  1. love it in a subaru diff. and won't go with anything else in the rear of a subaru diff! i know i was one of those newer 4wheelers you were talking about. but i've been around 4xing for the last 10 years. just driving the last 5 of it... and the last 3 in a subaru.
  2. all i can say is this is sweet and awesome!! and this has inspired me! above and beyond! can't wait to see it... in action of course ... good luck Semper Fi!!
  3. 1980 wagon. info below and hundreds of pics linked below. just wait a year and see what happens to it next.....
  4. UPDATE last page Hey piping in to say i'm leaving tomorrow. i'll be on ship set to sail thursday 'O' dark thirty. Heading towards iraq. destination in iraq is still unknown but we are going land based somewhere with our grunts and the helo's. that's all i really know. But farewell to all. and especially, ken, eric, tex, subafly and the rest of the HP and WCS (not trying to forget anyone). i'll be back and the new design/plan for the car... after hanging around several groups of fellow fourwheelers and gathering a lot of information. i'll have a stronger subaru when i get back. just trying to work out a few design problems. and it'll be in work asap when i get back. i'll be on whenever i can get on a computer... i got mess duty the first 45 days. Semper Fi!!
  5. i have a couple of recommendations. one don't go to big. didn't read the whole post. but with stock gearing your best bet is really a 27" or smaller. my strong reccomendation is for the super swamper ssr 27". but not cheap. otherwise the coopers discoverer sst. the other reccomendation i have is check out my web site. under modifications it has the tire debate for true offroading tires for subaru. not the prissy street offroaders tires. otherwise good luck! Semper Fi!
  6. due to military obligations. i will not be coming home for the run in may or june. i will need to have a rain check till i get back from deployment. there's a lot happening. all leave has been cancelled for the marines in my squadron. ken, eric, tex. give me a call if you want to know more. other than that, that's all i can say here. Semper Fi!!
  7. thank you!! not sure how you knew. probably on the board some where... that one is for sure. gonna pick up a bottle of tequila for some margaritas. and i got almost a 5th of jack daniels. so i'll be celebrating!! really not too much though. it's been a really crappy birthday so far. it's slowly getting better. they screwed me at work and my leave is being screwed with. my brother changed his wedding date. to when i'm in the states. but... i'm supposed to be on another boat workup.... i'm trying to get out of it. so i can see my bro get married. if that happens then i can't drive and i must fly. cause i have like 16 hours to get there......................... and so much more has gone wrong. but i'll be making it better sooner!
  8. i run with out mine. i've broken less front cv's since i did that. don't know why but i have. offroad performance is phenomenal.you lift tires less and are more likely to keep traction to the ground. which is a big plus when offroading. just my 2 cents, remove and toss....
  9. the extra mods for the 4 inch lift. are redoing the shift linkage. not a real big deal or project and a little more BFH in the strut wells. look up on my web site there's an offroad tire article. cooper makes a good discovere sst like eric said and also a little smaller all terrain tire too. check them out.
  10. sweet!! can't wait till i can see it when i get back. i'd tell you about my next project i'm planning but.... it'd be banned from this board. it's not an offroader, but it's not a subaru well i guess one of the 2 projects i'll be starting isn't subaru the other 1 is a subaru so i hope that makes up for it.... i'm going out tomorrow to work on lil' roo!! wish me luck.
  11. i live in yuma, az for now. it's not my home but where i reside till my contract is up. but in washington my dad live's in gig harbor, and my mom lives in marysville. marysville is closer and i spend most of my time up near there. i might if i have the gas money go down there and start from there. but it's an hour extra drive. so i'm not sure if i'm starting from down there. you probably could caravan with qman from boney lake. which is 30 minutes from gig harbor to his house. and if i have time which i'm not sure maybe we could squeeze a tahuya run in belfair too.but as for the reiter run june is looking the best. a little warmer for the cold blooded living in az. i've got most of the parts to fix my car. the tool supposedly arrived at the post office. i've got to get it from them on monday. then i'll start fixing her tomorrow. i'm sorry that you can't make it turbone. i was looking forward to wheeling with you again. i hope you get well soon. don't sell the hatch! how ya gonna go wheeling when i come back??
  12. if you go early may before the 11th and you go to ocitillo wells i might be able to show up and make an appearance. and do some wheeling with you. otherwise good luck! and wish i could. there's a trail out of the backside area of that hungry valley i want to try in the near future! i know a stocker won't make it but... i'll gather people up to go try it. let me know if you can make out in early may to ocitillo wells or big bear area and if i get my car fixed i can go!! i'd love to be 4xing with soobs again!! it's been awhile.
  13. well i guess i'll have to go in june then tex. cause that i don't want to interfere with you and your girl. plus i want to see you guys there. i don't have much room to flex but it'd be in the first couple weekends of june. i'll hopefully have a definate date in the next few weeks to month. yes eric i still have your #. i'm stuck on a boat right now off the coast of california. thank god we have internet for now. someone was saying we might lose it when we actually deploy. so i don't have my cell right now. but i'll give you a call when i hit land and go back to yuma for a week. should be in a few days. one of the major reasons why i was thinking of changing to june... was more time to fix my car up. still waiting on snap-on to deliver my tool to fix my diffs. the biggest reason is i ran into a friend from highschool here on the boat. he joined the corp a few months before i did. and is stationed with intel for the grunts in camp pendleton. and we wanted to try to take leave around the same time so we could go partying and drinking... before we go deploy. definately interesting when you bump into people in the chow hall on a boat, that you never thought you'd see again...
  14. hey let me know how all this diff stuff goes. if it takes the beating i might need to have you help get that design to go for my car. lower gearing and better strength. that's what i'm trying to go for right now. not to mention air lockers... cause i was going to get 33" tall tires for my car but then i kept breaking all these stubs. so till i get a good way to beef it up and maybe even lower the gearing more. i'm staying with my 31" tires... but when i upgrade drivetrain the 33's will come. i need them here for all the rock crawling in AZ. i was just kidding about the no drivetrain. from what i've seen of your work you do it right the first time. and i know it's not an overnight procedure. trust me. but it looks good. i was just teasing you cause for the longest time i saw your brat with no drivetrain. that's what that smilie was for. keep me informed. on this axle stuff.
  15. another update... it might be pushed back to early june. right before i leave. they pushed the deploy date back 3 days. so i might be able to get more time in june. let me know what you all think...
  16. hmmm.... don't know if anyone said it... but where's the drivetrain??? you like them pics with no drivetrain...
  17. little roo. cause she was so little when she started. which just so happened to be the name of a winnie the pooh character, so the little kangaroo is my car's mascott.
  18. the only problem with gearing them really nutty low. is that the diff stubs break. i'm looking into fixing that problem as we speak. and if the options i'm looking at for beefing up the drive train fall through... then i have a friend that i might get hooked up with some yota axles... but i'm trying to stay subaru style as much as possible for now. hey overkiller i lost your ph#. i'll try to look it up on old posts. but send me a line. so when i get back from this deployment we can go hit the woodpecker trail. i might try to make it to pheonix in may before i deploy for good. maybe you could show me some of the trails.
  19. well let me know all who is really interested. i'm going to go ahead and start fixing my car when i get back off this boat work up. guess what i have email here. and slow slow internet connection. if enough people are going to show up i'll still be driving home to go wheeling. if there isn't going to be enough then i'm flying and just going to have a bbq. for this trip you don't need to have a majorly modified car. for isabel you do. but before the rest of us start that run. we can pair you of and show you a few other trails and open areas to play and test your car's ability's. semper fi
  20. yeah it's been awhile since i've been up that trail. i don't think i've taken my suby up there yet. i know subafly has been up there with derik and all those guys in there jeeps. there's also a bunch more trails in that area that we need to explore, and i'm really sure none of you have been on. my brother was telling me of another new trail he rode out there on his bike. and said would be sweet! but we have a lot to explor up there. i'll be available on the 8th and 9th of may. i'm thinking ofgoing up there and partying the night before then going wheeling for the weekend. or just go up friday night. and stay up there. don't know for sure so let me know what's up!
  21. i have about 12 + inches clearance at the diffs with 31" tires and about 14 or so at the tcase. as for axle mods... you might want to look into upgrading them in some fashion. i'm looking into a way to upgrade. well actually i have a way. but will talk about that at a later time.
  22. cough cough... can't wait to get home from deployment! i got some trails to run!!
  23. john's awesome! his work is very reliable. i've tortured the new lift, dual t-case and motor in my car. nothing in regards of what he did has broken. only other parts i decided not to upgrade. which are now being upgraded. as for the procrastinating part that was mentioned earlier. some times custom fab stuff is late from the deadline. but realize that he has kids he has to watch and are constantly interupting him. he also does do other things. but the quality of the work when he is done is exceptional! and he is a very respectable and honest man. whom i have a lot of respect for. i spent a few days in that garage working with him at the end stages of my lift. it was hectic with everything going on.
  24. 1 rear stub axle, 1 front and grenaded the whole outer cup on the front axle. in one day of wheeling. then shortly after that broke another stubb. like the next day. it hasn't drove since..... still getting tools and parts to repair it.
