January 2, 200818 yr Must be documented by a dash thermometer pic!!! Stories don't count. This morining my Subie was 13 as evidenced by the pic. The coldest I've ever seen it regester is 5 degrees. It was -18 last night but no pics!!! I'm sure 13 is not a winner. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=584&perpage=12&sort=3 So...how cold has your Subie been?
January 3, 200818 yr The green roo has seen -40 F or colder... started at like - 30 F, the black one.. i'm not really sure, because the temp meter said 'E' as in 'Error'
January 3, 200818 yr The Brighton started last year at -35C° (-31F°). It took no longer than usual but the unhappy noises the engine made during the first few minutes almost broke my heart.
January 3, 200818 yr 11/79 ea71 w/weber started at +8f in the sun, but refused to start at +10f in the shade the day before until after the battery was recharged from the previous attempt at starting it even had HEAT!!!!!!! '89 RX started fine but had NO HEAT at +4f
January 3, 200818 yr The BRAT got 11 tonight. I hate carb'd vehicles in cold weather, plus my fan is set to run all the time and the thing takes forever to warm up.
January 3, 200818 yr No dash thermometer but, yesterday was -26 (daytime high -6), day before -28, this morning -20 - it's not unusual - goes on through January and early February. I think my coldest start was -36, but I use an oil pan heater when its more than 10 below.
January 3, 200818 yr Well 69 subaru's don't have a dash thermometer:-\ It was 15 this morning and the 360 fired up on the first try.
January 3, 200818 yr Well 69 subaru's don't have a dash thermometer:-\ It was 15 this morning and the 360 fired up on the first try. The '00 Legaback didn't have a thermometer either, since it started out as a Brighton ... so you'll have to trust me. -27 deg F in Kalispell, MT. Started right up, but made some gawdawful complaint noises. The '87 GL parked right next to it started up fine too ... and sounded even worse! The '06 Outback is SO spoiled ... it's never spent a night outside of a heated garage, either us or the previous owner (who lives next door).
January 3, 200818 yr I drove to work this morning in 9 degrees F temps but the subie spends the night in the garage, where it's a cozy 50F. This makes Subie happy!
January 4, 200818 yr 9F when i left work tonight here is the pic on my compass pack http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=18764&cat=500
January 4, 200818 yr Author We have a new leader:banana: Now the real question will a Subie Dash termometer display negative temps? It's 9:13am and 44 degrees here...guess I won't find out anytime soon:Flame:
January 4, 200818 yr Was -10 the other morning, here's last nights low temp: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=18768&cat=500 Dave
January 6, 200818 yr -29, no pic (Thermometer was in the truck, but it was so cold the display wasn't showing anything, just blank) Truck started just fine cuz I had the block heater plugged in, but the Subaru took about 1/2 a can of starting fluid before it finally caught long enough to stay running!
January 9, 200818 yr 12f last Wednesday and it hadn't been driven in a week and a half. '99 OBW and it started right up. Although the noises it made the first few miles were the scariest thing I had ever heard.
January 9, 200818 yr The Brighton started last year at -35C° (-31F°). It took no longer than usual but the unhappy noises the engine made during the first few minutes almost broke my heart. I know. my 04 obw saw 5f the other day.She ran fine but the ticking noises the first 5 min are so sad.But are nothing compared to my mom's Rodeo(it sqeals realy loud).
January 24, 200818 yr last night, the brat started and it was -5 F today, right now, the legacy and -10F actual, windchill is -25F it took 8 miles to get enough heat to stay warm. power antenna was slow, and the blower controls were frozen. power steering was little tight due to cold fluids too.....wow. -10F actual, today.
January 26, 200818 yr Reminds me of a test i saw on tv a few months ago. Testing the airbus A380 - they flew it to the arctic circle and left it a few days to check how cold it would start. One of the engines oil pumps exploded on the first test, took 'em 3 days working at -30deg c to fix it. Second test performed perfect. Coldest my Subaru has been is a pathetic 13degreesf.
January 30, 200818 yr I'm a little disappointed. I went to start my car after work today, and it wouldn't, even after several tries. Month-old battery. It wasn't even below 0.
February 8, 200818 yr This winter in ND we saw -30 with -60 windchill. My 01 obs fired up with little reluctance. The cobalt and celica stayed home.
