I didn't think you had to strip the steering wheel.I'm going to drop it down and rest it on the floor.Need be I'll disconnect it from the u-joint and pull it whole before taking all the plastic off. Personal opinion. But hey,you did it,I haven't,so YOU da man! I've had too may of these cars stipped down like your picture to not practically "feel" my way around this job. We WILL WIN !!!!!!! Heat by February!!!!!!! -

heating in my GL not working...
moosens replied to barel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
THere's ceramic coated "resistor pack" down by the heater fan.If the switch was only working on 3 or 4 then that's typically the cause. You'll see the ceramic has all worn off or is crumbling in a major way. If you get no switch action at all but can hear the vacuum when you push a button(Def.,Heat,BiLevel,A/C) then you want to check the relays under the dash on the far left(driver's side).THere's 4 of them, all the same but for different funtions. The heater fan relay on my car was the one on the far left with small blue and ?? wires going to it.You will find it easier if you take the fuse box down(no need to unplug, just remove the screws and let it hang).THen you can reach the relays. The ones with the thicker black wires are not the ones you want.Wish I could remember the colors of the wires but they are thinner for the fan. God luck, stay warm. -

Heartless-never mind the nay sayers.....we WILL triumph!!!!!! I've parted out way too many of these to let these guys scare me.Take my hand and we'll walk through the fire together.I'll be sure to assist you as best as I can.Keep the PM's coming as needed,or email. The connectors are all special fit to each other. You don't have to worry so much about that.Lable them if you're really not convinced of this. There's only one cable for the thermo(hot cold slider),and a vacuum hose for the selector(pushbuttons).Remove seats and center console for ease. One 10mm bolt on each end underside of dash.I think you need to take the fuse box down but I don't think you need to disconnect it,just let that hang. Some relays, etc may be Philips screwed to the side....not thinking clear this early in the New Year's day one. THere's no way I'm letting my sweet touring wagon go just because it needs a core swap.Sorry guys,I don't give up that easy on something that has otherwise been very good to me. -
Can you loan them to me?Got my address?I'll cover shipping.Ise USPS Media Mail for books...cheap!!! I really need them fast if possible.I might be able to put it off untill next week if needed. You guys know me.I'm not going to forget or rip off your manuals. This is as important as it gets. One of the last chances at NOS in quantity.Send them quickly and it'll really mean a lot to all of us.

Has anybody done a disc setup on a Gen 1 wagon?
moosens replied to 75skunkaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
'75 4wD wagon-historic value-if that means anything to you.Personally I'd keep it stock and find a beater to make a vintage woods toy out of.Nice wagon. -
Talked to a person today who said he(as a dealer) had 5 or six of these. I know the advertisement in 1977-8 had stated that Subaru was giving away 50 of these, one in each state. I didn't ask this guy why he had more but when I mentioned the ad. he said there were more, you just had to buy more of them if you wanted them. Any idea what the total number produced was? BTW Mick, uhhh, you aren't going to believe what I have lined up.Hint:I think only my son can fit in it,has devilish decal on it,and looks like my '78 Brat.... It'll be much easier to let the shell go now.

I need anything with numbers and descriptions for above.I have a loft full of parts to go through at a place I've formed a relationship with. The owner is counting on me to help. I may have a local source for some of these.Copies are fine or if you can lend them to me I'll cover shipping. This will benefit any 70 or 80's owner as parts will be posted for sale.Still not sure how all this will be handled. Some may go in lots while other pieces are sold seperately.A quick look over showed a good amount of much needed parts like rubber hoses, fuel filters,headlights,trim,etc,etc.....it gets even better. Thanks for any help. You will be duly rewarded.

A professor I know says he has over 1,500,000 miles on one of his d/r EA81 wagons.Only on its second engine. And over 450,000 on his hatch with all original components.
-
Been done, not a problem with a rolling engine lift at all.Good to have 2 men there for that. When you lift it the weight makes it tip down anyways so it isn't really a problem.Take the radiator out first and take the hood off.

I think what he's getting at is the same dilema I share with him.I have Witte's 5-lug stuff on the floor of my shop with no car attatched to them. It's the halfshaft with the hub, etc.(Eric,I've had the rears ready for months now, getting to the fronts now that I have a pipe wrench). I bought a big pipe wrench that I hope I can hold the shaft with as I jump on the breaker bar with the 36mm socket. Use heat on the nut too.Propane torch it for a minute or so and then try it right away. I went to the machine shop across from me and put it in several vices and not one could hold the shaft to be able to get the castle nut loose.

I'd try making a seperate postabout this subject if I were you. Good luck.I'd help you if I had a hatch shaft.
