  1. Worse/Stupidest, bought a 150$ brat, engine in box on floor passenger side, put together engine, turned engine over from outside by reaching through the window, brat started on first spark, gearshift in reverse, driver door open, brat backs up catching door on driveway gate post wrapping the door around me pinning me to the front fender and stalls:eek:. Thank God it stalled and my arm was still attached, creamed the door and fender, oh well the engine ran great and still does:rolleyes:. Best, Replaced a 90legacy tranny in my driveway solo for 100$ and no troubles thanks to a member here, thanks Muggs..................G.
  2. O K got off work early, headed out into the snowy, freezing rain, got to the empty parking lot on the way home, cool only one set of tracks, pull in, 2nd gear in the legacy and the drifting begins, 4 or 5 big circles 1 or 2 figure 8s, wonder what the guy in the truck parked there thinks, oh well onto home. Get there and the wife was in the same lot in her legacy 2 minutes before me, the tracks were hers! go figure, wonder what the guy in the truck parked there thought? Happy driving all, BE SAFE!.....................G
  3. Man all these suggestions are great, "sadistic japanese engineer that thought using phillips would be a good idea and kick him in the nuts". Not having an impact I have used a cordless drill with the torque setting medium high, letting it ratchet on the screw for awhile, sometimes works somtime not....................G
  4. I drove mine an entire winter with the dash sort of apart till I was sure it was fixed. I also picked up a spare control at the jy and resoldered it ahead of time, spare parts are a gold mine............G
  5. SVX SVX SVX, so go get it and tell us all about it, I got mine in may WOW:banana::banana:................G
  6. Stick with your philosophy, it should serve you well. When people find a good honest mechanic they stick with them and refer them to others, at least I do...........G
  7. buttons may be working to engage ac comp on def/defheat mode which will turn on the fans, but not working to change air flow direction, thump the dash above control to see if you can get direction change if so then you'll need to pull control and resoder conectors, its only going to get worse! Sorry, been there done that............G
  8. O K heres a simple story of love, last night with the full moon shining down I went out pulled the cover off the SVX, there she was glimmering in the moonlight (pause here for dramatic effect). I hit the remote to unlock the charms of her interior, and yes she was cooperative:rolleyes:, slid into the leather Burrrr it was a bit cold but supple!(another pause). Put the key in an she came to life, backed outa the driveway and placed it in D away we went with smooth silky power, it was a bright night but when I turned her on oops, turned on the high beams wow there was no darkness! So into the night we drove and thats as simple as it gets, just love this car, oh ya my wife loves it too:lol:..........G
  9. starter bump, works for crank bolts, don't see why it wouldn't work for cams..........G
  10. Great deal for you, and for the Brat as you are one who can appreciate what it is. I'm guessing it will only get better the longer you have it, nice to see the pics:)............G
  11. O K Heres mine, 2 1st gen brats, swapped regulators, hot wired both fuel pumps, gotta love electrical gremlins all this just so we could go get some stinking firewood:mad:. 2 SVX's swapped both front seats, installed drivers visor, swapped power antennas, swapped both front brakes, installed alt pwer /stearing cover, put on 2 car covers, gotta keep those babes protected:lol:. 1st gen legacy, resealed oil pump/cam seals timing belt, now it needs front wheel bearing:-\, good thing its cold, oh well what else am I gona do? If it aint broke fix it till it is:horse:, not my quote but I like it.............G
  12. ???? as a new owner of an SVX 92 I am puzzeled by those numbers, reading up on it it seems they are 3600lbs and mine turns 2100rpm at 62mph, yes my TC is locking correctly, no offense intended, happy driving!!.................G
  13. O K heres what I would do, place your breaker bar with the socket on the crank bolt, lay the end of the bar against the panel next to the battery, bump your starter one time real quik. This has never not worked for me:banana:A word of caution, be sure to protect the radiator, you could also bungee the breaker bar in place or rap some padding around the bar, don't start the car:eek:, as far as the TDC issue I'm not sure about it, should not matter as TDC is piston/crank related not the pulley, hope this helps some................G
  14. Also check out the lower ball joints as when the are worn they will allow the wheel movement you described, if your gona fix it fix all the problems so you can drive with confidence...............G
  15. Get one and you'll fall in love with subarus for real, be prepared to spend money after the buy, as it will need something and it will be somewhat expensive, ton of money saving info on SVX world network.......G
  16. copied this from legacycentral bbs, hope it can help someone......G after finishing my rebuild months ago i found it to have some play and caused leaking there too. like you, i went to local junkyard to find a replacement. all the engines i found did NOT have any play. so i took the valve off, cam and gotta extension which i covered with a towel to pervert damage to the plug. i stuck it in through the vavle cover opening and just taped it out slowly. its been 6 months and still no leaks i would recommend getting a new one to be on the safe side tho. no sealant is applied.
  17. what is the deal with the drivers side cam seal rear, its a circular black plug looking thing with no bolts or fasteners, I have a leak there thats fairly serious. While at the jyard I tried removing one to learn it would not come off! ..........G, Sorry about that other post didn't know it would be on page 2. So on the drivers side head on the back side there is a black plug where the cam is/ends, there must be a seal there but how do you change/get to it, See above info. Again sorry for the confusion, no photos at this time.........G
  18. bumpity bump bump, any motor builders know what I'm talking bout:confused:

  22. why is it that these "auto parts stores" sell these parts that are obviously substandard and as 777 says POS. AS SUBARU LOVERS AND MECHANICS WE SHOULD RISE UP AND:mad:.................oh never mind I'm ranting, but we all feel the same about doing work or having it done then down the road have it done all over again:banana::horse:...........G
