  1. It's a GL model '85 or earlier (rear seats were eliminated in '86 I believe). Not an '82 since the tail-light trim was different. I can't narrow it down any closer than that.
  2. Front wheel bearings are pretty easy. The HTKYSA book would tell you how to replace them I believe. Otherwise, ask here. Someone will help you. The odds are that the Brat's hesitation is a fuel filter which needs replacing. It's located next to the fuel pump underneath the car near the rear wheel. People tend to overlook it and when it starts to restrict fuel flow, it stalls the car or causes hesitation. Let it sit for 20 minutes and it will be okay again until the next time. Welcome to the Board.
  3. Amazing how often this question comes up. EJ22 was non-interference up to and including 1996. With the 1997 model year, it became an interference engine. With 218K, consider swapping it out with a lower mileage EJ22.
  4. It would be nice if they could hook up with WCSS11 on the Sunday after the show. There must be somewhere in Skamania county where someone could hold a RX.
  5. Amazing when I saw the original post date on this thread. Some people do use the search engine! Anyway (GD probably knows this), is Philbin still in business and rebuilding vacuum advance units for a reasonable price?
  6. I should be there in the afternoon. Happy B'day, Zap.
  7. I no longer use Fram filters but I did for many years (over 35) and really never had an issue with them. But then again, I change my oil/filter every 2500 miles. Leave it in there for any longer and you might have a different result.

  9. Yes. Check the USRM for tips on axle replacement.
  10. Max, thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for this to get back to you. I'm thinking of making it out in October but it's not definite yet. James will not make it out as far as I know since he'll likely not get the time off from school or work; also, he may not qualify for the National since he hasn't run any of the Challenge series. I've checked some of the videos posted on your group's website but all the Fountain ones are PPIR and not the Truck driving course. I'm really jealuous of all the venues you guys seem to have and the number of events you can field and the fact that you don't ever seem to use a water truck. Edit: Found the USTDS videos; I just didn't search deep enough. Regards to Ken also. I'm impressed with the amount of power that the EVOs manage to put to the ground.
  11. Yes, I personally prefer N/A since the turbo lag is one issue I don't have to deal with. Max was an exceptional driver and did very well in Hillsboro.
  12. Yea, he's one of the two I met while at the 2008 event in Oregon; I just couldn't remember the name.
  13. Thanks Matt for the info. I'll look into the website you mention.Any thoughts on how a N/A engine reacts to the 5500 foot elevation of Fountain, CO?
  14. Especially if you were in Hillsboro, OR last year for the National event. I know my son may still have an email availble, but I can't wait until he's back. Anyway, I'm considering running the Fountain, CO event in September and want to get some information how you guys run your events; i.e. rules, courses, etc. What's the weather like in September? Thanks.
  15. What size tires/rims are you running? 16" tires look pretty, but make the EJ18 into a sluggish car. 14" tires and the pickup is very different.

  19. First day went off without a hitch today with 10 runs for the field. A great course layout if you had the HP, skill, and guts to put it to the floor. A special thanks to all the volunteers who worked all afternoon in the blazing sun so the entrants wouldn't have to shag their own cones. Results are posted! http://www.oregonrally.com/files/NationalSatRX2009.pdf For those that are wondering, Runs 1,5 and 8 occurred after the water truck went by.
  20. Best of luck Shawn. I wish you and Joy the very best.
  21. I bought our '97 Impreza L wagon with 125K on it. It started burning oil shortly thereafter. I had a rebuilt engine put into it and now have 165K on it. I hope to keep it to 250K or more (that's when I usually sell my cars). But I don't have the east coast rust to contend with any longer. As a "junk yard dog" I see lots of early legacies and occasional Imprezas. If the car hasn't been in an accident, 200K to over 300K is not that rare. On the other hand, the cars I see with 150K or less all have significant body damage from some type of accident.
  22. The adjuster went to two dealer's (one Subaru and one Chevy) and asked "what would you put it on the lot for?" One said $3000 and the other $3900; the average plus taxes, etc came to around $3900. That's the number I used for the small claims court action on my son's '82 Brat which we won handily. I should have asked for more! I went back to State Farm on our "pristine" '84 Brat and asked for a re-evaluation. I've got paperwork from them putting the value at between $5000 and $6000. If anyone has a clean, rust-free, running gen2 Brat, it might be a fine investment.
