Line-X Rhino Liner to rear shock towers?
moosens replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe Bubble for the sitters. You know what I’m talking about. Drive into it , zip it over , and the low voltage fan fills the bubble and keeps the car fairly well in northern garages. Hoping your garage was poured with a moisture barrier. Sorry GD but it’s CT here and about as salty and corrosive as it gets. My 1978 4WD wagon was solid car for three decades due to Zeibart PROPERLY INSTALLED , holes , wand , and caution to drainage. Small plastic drains inserted in doors and in general the folks who did my car did it correct. The last of those cars on the road around the northeast - probably 1999-2002 maybe there were a couple besides mine. My car is still going with a new owner. Has rust now after neglecting the Zeibart as it aged and chipped away in a few spots. If I wasn’t raising a family and had a garage that car would still be mine and still be 98% solid or better. My uncle just passed away last year. His 1969 Ford truck is still here. He sprayed it with light oil every year. They’re asking around $7k for it. Not worth that much , but it’s still here , runs and drives , stops too !

Yikes ! 2003 something big happened
moosens replied to moosens's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks again ! Yes those angry leprechaun bastids. Had zero time today buy as I was on my way out I stopped and gave a quick look only. Should post pics. There’s some funky looking - I want to say it’s makeshift hack - and not factory - item attached to the stub axle. How I didn’t see this must have been the $450 factor. Must have temporarily blinded me. But I’m an admitted rookie on these. Do the inner joints look way different on a 2000-2004? I’m prehistoric. Saw some moisture underside on the ground , but that also maybe water from the rain yesterday. What I saw was just a few drops. Rest of the underside looked good at quick glance. Starts and engine runs fine. Ok Happy New Year you fellow knuckle busters !!! See you next year.

Yikes ! 2003 something big happened
moosens replied to moosens's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHappy New Year Mr. Bennie! Will investigate soon. Maybe not even tomorrow. Have a guest up from NC buying old school parts. 1970’s coolness. Was up at storage giving him a preview for tomorrow when we go deep into the vault. Dropped him at the hotel and took a hard left which I think exasperated the already weak CV. The highway entrance was just a few feet away and it’s an uphill ramp so I gave it the usual gas. Got about a half mile after leveling off the pedal and staying in the right lane casually , then bang clang metal noise spinning like a jumble kind of noise. Sort of like metal hitting the ground but when I got out - nothing ! Looked like it always does. Keep in mind this car was just bought and registered on the 24th. $460 , not a big deal. Worse case it’s got great parts all over. But being a Subaru I’m expecting I’ll have the engine out , do the clutch , reseal all around , timing and pumps , the usual whole deal. Just hoping I haven’t wasted the gearbox. Smelled gear oil for sure just as the tow guy let it down to rest. Got in and started it. Let the clutch out and you can hear a whirring noise vrr vrr vrr type of noise. It’ll sort of attempt to grab and move but at that point it’s like a failed clutch. But since I was just reading that post last week or less about the rear axle issue and it feeling like a clutch , I thought I’d see what you guys think. I’m pathetically immersed in old school , like stuck in the 70’s and 90’s 2.2 early series 90-94. Last hydraulic clutch I had was on a motorcycle. And I did the clutch on my friend’s 67 Lotus Elan. And assisted with another local guy fellow Elan owner on his 64 I think. Also never had a clutch make such noises. Happened so quick and my bad left ear I couldn’t really pinpoint where it all came from. Axle would be too easy. And why would the tranny feel like total mush now ? I guess it’s been a while since I had any clutch issues. I can’t recall having the tranny feel like this just because of the clutch. Of course I mean the shifter and that it just doesn’t feel like it’s engaging anything and it’s sloppy in all directions. So apparently it’s in a gear since it wants to tug ever so slightly. Ok sorry to ramble. Need to sleep soon. Check back if I can’t sleep or tomorrow. Thanks all ! Happy New Year !!!!

Yikes ! 2003 something big happened
Tune in tomorrow for the conclusion. At highway speed in the right lane something went bang clank and stuff. Tranny feels like mush. After it happened I pulled over , waiting on AAA now. Started it back up and put it in gear. It felt like a bad clutch. Beforehand I could hear noise when releasing the clutch that I didn’t like. Still drove it because my brain thinks of old school reliability. Guess I should have kept it parked until I could investigate. The noise sounded like metal. Lots of it. Spinning around like cans in a clothes drier or something. Jackass should have been here already. See you all back soon. Back to my reliable 2.2’s !!

Coolant temp sensor EA82T
Notorious on those EA82T’s for corrosion and failure. I might still have a new one.

How Many Members of USMB?
It’s way past it’s peak (the USMB) due to the face dook trend which has made good men into .... ok I’ll stop there. Many folks who I electronically rubbed elbows with HERE are now gone and have found FB a place they feel comfy. I think it blows. Not the time for debate and there’s good aspects of it as well as the B/S. Just too much B/S. So as far as membership goes I don’t know what we topped off at. Used to see statistics like that on here somewhere. Bottom of the page. But we’ve changed providers and whatnot. Maybe there’ll be a resurgence one day. Who knows. Features like adding pictures sure help. Took me TWENTY YEARS but I finally got out West and met some of the really great folks who have made this board a great place to hang out for over two decades now. The WCSS is a cool event which the USMB members had a lot to do with. Thats a little bit of yappin’ about the USMB. Maybe one one of those guys like Legacy777 will show up and give details.

Drivers Side TB Snapped Tonight
One little thing I used to do and still do on EJ’s is to use a couple of Pony clamps or whatever you have that will hold the belt on the “sprocket” while you release the tensioner so nothing moves at that time but the tensioner and the slack taken up. Miles is a top dog. Almost got to meet him when in Chicago but he’s an hour and a half north in beer town. Also , I live in New England and do pretty much what you do. But I am a FWD fan or fanatic at this point. I still insist that FWD is fine for 98% of the year. Great advice , and you’re experienced already. You’ll be fine. Enjoy !

2003 Legacy Q’s my latest daily
moosens replied to moosens's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXABS light also on , but I think with minimal research in the archives or just back a page or two , there’s my solution. Can’t tell you guys enough that I am typically a good 10-15 years behind from the current models. Last car I bought to use as a daily was a 1992 in 2007. A 15 year old with around 119k. That car is still here , body not any much worse than back then. This green goblin is already 17 and holding 274k (just turned). Body fairly solid. Original owners , garage kept , receipts up the wazzoo. The not so funny part is he had TWO teenaged sons use this car and it looks great. I have ONE son who as a teenager destroyed TWO Subarus. Life.

2003 Legacy Q’s my latest daily
moosens replied to moosens's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHistorically that’s an issue - corroded sockets. I’ll be sure to go over all of them. Geez , life still has 1157’s involved after all these decades ?

2003 Legacy Q’s my latest daily
moosens replied to moosens's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks all !! You guys are great as usual. Should have time over the next week to get to know it more intimately. You know what I mean ... The clicking goes to the normal rate for the turn signal when engaged , then when not engaged it goes back to a more rapid clicking. Maybe double speed of the normal turn clicker. Ill check that too, Larry , thanks.

2003 Legacy Q’s my latest daily
$460 special. That’s right $460 Pardon my lack of searching at this time. 273k on it , drips a little oil onto the exhaust. Otherwise I’m just about to learn about this car as I just now took possession of it. First , the steering column tilt feature I enjoy when getting in and out. But this car has a lever that seems locked and I don’t want to break it trying to force it. Anybody else experience this ? Second , the noise maker for the signal lights keeps clicking all the time the car is running. Solution ? I have not yet looked up under the dashboard. Third , when I take off in first gear there is usually a thumping for a few seconds. My thought was (thinking older Subies) that there’s a strap mount at the U-joint split in the prop shaft and one side is becoming loose - seen this. I don’t even know if this is a two piece prop shaft , just assuming. Any clue on the noise and is my prop shaft a two piece ? Little lazy and it’s cold so I’m not getting under it today. Much to do. Will have more Q’s soon. Thanks for any help. Yes i I have the alloys too. Previous owner had these because he wanted to try to use the alloys on newer Subarus. The alloys will be back on soon or maybe after winter.

Trying to repair/restore my new 1982 GL Wagon!
Right off the bat “subarupartsforyou” won’t have anything anywhere near that old regardless of the use of the year “1984” I live near them and trust me you won’t score there. Likely same for many others. But don’t give up.

Yes I know it’s a Weber. You asked for options and that was my reply. Hitachi Then I asked a question you haven’t answered.

1979 Subaru DL starting issue
Likely the brush(es) on the alternator have worn and not sending a signal to the voltage regulator which will power the fuel pump. Factory manual suggests changing out both at the same time - alternator and v/r. Take the pump off or in place just reverse polarity with jumper cables off the battery for just a second to clear it out and verify it powers up. BTW you can use those jumper wires to run the vehicle. The pump will stop enough for driving when running but best to unhook when parked. Many of us have had to do this. Good luck with it. I have new fuel filters - factory Subaru and other parts New Old Stock and great used too. “cashingmystuffin” on eBay , that’s me.

Starter for 1980 ea71
Yes they are. Longer snout on the automatic. You need one ? I have a reman Manual that I won’t need. Send me a message thru the board if interested. Probably have more than one but the one that’s out and handy has an ND tag on it with the numbers 028000 297 and the tag is green and silver.

Looking for an engine
Which year ea71 is it ? Internal water passage or duct across the top deck ? I have an ATK rebuild in crate I bought a while back and likely won’t need. Do as you need to but there’s typically still folks looking for EA71 pistons. Of course you’ll have to draw that line on wether or not it’s worth your time. Me , I’d salvage and stock what I could if you’re carrying forward with another EA71. Likely your pushrods can clean up too. Occasionally there’s a demand for those too. Good luck with it. I’m in CT and my stuff is in Milford right off the highway (I-95). Long drive but I have a LOT of stuff and I’m cleaning house. Check my stuff on eBay if you go there - cashingmystuffin - that’s me. Lots of New Old Stock and great used too. Help me clean house!!
