October 6, 200421 yr I bought a set of fender flares from a fellow board member (thanks mick!) and finally had a chance to get them clamped on temporarily so I could see how they looked. What do you think, pretty late 70s huh? Part of me love them and another part is not so sure.... While you're thinking about it, imagine when I do my XT-6 suspension swap and get the wheel track about 5 inches wider.... check it out.... http://usmb.net/gallery/album284 garner
October 6, 200421 yr Not my style. I Mainly don't like flares like that because they always seem to break and crack. Bill
October 6, 200421 yr I'm an off-roader but I like it. It seems to be the proper flare for the vintage of the vehicle. I think with some paint and some finish work it will look like a slick custom machine! Casting one vote for Keep it! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
October 6, 200421 yr I say with a bit of trimming to keep them at the same level as Body line, they will look Bad A**........ I say Keep them......
October 6, 200421 yr If you have an airdam for the brat, get some pics with that on. It might look awesome. If you don't like them, don't vut them up, save them since that is the only known set of flares we have. Maybe get a bunch of duplicates made, or I'm serious here, send the originals up to me and when I have time at school I can make some duplicates. As long as the originals remain unmolested.
October 6, 200421 yr I thnk you should demand your money back! But it's not my Brat; it's yours. Like em? Go for it!
October 7, 200421 yr i like them, dont know if i would leave the back part so low to the ground though they might get ripped off of you hit a big hole or something. but other wise i like the looks of them.
October 7, 200421 yr hey Galen, I have an airdam for a gen 1. Also thanks to Mick on that one:D I think those look saweet, and would look even better with a copy of the airdam I have:D
October 7, 200421 yr Well, I do have access to unlimited amounts of carbon fiber and fiberglass. These would be projects for school, but if I made two I could keep one for class and made a few for you gen 1 guys. Caboobaroo, if you get your dam up here, I can try to make a copy. PM me if you're interested.
October 7, 200421 yr Author Cheech and Chong!!! you hit the nail on the head Zapar!!! I bought them from McBrat. Apearently someone else was going to buy them but sort of fell off. I'm betting they might chime in here. I got them for a great price but should point out that there is a grease pencil $10.00 on them, I'm guessing they were picked up at a yardsale (score!!!) They are stamped on the inside "subaru 1979" but I don't know who made them...I couldn't find any pictures of Brats with them installed anywhere.... I do think they are worthy of making molds of (AdamNDJ, you out there?). Then one could produce sets that could be modified in any number of ways. I think they'd work great for lifted rigs too, although there are not a ton of lifted gen 1s. I'm torn between keeping them bone stock origional and modofying them a bit. I like the built in mud flaps but it's true, they are pretty damn low on my Brat. They do beg for some type of front spoiler and perhaps some side skirts and rear spoiler stuff. I've been looking at JY's for a while for body work kits off other cars that might be modified to fit the bill. thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming garner
October 7, 200421 yr Totally AWSOME! Anyone got picks of the airdamn on a Gen 1? I'm thinking between the flares and a damn it would look just right. Also consider a set SOLD! if someone is gonna make copies of these. (the flaps could go thoe;) )
October 7, 200421 yr you know what... they don't look good at all... you should give them to me... they would look much better on mine... whoooooo... they are sweet... keep them...
October 7, 200421 yr I think they would look good with some nice fatty tires on it to fill the area where they stick out. yeah if you add matching tires I say they will look sweet.
October 7, 200421 yr Throw a set of Enkeis on there, spaced out with some fat tires and paint everything flat black - it'll look awesome.
October 7, 200421 yr GO FOR IT! Those are so rad. rad being a word of choice!!! I love your scoop.. jealous! Definately keep them, you'll stand out like mad if you take to any shows or anything, i like the tire fill in idea, if budget allows, that would be awesome.
October 7, 200421 yr awesome:) . me thinks some trimming and adjustment is needed..btw. garner, give me a ring tonight.depending on what color you paint you car, i might say make the flares textured black:brow: . kindo of like the vw MKII and euro MKIII
October 7, 200421 yr i think they look frickin cool! if anyone does decide to copy these, and the air dam, i'd probably be down for a set (maybe more, since i'm getting a collection of gen 1's) -mike
October 7, 200421 yr Garner, I like them! However, I'd bet that just the wind resistance over time will cause the mud flap portion to crack off. There is just too much material hanging too far away from any support. They would be much stronger if you could trim the mudflap portion up a few inches. They will look much more proper when you stuff the XT6 Suspenion under it!!! Excellent work as usual Garner! Mike
October 7, 200421 yr Hey garner, if you can have maybe Adam or Galen (carfreak85) make some compies of those, I'd be willing to trade a set of those for a copy of my airdam. Its a Kamei (sp?) spoiler and I had it sittin in front of my wagon to see how it looks. It would look great with those flares. I agree, we need to figure out something for sideskirts because the MiniBrat will definatly need some once its on the road again! As for filling the flares out, I don't think I'll have aproblem with fat rubbers underneath it:D
October 7, 200421 yr The air dam + flares would be pretty cool indeed. Add that suspesion, and you will have one awesome ride come time to call it complete Garner.
October 7, 200421 yr well I have the airdam and I'm planning on getting a copy of the flares made from carbon fiber and a remake of my airdam in carbon fiber so I can keep the original nice:D I think it'll look good on your ride garner but you'll have some competition coming for the ultimate minitrucked Brat.......mwahahahahahahaha!!!!
