  1. "On my '84 BRAT the fuel pump has started to sound like a helicopter thump thumping behind me. You can only hear it when you are stopped at a traffic light ". Thats exactly what mine does also been doing it for 2 years, the Brats name is therefor Huey:clap:
  2. to what rallyruss says, that strut on the top my be out of adjustment, thats what mine did after an engine reinstall, I was able to see the engine move around with the hood open and having the ebrake on let the clutch out a little in 1st gear. That stut stops the movement if properly adjusted.
  3. Josh those pictures are the best, you really do have your legacy documented well. We are truly greatfull:headbang:
  4. Subaru motors don't really have a redline since they are BULLET PROOF!!!
  5. Those wagons really make the plae look good, more than 1 Sub is allways a good thing, good score!
  6. That mileage is just a start for that car, if the price if right tell him to go for it these cars a tough, dependable, nice to drive and easy to work on should you need to!! :D
  7. till something really obvious goes wrong then you'll know exactly whats broken? just my .02:eek:
  8. I think it comes in through the wiper grill area on ea81's, theres some baffeling ducts so you don't get water????!!!!
  9. run it with the fuel pump disconnected till it ran out of fuel, change the oil, pull each spark plug, shoot some WD-40 in the holes put the plugs back in. pull the engine, wrap plastic around the intake, stuff some rags in the exhaust and set it somewhere safe, oh ya plug up the coolant intake and outlets. But chances are you'll never need it cause you have that other awesum ej22:D
  10. with a little more power theses cars could go to the moon and back???!!!
  11. heres what I have done, befor you snap the head off the bolt If you have a cordless drill that has the clutch adjustment feature, set it at a low torque setting and use the befor mentioned back and forth method. cordless drills make for a poormans impact driver. Hope that helps
  12. just turning 187,000 miles on 90 legacy sedan, just broke in, going for 350,000:cool:
  13. old one i'd sure take that apart and check those contacts, good to have a spare onhand!!
  14. they say a 2wd disty has abetter advance than the 4wd version I have swapped a 2wd version into my 84, but its vacume advance is fubar so I don't think its helping me out so much:mad:
  15. pull the starter, pull the cover off the contact area, pull the plunger out, you will see the contacts, the one the batt cable hooks to is probly worn more than the other side. get a peice of copper stock about the same thickness as the contact, bend it, shape it, drill it, mount it, button every thing back up. Put it on the brat and should be good to go, just did all this on monday to my 84 brat, works like a new starter for NO money at all, just time. If that all sounds confusing you'll see what I mean when you pull it all apart, hope that helps:bday:
  16. the screw you need to turn is hiding behind the trim piece between the bumper and the headlight. hope this helps, thats been my situation in the past
  17. the heads in the starting post did indeed do just fine on that engine, bought new head gaskets and slapped it all together. all is well no coolent loss, no milkshake oil, car runs really well and dosen't overheat, so................ I think I'll just run it till something shakes loose.
  18. Thats what my 79 will be next year and yeseree its gona be in the classic cruise in CDA.Id So the aswer is 25 make a classic car, antique I'm not so sure:burnout:
  19. I'll be watching this topic as I also have this prob with a 79 brat. but when my fuse goes its all the lights. I have jumped the fuse with a wire with clips on each end and that does work without frying the stock wires, but it does get hot, sometimes melts the insulation, only when the wife drives??? Sorry I can't help but I share you problem.
  20. Thanks for the info, recovering isn't an option cause I only have the drivers seat, but I know where another drivers seat is/was. So I was thinking of swapping the position and recline levers to the outboard side, seatbelts are not an issue as they are mounted to the floor pan?
  21. swap seat positions. drivers to passenger or visa versa:argue:
  22. Mcbrat, I can feel your terror when your brat started without you in the cockpit, I had a simular experience in my driveway. But mines a manual tranny, Heres a tip don't start your brat from outside the drivers door with it in reverse with the door open next to a fence post !!! Tore out the gate at the end of the driveway and wrapped the drivers door around almost to the left headlight, fortunatly it stalled or it would be on the run by it self..............now thats a BRAT!!
