please pull from the XT shift handle with push button, and as much of the wiring harness with it as possible, and the two roll pins the 4spd 3rd gear issue is that the sychros go bad and one day you can no longer shift if you are still confused about the axles, let me know and I can scan in the application table that lists the various combinations Thanks!

huge increase in performance it quit working on the way to work at work pulled it in shop and cleaned, lubed, and adjusted after all done, it worked great!! especially for a 29 year old motor!!

-1! 11/79 ea71 gen 2 body wagon with 4x4 single range and slippy clutch due to rear seal leak is a very capable machine with 15" pugs and winterforce tires when in deep snow, if got stuck going forward, reverse always took care of the issue muddy dirt road was also not an issue, just let it rev around 4k+, that's where the power is anyways no logging roads around here only times when it was nice to have low range 1. 4spd d/r locked up in 3rd, start in low then drive in high 2. driving on snowy roads with slow traffic, stay in gear and change ranges as needed 3. turbo d/r full time 4wd use it as a 10 spd, always start in low, also great for while stuck in stop and go traffic, DC area rush hour sucks!

or do what I did remove motor remove flat cover over gearbox remove round cover over motor clean and lube motor and gearbox reassemble reinstall ADD ground wire from gearbox cover screw to strut tower or other suitable ground point

ea82 3 door, also came in ea71 flavor ea71 and ea81 hatch can have ea82 added this is just another example of why it's bad to designate a body by the engine it has for example: my '86 gl-10 turbo wagon has a happy ea81 3 door and hatch are two different critters it is also not proper to refer to 3 door as rx, as the rx was also a sedan \ end rant please show the back side
