I want to buy a subaru!!!
I know it's a little farther than 500 miles, but I'll be selling my lifted 86 hatch in about a month or so. It doesnt' have any rust except couple small spots of surface rust. . . It would definitely make the trip to CO.

C'mon Amanda or Ken! Let's see those pics!
We took 3 of our offroad soobs to Evans Creek and did a couple of fairly difficult trails. I wanna brag about how cool Ken's Brat is with his t-case and solid rear, but want pics to prove. He let me drive it down and back up one of the hill climbs, whooboy, those are some low gears! But my hatch went everywhere it did, no dents no overheating, no problems.

Dual Range Question
81-82 dual ranges have the same gearing. The change came in 83. The fourth gear is longer 83+, I'm not too sure about any difference in 3rd. I've had several of both to compare.

You've found the right place. You should be able to find out most of what you'll need to know about your car from here. Welcome aboard. And good luck with your car. Can we see photos?

Lifting the Brumby
The fastest one was 4 of us with hand tools and a PK/BYB 4/3. We had Ken's brat back on the ground in about an hour and a half. For your first time, expect it to take a weekend.

82 BRAT finally lifted!
Go Flo Go! You got less than 3 weeks to get it road worthy so you can represent the lifted ones at WCSS6. !!

The classes for WCSS6
Here you go. Originally Posted by subaru_styles so,,,,,,, any word on calsses yet? There will be a "Best Street" a "Best Off Road" and a "Best in Show" I think we came up with 21 trophies all said and done. as an example. ea81 will include brats, wagons, hatches, sedans, coupes, etc. as in body style, not engine or tire size. A modded street brat with an ej22 will be in the same class as a lifted monster wagon or a bone stock hatch, whether FWD or 4WD. There won't be a "modded" class. or a stock class. We decided this for a couple of reasons. one, funds. We (Ken and I) are having to pay for the trophies out of pocket, they got expensive quick. The second reason dates back to WCSS3. There was a "brat class", and a stock DL won over the others. The third reason being to keep away from arguements as to what "class" each car goes into. This will also make each class have more cars. The prizes will be coveted more this way as well. No more "My xt took second cuz there were only 2 xts" Next year we'll have more funds to come up with more trophies. This year we went with quality over quantity. You guys will dig the trohies, we picked cool ones.

How unsafe is it for a Brat to tow another Brat?
What you said about how expensive it is. . . You could try taking a train to Portland, and then renting a truck and dolly to tow it back. Including gas and train fare, it should be under 200 bucks. I know money is hard to come by, but I think the cost of towing 2 broken brats will cost a lot more. I would advise against trying to tow a brat with a brat from OR to Seattle, there's too many hills in between, and too many places where traffic gets thick. ie: Olympia, Tacoma/Ft Lewis, Federal Way and Seattle. For the record, Ken towed both a ea81 wagon and a ea82 wagon for a few miles with his brat and they did just fine. I think you're doing the right thing by coming here and asking advice rather than trying something crazy like that without checking into it first. Good luck with getting it here. Do you know anybody with an old truck who can help you? There may just be one or two board members who own a truck and dolly who may help you for the price of gas and lunch. . . Who knows. As for AAA+, Ed is right. I've used mine 3 times to save other board members who's cars broke far away from home. It's a real lifesaver.

Installing 3'' byb lift in my 86 rusty wagon? problems?
Yeb, I agree. If the bolts will come out, then then there's not enough rust under there to keep you from lifting it. Rusty rockers are no big deal, same with wheel wells. I get the impression that unrusty soobs are pretty hard to come by in Minnesota. Go for it!

hello to everyone
Back to the future eh? Good to meet you. You have a month to get it well enough to follow the caravan to WCSS6. See you there.

seattle 2 Wcss6 caravan
We're gonna get a bunch of compatible two-ways. Cheap motorolas or something. (a whole different post I'll stat up when I'm back in Seattle in about a week) We also have cell phones, they work the best. As for more details about a caravan with Ken and I, I will also start up a thread about that with about 2 weeks to go till the meet. We'd love to have you along Scoob, more help the better.

seattle 2 Wcss6 caravan
Usually I just bitch about it when folks are late for our meets. This time I'm just plain leaving on time. Ken and I just talked, looks like we'll leave the Tacoma area bout 6 or so. We wanna be among the first to get to the park to be ready for early arrivals. So, if you do beat us there, don't set up camp, jsut wait in the parking lot for us to get there to get things going. See you there!

Suspension travel is much improved(daylight pics)
Dumbest question asked on the usmb this year. . . ie: "Why did you put a solid axle on your brat?" Looks awesome Ken, just like we knew it would!

seattle 2 Wcss6 caravan
You can go with QMan and me. I'll be driving my hatch most likely, he'll be in his motorhome too. 60-65 won't be a big deal.

will 27x9.5x15 on unlifted BRAT?
When I see you locals at EC, I'll show you how to beat back the wheel wells to get better turning. My 27/9.50s don't rub at all, lock to lock.

seattle 2 Wcss6 caravan
We'll all camp at the smae area. There's plenty of room, don't worry.

History of the "Modified Subaru"
I started playing in a stolen gen one wagon in '83. Yards, alleys, local woods, anywhere we could. We couldn't break anything on it except the clutch. I've been hooked ever since.

Yes!!! Now I Can Offroad!!!
I never said beat the hell out of it. I did say offroad. I use the heck out of my soobs, and rarely dent or smash them. I've gone thru plenty of crazy places without "beating up" them up. (knock on wood) I've never broken a rear axle, and only a couple of front ones. My cluthes have always worked good enough to get me home.Even a gen 1 would be able to have some fun up there at EC without hurting it. I knew someone would ask that. The caption is a little mis-worded. I had a little over 4 grand into that one when it was finished building it. You guys all know me, I like to buy em, build em, wheel em, and sell em. I would'nt get any money back if I put any dents in that one. As it was, I only sold that one for 3500. And like Rob said, you can see by the photo that that one did indeed make it offroad before I sold it. It went thru the Hobbit Trail at Reiters for a test run. I have video of it stuck in water half way up its doors. The same hole G.D. got his wagon stuck in. As well as some rock climbing. Anybody whos' seen Part 4 of my "Offroad Subaru Fun" video series can testify.

Yes!!! Now I Can Offroad!!!
Bring it anyways. There's some fun stuff you can play around on without messing up your unlifted rig. You can always ride along with someone else. I like your attitude!! But, I know of several places you won't be able to follow the lifted ones.
