December 28, 200817 yr Author nice 78 Front MudFlaps:banana: looks to be a good barn find. rare car for Iowa, and it goes to a good guy. Whats your boy say to it.
December 28, 200817 yr He wants to know if this can be his second car since his first will be the '86 Brat it's kind of weird to see him taller than a vehicle...
December 28, 200817 yr no, the AC does not work, but it's all there.... when I first looked at the dash, it seemed "wrong" until I realized it had AC....
December 28, 200817 yr Author inside is amazing. wow. and it has the rare AC. how many of these are around anymore, in any state? you were 1 day ahead of me sir mick
December 28, 200817 yr Didnt realize how much space the older AC systems took. Part of the glove box, knee room, what else?
December 29, 200817 yr LOL im calling the city on you. If you want you can store some of your crap at my new house. I want to pi** off my new neighbors.
December 29, 200817 yr LOL im calling the city on you. If you want you can store some of your crap at my new house. I want to pi** off my new neighbors. everything at my house runs and drives city can't do anything
December 29, 200817 yr In all seriousness, i thought eventhough run or drive they had a limit on how many you could have. Like 5 i think.
December 29, 200817 yr In all seriousness, i thought eventhough run or drive they had a limit on how many you could have. Like 5 i think. I don't think so... though if you SELL more than 5 in a year, you are required to get a dealers license..... I've had 8 vehicles at my house before... I only have 5 here right now....
December 29, 200817 yr Do you Really have those Limits? ... I Didn`t Knew... Here there are No Limits to -Almost- Anything, For Example: you can Buy / Sell \ Purchase all the Cars that you Can, and Have them wherever you may Want, without Problem (as Long as you don`t have Troubles with your Neighbors) but the Average of Cars per Family remains in Two...
December 29, 200817 yr Spec Wise: 1978 Brat GL (5/78 mfg date) 1.6l ea71 4 spd single range 4wd AC 111k miles came with spare ea71 and an extra intake manifold/carb. (later ea71 or ea81) I'm the 3rd owner. jump seats/frame are gone. vinyl seats in good shape. looks like one small split in seam of middle section of drivers seat. Roll bar (light bar) is made out of exhaust tubing. needs some exhaust work, and a tire leak fixed, but otherwise drives good. Floors are solid, as are all the suspension mount points and base of the strut towers. (I was really suprised at this being an Iowa car.) I have a "A" push bar I can put on it too.... It was only about a mile from my house.....
December 29, 200817 yr It'll be a nice Brat once you repair the body rust, at least it doesnt have structural rot. Gonna be a nice project for sure! -Bill
December 29, 200817 yr cool stuff. i don't know anything about brat's, what makes this a good find (besides being a brat obviously, i know they're hard to find)? In all seriousness, i thought eventhough run or drive they had a limit on how many you could have. Like 5 i think.sometimes there's separate limits for different "category" vehicles too. like only "one untagged vehicle per address"...etc.
December 29, 200817 yr cool stuff. i don't know anything about brat's, what makes this a good find (besides being a brat obviously, i know they're hard to find)? Well, this one has factory AC (rare), and the frame isnt rotted all to hell (rare in the Midwest) -Bill
December 29, 200817 yr no, the AC does not work, but it's all there.... when I first looked at the dash, it seemed "wrong" until I realized it had AC.... I agree with the 'wrong' comment... Boy the AC takes up at lot of space, half the glovebox and no parcel tray! Still it will be nice to have if you can get it going! AC was never an option on Gen 1s in Australia (other than makeshift retrofit underdash types) Gotta love 1978, in terms of Subaru
December 29, 200817 yr ok ive got to ask, how much did you get it for and how much are you getting rid of it for. Since its a gen1 brat i bet restored it would fetch a pretty penny. Say, now youve got something to put those gen1 bratrails youve been trying to get rid of.
December 29, 200817 yr looks like my '78 boy, looking at the body and seats, I never would have guessed it had 100k+ iowa miles! my '85 wagon just about broke in half at 130k iowa miles. but yours looks awesome. must be almost all summer miles.
December 29, 200817 yr Welcome back to the club! Looks good and well worth saving. Have fun with it. They are getting rarer and rarer! Todd
