  1. Hey, just so you know before you use this manual... All of the above info is from Subaru enthusisasts who are not experts trained by Fuji in the art of how to jimmy-rig your car with new fangled ways to improve it. Many things here in the manual were trial and error attempts by members. Sometimes the bugs are not worked out. We try our best to be honest in telling you *how to*, but that doesn't neccessarily mean we're 100% on the mark. Bad things may just happen if you try one of these experimental *fixes*. The owners and moderators of the Ultimate Subaru Message Board which contains the Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual will NOT be held liable for your actions/modifications.…

The biggest reason these lenses do this is the coating thats on them. Here's the fix and you won't regret it. Get yourself a sheet of 1500, 2000, and 3000 grit wet sandpaper. If you have a DA sander even easier, now get a bucket of soapy water, start with the 1500 and give it a very good circular motion sanding, work up to the 3,000 grit, give it some extra time with the 3,000. Now get some fine cut buffing compound and buff them out real well. Unlike the kits you buy or any other method, you won't be having to do this over and over constantly. Hope this helps. This works on any of your plastic lenses that have gone dull and crappy looking.

Clean Headlight Lenses for $1.00 I just cleaned the plastic headlights on my daughter’s Legacy and my Taurus and thought I would post this for what it’s worth: Buy a tube of toothpaste at the $ store. I bought 6 oz of Ultra brite for $1.00 Apply lots to a soft damp cloth and clean those lenses using a circular pattern and lots of elbow grease (free) Wipe off with a clean damp cloth. Repeat if necessary. Compare the first lens with the one you haven’t cleaned yet, I think you will be pleased with the results. I finished off with some Meguiar’s cleaning wax for extra sparkle and perhaps some protection. Not $1.00 and not really necessary, the toothpaste g…

ok, so the front end alignment on my 2" loyale has been horrible. this is due to banging it up, then lifting it, and changing tons of parts without aligning it ever. dont do that. ive been plagued with wheel hop (15s) and just all around not goodness in the steering/fwd department. this weekend i played around with youtube, i used string, tape measures... you name it. still scary today. tonight, i set upon my mission: not to pay to have my car aligned. my result will, im sure, prove to be less than perfect, but my steering wheel is now straight, and it stays that way on, or off the throttle. im bummed to have stumbled upon this only after i cooked my winterforces..…

The rear wipers on Subarus have a tendency to stop working after a while. The weird thing is that the fuse doesn't blow, the wiper just stops moving. I've performed this procedure on my 98 Outback as well as on my 03 Impreza. They're almost identical. To start, remove the plastic cover on the wiper arm where it comes out of the glass....(pop it off with a screwdriver). The small nut under it is a 10mm. Chances are it's a bit rusty so you might want to give it a shot of liquid wrench or something. Remove the round plastic cover and then remove the large nut. Now, from the inside, remove the interior panel to reveal the motor. Unplug the yellowish wire …

  11. I own my Subaru "BumbleBeast" since new, in 1985, but this Writeup is Not regarding that wagon, This is regarding the other yellow wagon I had for short time, which originally was purchased as a "Parts Car" and then was turned onto my Subaru Loyale 2.7 Turbo Project. It lasted some years, it was fun, but the turbo was never attempted to be installed, although I had the EA82T pistons on a shelf... the Overheating and other issues demotivated me; and now that 2.7 Wagon is Dead, was in a huge frontal crash, you can read the whole story in the Following web link: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/113641-could-this-be-the-end-of-my-27-project/ However, I…

Again, from the MRT (Australia) website. A truly fine and up-to-date article on what all those mysterious numbers on the sidewalls of your tires mean. A great read. http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html. Even talks about the dreaded 390 metric sizes.

I bought myself a nudge bar off of eBay, and it came with no instructions on how to install it. It was for my 2005 Subaru outback, but fits outback’s from 2004 and on...until they change the shape again I suppose. I searched and searched the net for a how to guide to install one for a n00b, and couldn't find one, so I decided to go at it by myself and from some little tips from other peoples. Not too bad for an I.T. person if I don't say so myself, and it helps to destroy all of those myths about I.T. guys that don't know how to do anything besides sit behind a computer...hehe SO HERE IT GOES: (Hopefully I’ve made enough sense for you, if not, let me know and …

Just a small repair, hardly earth shattering but useful... If you look closely, you can see the plastic on my corner marker pigtail socket has gotten brittle with age, vibration has broken off the locking tabs. It wouldn't stay in the lens housing any more. Using a very small sheet metal screw and piloting the hole with a #40 (3/32") gives just enough to hold it in place, it doesn't have to be tight - just snug. It doesn't have to come all the way out to change the bulb either, it supports it just enough to trap the socket in the hole. easy deal.

  16. I found this to work really well. First get some light/soft steel wool then really wet the window with glass cleaner. Next start rubbing the window with the wool in a circular motion. Re-wet the window if needed. Then when it starts feeling nice and smooth take some paper or a rag and wipe the window clean. And that will take any road tar, tree sap, paint fumes, etc off your windows. Keep in mind not to do this on the inside of any rear window that has defrost or that could damage the electic wire. Also to help keep gunk from sticking to your windows, try waxing them with a good paint wax. Just don't do the front other wise your wipers may not wipe your window to…

I guess this would go under Body Exterior for want of a better place. Anyway, I found a good cleaner to get rid of the brake pad dust that just clings to the alloy rims. It's not found in your auto parts store, but you'll find it at most supermarkets. It's called Zap Professional Tub and Tile cleaner (or any variation of that). Spray it on your wheels and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then hose it off. Really stubborn stuff you might have to wipe off with a wet cloth, but I just cleaned a really ugly set of alloy rims in less than 30 minutes with most of that time spent letting it soak in.

  18. Well... it all Started one Weekend, my Dad took the Yellow Wagon to do a Short trip, and he stopped at a Gas station for some gas, then at its food mart for some snacks. While he was sat on the car, correctly Parked at the Food Mart, talkin' by Cellphone, someone drunk driver did side hit the front bumper very Fast... and this is the Result: The Damage wasn't much bigger, due to the fact that the bumper was already reinforced with Fiberglass and some added metal assist points, but the car moved around a feet horizontally with the side hit. Well... dad just got a li'l Head's hit, but he's Fine, O.K. Now ... but my Yellow Wagon's front Bumper was in very …

  19. Here's my trick for turning those grey EA81 4WD bumpers black again, like they're supposed to be. I've done this on several cars and noticed that it usually works a little better if you clean the bumper with WD-40 really good a day or so before. You can either spray hWD right onto the bumper and wipe it in or spray some onto a rag and rub it on, but I've found that spraying it right on works better due to the texture of the bumper. My next secret weapon: Mother's Back To Black: Remeber to SHAKE WELL and the pour a little onto a terry cloth rag or an old towel, the directions on the bottle say a "quarter sized" drop, but you can feel free to use more, …

  22. For restoring non rubber "trim" (rack, mirrors, black column trim, wipers, restoring bumpers etc) I'll post a thread on how I did those. Sanding wet, the sandpaper won't clog. If lots of oxidation, the Scotchbrite can work well to get rid of a thicker oxidation layer, but you'll need to follow up with the finer grit or th…

Water on the inside of the lense? I found a great fix, that needs 24-48 hours to cure for life. And it lets out quite an odor until it is done. I was looking for rtv to do the job,and just knew it wasn't strong enough. They actually gain a heat pressure on the inside! I found some stuff called "plastic weld" at Advance auto. I am sure it is in many places. You don't even have to remove the light lense to attempt this fix. Mix it up in well ventilated area, and go across the top of the lights first..where metal meets the glass lense. The bottom with a small leak, normally doesn't allow water. The top does however. If it still leaks, after going across the top, a Q-tip wi…
