Nice BRAT!!! Eventually I'd like to have mine looking like that. Don't recall, but how'd you manage a free BRAT? I thought I scored with mine by trading an EA82T drive train with air shocks, minus rear disks.

DR Shifter linkage pics?
newsoobdude replied to Jurrel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Since I don't have any pics of the linkages I can at best describe what it should look like. On the drivers side of the trans up near the bell housing is the lever for the hi/ low part of the diff. That will go back about mid way to the rod that goes through the trans the 4wd activation point) on the top at ruffly the back part. Then you have the "Z" part that is slid on and bolted to have the rod now on the passenger side. Then you have the rod that bolts to that with the sideways pin in the end (if I remember correctly) for the 4wd lever to attach. You should look to make the hi/ low actuate separate from the 4wd if you want. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66608 is a section but unfortunately s'ko's pics are down (s'ko? s'ko?). Not to hard to do but unfortunately I gave you my pieces before I could finish the mock up but will be getting more and I don't have pics of the correct way to do it. But long story short it should go something like _____i------. Good luck -

1998 Outback. Have stock lighting and found that if I adjust the light higher up (1 turn) I have better visibility. I live in BFE, CA out in the sticks and streetlights are non existent and the elevation changes in the road make it fun at night while driving 40+ w/o the POS factory fogs which I personally use to highlight what's beside the road. Will be replacing someday all lighting with either EDM and PIAA lighting (both fog and driving) or just the fog and driving with PIAA. I drive with my regular h.lights unless driving the canyons at night at any speed then debate between h.and fogs or brights.

$5k!?!?!? What ever he's smokin I want some!!! I'd offer him LESS but &*%^&, I'd rather have a Wagon over coupe or Sedan ANY day . -
cannott remember where or who but someone was asking about a hood scoop for the EA82 series and someone found one on e bay that looked pretty good on the EA82s. I'd keep the scoop, just make it larger and maybe some NASA ducts like the 71 Mach1 Mustangs for venting. Glad to hear everything is going well with the RX and sorry I haven't called ya back work has been busy and hours changed and all the good stuff but I'll hit ya up sometime.

All that means is you can park it anywhere and not have to worry about door dings nor wheeling in tight spots

Anyone in southeast Wyoming
newsoobdude replied to CaptEditor's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Lived out there for a while and enjoyed the end of 9th street in my friends Jeep and Vida Voo (sp?) in my room mates lowered (less than cig pack between lowest spot and ground) Squareback. Wish I was their too a degree but wish you luck. Might look into the WyoTech fools (no offense ANYONE) to see if anyone would like to be surprised by a lowly Subie and what it could accomplish. Good luck and enjoy good ol' Lamamie and just an FYI; if they look 18+ they ain't, if they don't they are:) ) -

I don't recall who but Google is a good friend for it but someone make a "body" lift out of a standard cherry picker to pick off the frame (granted not needed on a Subie but will work for trailer loading). Price is decent so that is one option. Another is a DIY dolly out of wood that is X x Y dimensions to fit on any trailer. -

Transmissions in Sacramento?
newsoobdude replied to Jurrel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can hit up my friend who has more parts and stuff for EAs than we know what to do with and see what he wants for a tranny if ya want. Zip is 95665, about 45 miles from Rancho Cordova. PM me if you'd be interested. -
Unfortunately ANOTHER problem with that (besides the ref ripping apart and possible fines) is the fact that one now has to have 3/4 or more of a tank of gas for a gas tank test as well as part of the SMOG ordeal. daeron- You'd be surprised at what people think and do regarding CA and old cars. I live in a SMALL (33k) county and there is a law stating one is not allowed to have ANY non running cars (with or without glass) on their OWN property, whether in site from the road or behind a 10' fence. A LOT of people don't like the old cars because "they don't look nice, are gross polluters and are unsafe". Most of the old car communities have the $$$ to have an old car as a toy, not a daily driver and therefore we are able to still keep our old cars as they are NOT being driven daily. Those that do drive the old cars that are driven daily don't have the $$$ to do much and are largely ignored by the CA Government who wants ALL old cars 25 years or older OFF the roads. I don't know about you but a LOT of my friends own older cars that are cleaner than the new beasts put out from the factory and better in the mpg too. SEMA is our friend and without them, few old cars would exist in CA and those that did would have to pass smog as well (YES even the old Model T Ford:eek: ). I know that one has been brought up plenty of times over the years and THANKFULLY it's 1976? and newer ONLY that get tested but unfortunately it's not the rolling 25 years like it was for a small time and no longer 1974 and newer.

PUG wheels are installed!!!

Bed liner if your planning on hauling things and even if your not to protect from the rust bug. -
My friend is storing my 84 Wagon that I picked up from Cyberbackpacker and has been using it around his property occasionally to do things. As he tells me his son brought up his 72 Nova on a car trailer behind his older Mazda p/u but could not get up the private road to the house. The road is steep but not too bad. So, my friend grabs Ol Blue and drives down to meet him and see what can be done. Mind you Ol Blue likes to run hot. My friend hooks up the Mazda WITH trailer to the back of Ol Blue and starts to pull them up the hill. Ol Blue's radiator didn't like it too much and split apart . So my friend walks up to his place and grabs a spare radiator he had and proceeds to replace it. Plugged everything back up and Ol Blue pulled the Mazda and trailer with Nova up the rest of the way with no problems . Wish I had been there to see it and witness the power of Ol Blue's 275k mile EA81 pulling both vehicles up the road.

That is my plan. I'm going to use the factory indentation and use the drivers side on the passengers and vice versa.

BRAT registration, car or truck?
newsoobdude replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Funny you mention that as Sko's Brat is registered as a truck YOM 1982. My 86 is truck and as edrach said, to get a vehicle registered as a truck you need to get is weighed, but in CA you ALSO need it as a work vehicle; my friends 91 4Runner was pulled over repeatedly for being too tall (38" Swampers) and being over the legal height of passenger vehicles. Went and got it registered for his business and all was good. Also in CA, if a truck has a sink?, or promises NEVER to remove the camper shell again after install, they can go ahead and get regular Passenger plates. I've noticed that the Baja's, SportTrac's and what ever it is that's Honda's version ALL have Truck plates due to the open bed, even the Avalanches. -
Can I Not trust any garage anymore? :(

Any ideas on where to look? I live in the sticks and the JYs don't have the engines by the time the car gets there.
