You read my mind! Looks good. Are you going to put in a tail gate or weld the hatch shut?

L.A. Gen 1 BRAT?
Ran across a tan Gen 1 BRAT off of Haskel the other day. Left them a note to join here. Looked pretty good whose ever it was.

lighter flywheel...opinions?
newsoobdude replied to mwills's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlso forgot to mention the fact that the CEL will become your annoying best friend due to the computer not able to keep up with the quicker rpm gain and loss. A lot of people just disconnect the light bulb but I just got myself a scanner and clear the codes and still have a functioning CEL.

My d/r ej has arrived
newsoobdude replied to Subaru_dude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXKeep us posted as I am going to be doing this eventually. Ever check out Scorpion and see if they still have their gear reduction set for the EJ D/r?

99 legacy sus manual transmission swap
+2 on the matching diff. If I remember correctly my 98 with 5mt is a 4.11:1. What are going to be using the car for as you might just consider going with the 88/89 D/r 5spd and a 3.9 diff if you are going to be going wheeling a lot and want a low range. I cannot wait til I can afford the Down Under D/r instead of going the 89 D/r swap as I am already a manual trans and don't want to change out my rear diff and hydraulic clutch as well.

lighter flywheel...opinions?
newsoobdude replied to mwills's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had an ACT Streetlite (or however it's spelled) in my 98 Outback with 5mt and had it in for 30,000 miles. Made it fun but not trying to leave while stopped on a hill (which is my terrain now) or trying to crawl up steep slopes so I'm going back to my stocker. Not looking forward to the performance loss but looking forward to not stalling as much or burning my clutch so, yay. Not to mention the fact that my older friend who would borrow the car sometimes won't be roasting my clutch or complaining about not being able to leave from a stop at below 1500rpms .

Another project added and 1st for this forum
I wont forget about ya'll with the Pushbar don't worry, and as a side note, I have 2 now as the Brushguard I was getting turned out to be another Pushbar :mad. And as I will be lifting this one I'll be selling both more than likely at the end of summer. I'll post it here in the classified section with a note in here.

98 OBS Junkyard Fix (Heavy on the pics)
I wonder how hard it would be to find some (more than one) and get the mount shipped over:confused: As for the D/r, I'd find one of the EJ AWD D/r trannies and go from there unless the solid axle goes through (I likie!!! I likie!!!) I'm eventually going to put a lift and EJ D/r into my 98 Legacy Outback.

Best bang for buck Subaru...
Living on a dirt road with wash board and pot holes bigger than basketballs, it depends on you. My 98 Outback is wonderful in the wetness and all, but I wish it had a Low Range for it. My 86 is slower but even more fun (for me atleast) because it's a rusty POS that I can beat. I have yet to get it stuck and the Low is rather nice for steep inclines and declines and has gotten me farther than my Single Range. If the Outback had a Dual Range I'd be set.

That I am debating on. I have a "spare" D/r 5spd that I'm unsure as to what I will use it for. Only reason I'd keep the 4spd would be the fact that I want it more or less OEM pre '85, but the 5spd is growing more and more. Brian, I still have that a bar off my Gen 2 and I am willing to sell if you are still interested. Still need to finish that one up .

1998 Wagon spoiler vs dust
I got myself a used factory spoiler for my Outback a year ago and still have not mounted it. I have moved to a dirt road and my back window is constantly dusty. Is the OEM spoiler any good at deflecting the dust off the rear window or am I better of with the OEM dust deflector?

Been on the board for a while but don't get to visit as often anymore but wanted to show pics of my newest treasure I found. Unsure of the year as of now as I have not gotten it open yet nor have I gotten any info from the old owner. Will be bringing it home soon and will update then. Anyone interested in the topper? Not planning on keeping it and is located zip 95245/6/9 (I live at the corner of 3 towns ). Plans include EA81 with Torquer Cam + SPFI, 4spd D/r, 4 inch lift, OEM Brush guard and High roll bar. Now for pics- This will make 7 Subies and 2 BRATs

Lifting a 2000 Legacy sedan
Sux about your ride. Pics can be done through photobucket or other pic hosting site. As for the rear, I've been told other than custom at the moment, the Outback rear suspension assembly (blocks) and/ or King springs is your only bet.

Lifting a 2000 Legacy sedan
Scorpion or King Springs- both from the land down under- sell lift springs for your ride, only down side is it's a 2 inch lift. Maybe doing the springs with Outback struts will work for the 4 inch mark.

'98 Legacy Outback Cold Air Intake
newsoobdude replied to subaruzane's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have one on my 98 Outback with a 5spd and noticed a big difference in power above 3k. Originally the car would fall on it's face at 3k and above but with a ebay intake for the 99 Impreza 2.5 cut to fit and the snorkus in the fenderwell removed I can now pull with no falling all the way to red line. Cost was $50 compared to the Weapon R intake that is 5x as much. Check out sl-i.net for more info.

EA Parts Questions
Yeah, lots of fun trying to order stuff from the auto parts stores. I'll order them this week with the Fel Pro # and hope for the best. Now to find freeze plugs.........

EA Parts Questions
Looking to get some new EA81 and 82 exhaust manifold gaskets but all the local parts houses carry and can find are the ones between the head and the spacer. There used to be a catalog that showed all the various gaskets for each exhaust system but that catalog has since vanished. Don't really want to go to Rock Auto or Auto Parts Warehouse w/o a part # because their descriptions don't mean squat. Anyone got the FelPro or similarly available # for cross referencing? Also, anyone know where to get new freeze plugs for the EAs? The stealership is a little pricey for my friend and was wondering where ya'll get yours.

Ea81 springs in outback struts= lift
Are we getting pics of the finished car as well?

Building ea81. for 6'' lifted hatch.
Definitely go with the Delta cams . Did you go with EA71 pistons for higher compression? SPFI or a Weber would be a good induction set up. Do a port cleanup on the heads and intake, add some exhaust and you should be good to go.
