states have this rule?

Congrats on the Seafoam it has worked some miracles for many. If it happens again. it may be related to the FI CTS Fuel Injection Coolant Thermo Sensor. Sometimes the contacts want cleaned. It is shown under the upper rad hose connection not to be confused with the dash sensor (the sensor with spade connector)

Like Tom says. Welcome to the good ship USMB. Little far away to offer help but would suggest you download a copy of "How to keep your Subaru Alive" http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/service/htkysa/htkysa.htm a.k.a. HTKYSA Good porcelain "thrown" material. Also keep the peepers pealed for a FSM* for your cars (The Bay of Evil has them many times) *Factory Service Manual Here's wishing many miles of smiles in you new Su Bar Ru -
another quick test of the above problems that I have not seen mentioned is run a "hot lead" (piece of 14 AWG or so wire) fom the battery positive terminal to the small spade connector on the starter If it cranks you have two easy options 1) install a "never fail" button or 2) Add an aux. relay operated by the ignition switch to operate the starter solenoid. as such

Just to follow up on the excellent replies thus far and possibly give you a better "look" at why what they say is true. Here is the "in tank" gauge sender unit. I removed no covers this is what is in the gas tank as it sits. The float moves a sliding contact on an open potentiometer Hope this gives you a "minds eye" idea of what is "going down".

thanks for the "insider info" OB99 This noise comes from under the bonnet? or could it be a speedometer cable that's cold? Strike that 1998, no speedo cable. Try a new aircleaner if it's close to being due. The restriction change may change the resonant frequency. You would then know it's intake noise and not an idler pulley ready to pack it in and possibly cause some real serious damage. (T-belt idler vs drive belt idler) "I listen to the car engine sounds like in certain case situations like the high pitch sound"

Thanks, John Good Eye!! 87 GL-10 I've posted this pict quite a few times hope folks are not getting tired of seeing it.

Howdy David, thanks for the compl. I've never seen a duel alt setup, sounds kewl. I have never had any problems with the XT6 alt. (about a year and a half) I was eating alts to the tune of one every 6 mo. before the swap. here are a couple "on the bench" in my shop Please note: There is a swap to a high amp GM alt. Some like it better as the GM alt is an easy find.

well put msmith!! 1800 =1.8 x a grand I was not far off, just kinda figured it would be close to his buy it now price. I don't know if I could find a 99 EJ25 blown HG and all for under 5c-notes. (pre 99 four bolter could be used I guess? if all the sensors (intake) would be swappable - we need IM stickers, i.e no CELs) But G is correct, for a few dollars more this could be a real nice Oh Bee. car-part.com is what I use mostly.

Sorry, I should have asked via PM. This gentleman, used the antlers he found that were shed by bucks in the area. He carved some serious nice stuff. (a tobacco pipe for the president for instance) I visited him in your beautiful part of the country 25 years ago. He would be in his late 40's age wise. Had one serious hot GF also!! He could have switched to furniture?? I do apologize for the hijack. N-knee-wayz back on subject. I own 6 different model Legacys (3 turbos, a GT wagon, OhBee wagon and a VDC), if I can of any help with pictures ect. please ask.

Thanks, many have seen her here's Willy the wunder wagon. why she's still running -I wunder This is her lump (engine)

Being from PA I agree with G and know Sube360, knows these cars very well. This statement may be hard to do with an EJ25. Here in western PA N-knee-wayz. Being a 99 may present some issues if a 95 or so EJ22 was put in. To retain value, some of these non-Sube people want an original engine (size wise). I think the 1 grand target purchase price is correct. This guy wants almost twice that => ?? Come on Tom, work your magic!!

G as you really know your stuff, I'm also trying to help cd find this. But I'm corn-fused by these statements "Below the driver side of the air cleaner is a UFO looking device," Then you say "It's right above the thermostat housing" I thought the T-stat housing was on the pass. side??

Nice find!! Is that the AWD tranny with the center diff lock? It might be a nice score also? (might grab the rear diff also- you might get lucky?) The flywheel is also lighter.
