Essential thread for new users

Recommended Posts

I've decided that there should be a thread dedicated to informing new users of abbreviations and terms used in the forum

If a new user is unsure of a term, they can simlpy post their question here and have it anwsered, and it will be here for anybody to view.:banana:

I shall start the thread with......

N.A = Naturaly Aspirated

D/R = Dual Range Transmission

Disty = Distributer

WOT = Wide Open Throttle

Questions.....

What is long block and short block?

What is a RICE?

What is the thing againtst Hondas?

Well in most circumstances our definitions are the same.

But when it comes to slang, we are totally different.

A long block is the entire engine. Block, heads, intake and all the other accessories.

A short block is just the block, with none of the heads or other parts mentioned above.

Rice. This is what we call a car thats had alot of bling bling put on it that does nothing for the drivebility, handling or performance of the car.

Honda's? They generally deserve the Rice label :grin:

We like to stomp them in racing with our "Old Gen" Soobs against their big $$ cars. Altho there are some really hot performance Honda's (VTEC), most the time they just try and look fast.

Here are a few more abbr:

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

DP - Down Pipe for a Turbo'd Soob

WS - Wind Shield (or screen)

PB - Push Button (for 5spd single range)

great idea! i am mechanically challenged to say the least, but i love the board so i spend a great deal of time trying to figure out what the knowledgeable people are talking about. it takes forever it seems to figure out what some abbreviations are. two thumbs up from me! we need a glossary of terms!!

no you're right, I caught that and was gonna say something about it but someone else got to it before me! Here's a few more...

TB - Throttle Body

TMIC - Top Mount Intercooler

FMIC - Front mount Intercooler

IC - Intercooler

Rex - WRX

FT4WD - Full Time 4 Wheel Drive

PT4WD - Part Time 4 Wheel Drive

FWD - Front Wheel Drive

RWD - Rear Wheel Drive

Oh and "Rice" is a all show, no go....no matter what it is. Everything from a Toyota Paseo to a Honda to some WRX's. It don't matter what kind of car it is, its the person who owns it, even if they don't have the money for a new Civic, they'll find an old 80's Accord and rice it out.....
