2.7l loyale monster
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to SubaruJawn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, it is; and Weight is a Problem, but not in the way you Think: suspension. The Problem is with the Brakes Handling... Now it has Poor Brakin´ under Higher Speeds, or Emergency Brakin´ Well, I have two Loyale Wagons, the White one is with the Stock EA82 but Weberized, and the Yellow one has the ER27 Engine from a Crashed XT6. The project to Swap the ER27 on a loyale took too much work... Effort... Patience... and Inventive, you need to modify some of things... Our project started in Early 2002... dad Purchased the second Loyale wagon, first with the Idea of use it as a "Parts Car" for the White one, but then the Project to Swap the ER27 engine Begun with the Crash of a Friend´s Xt6. The Project is still in progress. Let me Explain: Some things are still Waitin´ to be Solved -or Completely Solved- as the Radiator, the Standard one doesn`t fit, so we first made some sort of a small pair of radiators interconnected each other, with an electric fan, located at one side of the engine, but it overheats easily... Then the extra weight is a problem with brakes... I have the project of upgrade brakes with some bigger ones, and to ad a turbo (For more info about it, search in: www.xt6.net ) but I don`t believe the turbo can be fitted yet, due to the engine`s overheatin` trouble... unless I solve it. If I can solve it, maybe puttin` a Radiator "Under" the engine as other member suggested, I will install a turbo on the ER27, for it I need to put in the Pistons of the EA82T, and other "minorities" (As the intake Manyfold... etc) ... But that part of the Project cost too much money, and I don`t have enough... ...for now. I begun grabbin´ some of the Things I´ll need for that, as the EA82T Pistons, and other things, it Still Remains as an unfinished Project. So, unfinished yet but it Runs!, My Dad uses it at our Home for Short Trips. Since now I´m Workin´ far away home, I bring with me the EA82 wagon, and I use it as my Daily Driver, so the yellow one as my "Weekend Warrior" You can see mages of ´em at my Photo Gallery, or my Website. I think a EJ Conversion is a Good Idea too... Lightweight and Powerfull... I Think to buy -maybe Someday- a Brat, and Swap in it an EJ Engine! ... but that, is Another Story... Good Luck! -
Hi Again! I Have the Idea (Maybe the Project) of Change all the Backlight Bulbs of at least one of my Wagon´s Dashboard, to H.I.D White L.E.D.s (High Intensity Discharge Light Emission Diodes) Have you seen those? They look like the White Ones on the Base-right of this Image: They´re so Bright!, not like Common Leds, so that´s Why they´re Called H.I.D. L.E.D.s. I have two in the Map lights at the Roof, but They Aren´t Extremly Bright, I think that if a Common Bulb do 5 Watts Output, those L.E.D.s may do only 7 Watts Output, but I´m not Sure... Why Change the Backlights? ... Well, both my Wagons got the Yellowish Backlight (Found on the early EA82´s), instead of the Greener backlight Found on the Newer ones, so, it looks Like it is Just the Direct Light of the Bulb, with no Tint at All... and the Dashboard is so Pretty for that illumination. :-\ This is how they Look: So, the seven Questions are: Did a Brighter Backlight illumination be Harmful? I think I can use the Dimmer lights on L.E.D.s, isn´t it? is Possible to Change all the Bulbs for those L.E.D.s? Are all of those Backlight Bulbs, the Same? What do you Think About? Have anyone Tried somethin´ like That before? Do you think the Dashboard will look Nicer with Brighter White Lights, or I will just make it look Uglier? Shall I use other color than White? Finally, I must say that those H.I.D. White L.E.D.s, Looks like a Standard Neon tube´s Light, Plain White, but Near to the Blue... Any opinions / Suggestions \ Ideas will be Wellcome! Thanx! ► Edited to add Tags, due to the New USMB's system.

Converting my Loyale Wagon to Electric?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, You´re Right! I was thinkin´ too in the Tyre Wear done by No Differential Action... and Another things like the Control to make Both Motors to Spin in the Same Rpm´s at the Same Time, etc. But I didn´t wanted to Write a "Never Endin´ Post" Everythin´ can be Solved, I think... -
Converting my Loyale Wagon to Electric?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No Man, I don´t Think so... Electric Motor Bolted Right to the Transfer Case? I´m a Little Lost on Translation with this, so Let me Ask: You mean to Bolt it to the Gearbox? Well... I have consider that Idea since I was in High School (here Called the "Bachilleráto") Doin´ a Science Fair Project, that was a Mini Wooden Pick´up with electric motor, than can carry 100 Lbs (42.3 or so Kgs) of Weight... I noticed two things: How much weight directly wear the Batteries with the Effort, and how much Rpm´s can do an Electric Motor. Then I consider to do a "Real Car" Conversion to Electric... So, I was Thinkin´ About to put Two AC Motors of 42 Hp Each, and Each one connected Directly to their Side´s Wheel. So, the car will be Fwd, and no Gearbox is Needed, ´cos a AC 42 Hp Electric Motor do Around 18,000 RPM´s... Also to go Reverse, with some sort of Switch, you just "Reverse the way AC Flows" and the car go Reverse, with some sort of Limitator to the Rpm´s in Reverse way. Also, I think that Both 42 AC motors, can go Side by Side in the Engine Bay of a Loyale, but the Axles Shall be changed for compatibility, to anothers that brings Enough distance (Shorter) an there Starts the Question of the Part that Holds the Axle & the Motor... It needs some Invention / Adaptation there... Why Bolt Directly the AC Motor to the Wheels? Well... 18,000 Rpm´s means A Lot of Speed, I´m not Sure, but consider Two Things: Gasoline Engines can do an Average Around 6,000 Rpm´s Safely, and got their peak Torque at an Average of Around 3,000 Rpm´s; and Electric Motors can do Around 18,000 Without the loose of Any Torque, so you can go Faster without gearbox. Maybe you can Reach above of 75 Mph. Another Question to Consider is that AC Motors are Industrial motors, more Easy to Obtain, so Parts for ´em, So I think that Project can be Done, with Lots of Inventive, Time, Efforts, and Money. Good Luck! -

29 inch tires ? od ?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... Me Too! Also, Why Don´t you Refer to the Size as is Detailed in the Tyre? For Example, I have 205/60 R-13 on my Yellow Wagon, and 195/65 R-13 on my White Wagon. The numbers Means: (as Far as I Know) 205= the size from one Side to the Other Side, startin´ to Measure from edge to Edge (Where Tyre touches the Rim) 60= is the Amount in % taken from that Cypher (205) to make the Tyre´s Walls. In this case, is 60% of the 205. R= Rim (Some Brands Add: "S" or "Z" Before the R, meanin´ sometimes "S" = Sport, and "Z" = High Speed. 13= You Know... ... 13" So, the Question is: Why you say 29, 28.5, etc, instead of... 205/70 ZR-14 for Example? -
