this sucks again
I went there and had a rim straightrened. Cost 100 bucks. His ways are very primitive and didin't true up the rim very well. I was dissatisfied and wouldn't recommend going there.

82 brat-front axle questions
The play you describe is normal. It allows for suspension travel. You should be able to get the same "play" out of the rears if you check them. Nothing to worry about.

Midwest 2 Status/Recovery updated:(and how to send $)
Sorry to hear a little mud kept you from driving it home Shawn. Happy to hear you got some mud on it. Now you just need a lift and some tires and a welded diff. Then you can get back there and make short work of that little mud hole you guys were playing in. hehe I'm glad everyone is in one piece and everything is getting resolved.

Buggy pics
That thing looks cooler and cooler every time you post photos Glenn. Can't wait to see it on the trail. Hopefully before WCSS6. But definitely at WCSS6 right?

Seattle Area Shops or Mechanics?
Honesty and knowledge are two different things. Just because the guy at the Dealership will level with you about an O2 sensor doesn't mean he knows jack about putting dual carbs on an ea81. Betting he's never seen the set-up. Brian is your answer. He IS the Guru. Ask him.

Midwest 2 Status/Recovery updated:(and how to send $)
WOW. Not a whole lot of ribbing I can give you guys. I can say the only more desolate place I've ever been to is the Bonneville Salt Flats. You folks need to move to where the trees are. What Shawn said about the autos seeming to do better than the dual ranges. . . First gear low is no good for that stuff, hi range baby. The only piece of recovery gear I can think of that would help is one of those "anchors" that digs itself into the dirt and acts as something to hook your rope/chain/strap to. Still might wanna get one to get you guys out. I think that between me and Ken, we have about 200 feet of "reach out and grab ya", maybe a little more. The cool thing about this is the bonding that's gonna come of it. All of you who attended and especially the ones who have to wait it out a little will have a pretty gnarly experience in common. So who's holding the hat?

If there's a fund for the "towed", I'll contribute. Who's holding the cap?

Midwest Subaru Meet-April 24th and 25th starts 24th at 11AM
You know that without pics, none of us are gonna believe any of it. LOL The stories sound like it was nuts!!! NOBODY shot video of it??? I'm SOOOO jealous you guys got to get into some crazy stuff like that. Are any of you guys locked/welded in the rear? I'm telling you, it makes the lsd seem like an open diff. . . I've come to believe. Was anybody wearing swampers? Come-alongs and winches? Jacks, shovels? You know the Hatch Patrol (probably mostly me) is gonna give the group some smack for not bringing recovery stuff. God I gotta see what got so many Soobs stuck!! EZ PICS! PICS! PICS! PICS! video??

Good news for RallyX in Seattle area
Sounds good. But if it's gonna be at the Pacific Raceways again, I'll pass. My imp got a huge gash from a big rock that goes down both passenger doors, not to mention a million smaller ones. Just too rough for the daily driver. . .

Being like Cartman (Vehicle Weight)
We stopped at a scale on the way to the Rubicon, the unhatched weighed in at 3800. Figure it gained more weight as we added a bunch of supplies when we got there. My hatch is bone dry light. I keep only the absolute essentials, probably carry less than 100 extra lbs of stuff including my chain and comealong and tools. My spare doesn't always ride with me, but that probably adds about 60-70 more lbs. In all, with my skinny rump roast, I'd say it weighs in at about 2600 or so. I'd like to weigh it to know for certain. Oh yeah, I have the roll bar that adds about another 60 lbs. . . But I substitute finesse for big heavy "road warrior" bumpers too. Stock bumpers on an 86 hatch are good and weightless.

Brat Checklist
With my swampers and a weber, I get 25mpg on the freeway, 23 or so average mpg. . . That's been standard for all 5 Webers I've bought and installed. I think Ken gets about the same. The Unhatched (Peppy the Little Brown Mule) got 29 mpg all the way to the Rubicon last Summer pushing 31's thru the transfer case. . . Must be the way the Weber is hooked up or something. ________________________________________________________ You've got a pretty good list of stuff there Scooby. I say your order should go like this: 2,1,3,7,5,4,8,6 Do one at a time, it will take time and money, so plug away. After these, then worry about other stuff. You're gonna need time behind teh wheel learning to 4X a Soob too.

Lifed Brat in Shelton, WA...anybody here?
Was probably his wife. We lifted it cuz he had a hard time getting into it as well as retrieving stuff from the bed w/canopy. His father had been the original owner, died at age 90something and left it to Rollie, his son. 85 with about 60k on it. Wasn't ever gonna see offroad. He works as a real estate agent. This the one? (one with the canopy, the other was mine)

200 dollar score. East Coasters might not wanna see this. . .
Jeez. I never said best deal ever. My best deal was probably the perfectly running 92 legacy I was given a year ago or so. I traded it for my current hatch + got 500 bucks. So has anybody every given any of you a sweet running, 100% rust free, 95% straight body hatch back + 500 bucks? Thought not. . . EZ (and Boz, I wouldn't pay 86 bucks for an 86 cougar)

Lifed Brat in Shelton, WA...anybody here?
Forgot all about that one. Doesn't he still owe us a 100 bucks for lifting it for him? That was the only case I've ever agreed with lifting a brat not to 4X it. . .

Wheel bearing time bomb: will it go off?
They won't necessarily seize. They will go out randomly. I've had two go on me. The first was as I was leaving Evans Creek in my old green hatch, had to drive 75 miles at 25 mph as it went CLACKITY BANG CLACKITY BANG! the whole way. Never did seize, but I expected it to and so gripped the steering wheel like crazy. (Arms hurt bigtime the next day) The ones on my current hatch just went. Drove it for almost a year with the slop you describe and the loud grinding noise. Drove it to Portland at least 2 times, several hard core 4X trips. Finally went about 2 blocks from my house. Again, didn't seize, just that loud clacking and banging all the way home. You got AAA? EZ

The NorthWest Washington Types
If you wanna meet a bunch of cool Soob people from Mt Vernon, take exit 226? (Headed North) and stay on the East side of I-5. There's a road running parrallel to I-5, along abunch of corn fields. Take Johnson road. Just after the little bridge, turn left and follow the gravel road for about 100yards. You'll be at the Martin's, you'll know your there cuz there's about 40 Soobs in various states strewn about the yard. Ask for Todd or Jake, tell 'em who sent you, they'll take good care of you. Probable have that tailgate you're looking for. You can probably find Johnson Road pretty easy on a map of Mt V. Betting this guy you just met knows them, vice/versa.

Lifed Brat in Shelton, WA...anybody here?
Do you ever post anything relevant Caleb? Or just nonsense to hike up your post count? ____________ If you see it again, put a note on it Mark. That's how me and Ken got the Hatch Patrol on its feet, by pestering every offroad looking Soob we came across.

200 dollar score. East Coasters might not wanna see this. . .
Brian That gen one wagon totally reminds me of my first Soob. Definitely my most durable. I picked it up 10 years ago for $300. Had 99k on it, everything worked, even the A/C. Still ran when I abandoned it 9 months later. But I was waiting for Boz to speak up with his good deal. I know us Westerners get good stuff like this all the time.

Vollunteer needed
I thought you'd dropped off. I had thought to make a big map and directions to be printed on the back. If you think the smaller one is readable, cool. I printed out a few of your rough drafts, the only thing missing would be contact info and the web site addy. Ken@: qman4x4@comcast.net Eric@: chairotsu@earthlink.net http://members.dsl-only.net/~sawlid/wcss6/ Thanks Jeff. EZ

It's for my buddy Wonder, he needs a car to drive for a few months till he can buy something newer. I'll get it back after that, would love to lift it.
