  1. I'll have to do the same job soon (drip drip drip), my question is can this be done without a major brake bleeding job, burrr to cold at this time???
  2. ya gauge says 0, engine sounds fine, oil level O K, sending unit? wiring? dash needle? Can I check the dash needle by grounding wire at sending unit. Oh ya 86 wagon. Thanks all
  3. after a few times of my wipers doing that strange dance I'm convinced that the wiper motors on early legacys could double as a winch in extreme situations. On oue drive my pass wiper mangeled the drivers wiper. cool huh, NOT!!!
  4. they make good daytime running lights without add more hours to the dash lights, but you must remember to turn them off.............duh, oops!
  5. 79 brat, Pepe(our little mule) 80 brat, Pony(a blue pony, Carol Burnet skit) 84 brat, Huey(fuel pump noise sounds just like one overhead) 86 wagon, Rudolph ( maroon ,run run rudolph momas gotta make it to town) 90 legacy sedan, Shadowfax(show me the meaning of haste)
  6. just 2 cents here, leave the brakes alone on slick stuff as much as possible, look ahead and use the gears to slow down. non turning wheels are like sleds without steering, they can't change your direction. Parking lot practice is great advice, I beleive they are private property so the police shoudn't bug ya Have fun with it!!
  7. 45 minutes to change bearing! wow thats a good mechanic, keep him in your little black book for future jobs. of course thats an under warrenty repair where little or no money was involved????
  8. 2.2 interference engine, what genius thought that one up, just slap them and send them over to the honda drawing board!!
  9. The question is, is there such a beast, if so how rare is it and I want one!! NOW! Of course I don't have the money but dreaming is free?? Anyway just wondering.
  10. "I usually have very little burping to do." Just like a good little baby, thats our subbees
  11. Wow sometimes I come on the board and see my exact problem, for me its my 90 legacy and new les schwab tires I also had rear struts replaced and alinement done after 3 weeks of pulling I returned there to have everything checked out alinement was fine. They said it was radial tire steer and put the pulling tire on the back, then no more pull, but when rotation time came around woop there it was again, sucks. I have since put the puller on the opposite side of the car and that had a vast improvement............... I say get the tire dealer to take care of it, thats what I wish I'd done, or live with it for 40,50, 60K miles?
  12. best way to check for cracked heads is run the engine with the rad cap off if there cracked you will get instant pressure in the cooling system, even if its cold. thats what mine did and they were cracked, both, ouch!
  13. my 86 wagon had a stiff cluth from day one(bought used) then we acually had the clutch fork crack and had to tear it down to replace, used fork ten dollars. The cable is new the pressure plate checked out fine, flywheel fine, all checked out fine reassembled and there it was a stiff clutch just like before, so I'm thinking that the fork I have isn't giving the best leverage ratio or something like that. Been driving for over a year now without further problems besides a stong left leg. My 2cents and experience
  14. my 90 legacy has done this also and while I can't help with the resister ?? I have found that slapping the dash while its clicking usually gets it to stop and go to the position I have selected. I also never use the off button, just my 2cents
  15. buy it buy it buy it, the 2.2 subaru motor is one of their most bulletproof motors, if the rest of the car is sweet you'll fall in love with that car and gladly repair any and all needed stuff and be smilen all the while
  16. sounds like your torsion bars are also toast, shocks just control the springy action of the tbars, been running a log/gravel/garbage/misc. hauling 79 brat without shocks for years, but is still springy and on the bump stops only when loaded heavily
  17. my 79brat did that same exact thing swapped VR off my 80brat and wa la no problems on either one for the last 6months, go figure
  18. as for running with no p/s fluid in the pump, I've been doing just that for about 30K on an 86sw after a leaking system caused a smokeout everytime I shut it off. You can also just run some hose in a loop from input to output, by passing all the lower lines. Just my 2sents???
  19. and.................you can own 5 Subarus for the price of 1 of those other used cars, thats what I'm doing
  20. they make really cool, but kinda heavy wind chimes
  21. oh .....................so thats how you use seafoam???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. 1 person 1 chain 1 bottle jack, use the chain drapped over the pitching stopper braket as a cradle for the front of the trans, jack it up and adjust the chain to hold it, keep this up untill its inline with the engine, then just push the trans forward from the rear of the trans. Wa La crawl out from under the car and crow so the neigbors can wonder about you!
  23. I,ve got the weird ones on an 80 brat
