  1. I did search 1st, but no joy, new to me SVX:banana: 92 170k, check engine light comes on goes off, starts good drives good. How to pull codes for CEL? Done it on 90 legacy but this SVX is blinding me with it beauty and awe:eek:..........thanks all,G
  2. Thanks to all, never thought about pullin the engine first, so one way or another it'll get done. Thanks again:)
  3. Anyone have advice for pulling a tranny in the pullnsave, they don't allow jacks or power tools and I am wondering what others have done to "catch" that baby when it drops:eek:. I will be working solo on this:rolleyes:..............G
  4. SWEEET! Love it and take care of it, they are RARE and getting rarer, see mine herehttp://thebratpen.com
  5. You could try this, swing the caliper away from the rotor and push the piston back in as far as possible then swing caliper down and hit the brakes. Repeat this action several times to loosen the pistons travel, my legacy's pass side brake stuck last fall and I tried that procedure, so far so good:rolleyes:. No cash required...............G
  6. O K guys/gals what year manual trannys will fit our beloved 1st gen legacys, mines really tired at 339000 and I need options, I searched 10 pages and really didn't find a fer sure answer, oh yea found a 97 leg with 139000 at the j/y so hurry and tell me to to go get it:banana:, I know the rearend ratio has to match the tranny ratio but thats all I know,...... well not all:-\, Thanks people.............G!
  7. Bought this 80brat for parts for 79brat(Pepe) found out it was to good for just parts. Engine in box in cab on floor all parts there assembled fired right up ran stronger than Pepe, decided its (Pony).See ponys progress here http://thebratpen.com Now we are a wood hauling team, just wanted to share:rolleyes:.....................G

  9. yes lesser coinage should work, but when resale time comes you can point out that nickel when they try to talk you down:lol:, this board rocks:banana:.........G
  10. I also would say drivers door switch, don't replace, find the spot that it hits on the door and silicone a coin(nickels work good) to that spot, good to go, worked every time for me................G
  11. heres what I did, make the tool, take a socket, old one preferably, grind away all but a thickness of the slot in the brake piston on top and bottom, put socket/tool on ratchet and turn piston in, very easy and effective, no more broken needle nose and way faster:banana:, hope this helps.....G
  12. My 2cents, if the price is right for you and maintence records are important get it, as was already said it should go along way for you. Bajas are cool but BRATS rule:grin:.....................G
  13. Ok searchrd for but didn't see this one, 90 legacy wipers now only work on high, no int, no low, no spray and wipe. Also if I turn them off in midstroke they stop wearever they be:-\. Thinking switch replacement time, but just wondering if is simpler than that:). Thank goodness for high:banana:, any ideas anybody?.............G
  14. Welcome to the leagacy door lock tango:banana:, what has happend is the spring that returns the door handle to its home position is now resting on the door lock toggle, pushing it to the locked position any time you use the handle:-\. To fix you'll have to pull the door apart and remove the handle/lock and reach inside it with a paper clip or wire and grab the spring, then use the wire to secure the spring away from the lock toggle:eek:. Sounds worse than it is really, getting the door apart is more of a PIA. Just think of it as a safety option you didn't pay for:lol:. Hope this helps...G
  15. Where oh where do we find distributors for our 84 brats. who knows these things, mine is driving me krazy, starts one day:banana: not the next:mad: the shaft has some play and spark is erratic. Its a find from a 2wd wagon awhile ago, I had heard they have a better power curve??? Any how wheres the fix:confused:. THANKS!
  16. Found 90 legacy wagon for sale, 350.00, 146000, new rad, waterpump, very clean small dent on hood. Won't start after being worked on by " backyard mechanics", sounds like the tbelt is on incorrectly as it turns over like it only has compression on half the motor. All i'm after is the five speed, it would need trailerd to my place, good deal yay or nay
  17. Hello can you fix my car:confused: ? SUre wE cAn! Thanks alot.......... oK wE gOt eR aLL fIxEd tHaT iLL bE 500 pEsOs! Hey my cars not fixed! What needs fixed here is this repair shop! That being said it sounds like an idle air valve or temp sensor or vacume leak, that car with that low of mileage sould not have a serious/expensive problem. Sorry to hear about such a thing, you have come to the right place in this message board, stay tuned for the correct diagnosis and suggestions for a fix G.
  18. Not sure if this will help you out but,Anyone with a dead 90-94 legacy have their door lock die(as in just turns but does nothing). Well heres the deal, the arm at the end that does the work has broken off the tumbler, ya bummer. Its not all bad news, if you can find a junkyard replacement you "CAN" replace the tabs in the tumbler with your tabs. This is not an "EASY" thing so proceed with caution, just getting the lever out of the door is not fun (reinstalling is even less) but then it gets easier, after you have it out you get to tear into the tumbler, take it in the house and make yourself comfy. I should note here that it has to be the same side of the car, remove the broken tumbler from the lever, remove the jy tumbler form that lever. Lay them side by side and compare and plan, now take the broken 1 apart down to just the guts, put your key in and you'll see that the key makes all the little tabs line up flush with the housing. Still with me? O.K now tear the jy tumbler down to its guts, put your key in and you'll notice that some tabs don't line up flush, they might if so YAY. If they don't, pull out the key and you'll see that they spring out a little, what you need to do is swap out the ones that did not line up flush. I should note that I got a little confused for a time during this "operation"! O K back to the fun, the tabs can be pushed out from the side that they are fush with a small screwdriver, you need to change the ones that did not lay flush with the key in the tumbler, change those and check your key if they lay flush your good to test. Place the tumbler with your key back in the housing and give it a turn, should work, if not check it for flushness again, if its close your almost done. I had to do a small bit of filing on the tabs to get it just right. Now just reassemble the lever and get it back in the door(this part sucks) and reassemble the door and go get some tylenol and go take a nap! Hope this helps someone out. G
  19. Thanks to all who have posted, all good info. We are in the habit of finding a place where the road goes on a map and then going there in the legacy. Sometimes the GPS has roads that are barely there(a milion miles in the bush) and being prepared for most/all complications is what I try to be. Thanks again, this board is Most Excellent:popcorn: G.
  20. what will cause no run situation in a 90legacy? Now I don't mean catastrofic mechanical meltdown of major componates. My question is regarding engine sensors/controls, what would you all fix/check/replace to prevent that no run condition a million miles out in the bush:eek:
  21. as for your current car, how handy are you with tools? doing a clutch is fairly easy and just under 300$. as was allready mentioned 2200$ can go a long way with repairs to your car, just my 2sence g.
  22. O K everything said in this post happens to my 90 leg, but I will add that this only happens to it in the summer AFTER climbing to the top of some mountain at high load low speed lots of 1st gear logging road stuff. I make it a habit of checking coolant level before going down, if the level is high in expansion tank I pop the cap siphon the exess into a jug and pour it back into rad, go down hill with no problems. Radiator is just 1 year old. It does blow bubbles almost anytime I check but never really has a problem of overheating. I do suspect headgasket weakness but for the little bit of trouble I get from it I'll wait till its worse, or I just get really bored, been this way for 70,000 miles. g
  23. THIS BOARD ROCKS, with the knowledge and info tidbits found here and some manual dexderity and just a few GOOD tools we could fix any subee on the planet!!!
  24. If LH cam sprocket has to come off you need some way to hold the sprocket; the easiest I have found is the Subaru special tool but there are alternatives. Please forgive the hyjak, but its all good info! A question here, has anyone here on the board used the starter bump to break loose the crank AND cam bolts when doing cam seals g.
