Took the 86 out today
Nope, even on level ground it would do the same thing. My neighbor thought I might have bent the accelerator rod (?) due to the fact that the throttle actuator would not return to "stock position". We thought it was the cable binding but realized it was good to go. It was still a fun trip and the car's idle is back down to 750 as I said, so....... I'll take her up again next week or 2 maybe and see what happens.

Took the 86 out today
Went up to Bear Reservoir today to do some fishin. Here's a few pics of the trip. Water level was rather low. Elevation of 6,000 feet or so. Never took the 86 that high up and had an interesting experience. The idle jumped up to around 3k rpms up around 5500ish. Thought something broke but when bake down to regular elevation idle was back at 750 . Had a blast and my neighbor caught a 16 inch German Brown.

EA81+Torquer cam+SPFI= ?
Talking with Delta, it's $65 + shipping for the cam, no core charge, so I'm guessing no more than $85 TOTAL. I have a 5spd D/r I'm thinking of throwing in, but I'm unsure as of now. If I remember right, isn't the XT6 flywheel a "light weight" flywheel compared to a regular EA82? I'm building this Brat for hauling my bike and fun off roading, nothing major (I have an EA81 Wagon for that that I'll be building next [EJ, 8" t-case lift, LSD front/ Lincoln rear]). Since I live in the foothills I probably will put the 5spd in, then look for another 5spd D/r (or single range, modify to full time for the Wagon). I'm thinking 28s so I don't have to do too much trimming with the 5 inch lift I'm going with.

newsoobdude replied to mcbrat's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNope. My 98 Limited doesn't have them . Would be nice if they came with it but oh well, I don't really carry passengers in the back anyways:-p .

EA81+Torquer cam+SPFI= ?

EA81 Rebuild kits
Who do you all use for rebuild kits when redoing your EA81s? I have mine down to the bare block right now and figure I might as well replace all the bearings and seals since it's apart. I know I can get everything individually, but would rather get a rebuild kit if a good one is out their. The only one I've found is from RPM Machine and I don't recall everyone's opinion on them. Any help would be appreciated.

Finaaly got the Brat Engine Home
Ok, so I got the block split and everything apart now and need too get new seals and gaskets and all the other goodies to rebuild her. I remember reading somewhere about rpm machine rebuild kits but don't recall everyones impressions on them and the search doesn't want to help me at the moment. Are there any good rebuild kits out their that ya'll recommend? I'm going to be sending my cam off in the next week or two to get reground and ordering some SPFI pistons and rings to up compression and already got the SPFI manifold and goodies for the conversion (minus Disty mod for EA81). Hopefully by spring next year my Brat will be done.

EA81+Torquer cam+SPFI= ?
I'm redoing the motor on my Brat and am thinking of putting in a Torquer Cam from Delta to make for power for the 5 inch lift that's going under it. Question is, I'm also converting the EA81 to SPFI and was wondering what the Torquer cam will do with the stock Subie Computer. I've been told that on the EJ series cars that replacing the cam with a "non-stock" one that I'll need a different ECU. What about the EA series??? I'm not familiar with FI and engines for the most part so any help would be appreciated. I know I'll need the Disty modified but other than that I'm lost.

Anybody interested in Grimmspeed EA parts?
Good point, forgot about that :-p .

Anybody interested in Grimmspeed EA parts?
Phenolic spacers for an EA81 and EA82 would be great, both N/A and Tubo for those with them (not me). I like them on my 98LOB and would be nice for the EA's as well. Also, Thermal Coating for the intakes too as I have an SPFI setup for my EA81.

Define Beauty... (56k)

Another one added to the collection
Just got back from picking up cyberbackpackers old 1984 GL Wagon 4X4. Has a few issues to be worked out before I can get her the 400 miles to my place, but it ran great after warming up for a few minutes. I was just informed by my dad who has the car that it majorly overheated last night so oh boy on that. We knew the fan was not running but the mechanic switched it to run with the A/C fan but......... Anyways, here's pics Plans were to replace the engine with an EJ and give her a nice 8 inch lift with t case and use the OEM EA81 to run in my Brat until it's engine is done. Will see what happens. This makes 6 Subies I own now, 3 EA81s, 2 EA82s and 1 '98 Outback

Exedy Clutch Any Good
newsoobdude replied to legacyak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAccording to some guys on NASIOC , the f1 clutches are also Exedy made. I went and ordered a Stage 2 for my 98 LOB and sure enough it's an Exedy clutch, Stage 1. $169 plus shipping. Not bad.

Spark Plug Issue 98 Obw
newsoobdude replied to blaze's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom what my limited memory remembers, I think it's better to go with a HOTTER plug, just one step up though. Something about running rich and all that fun. Check sl-i.net for more.

Subaru engine flat 4 or 6 into a Suzuki Samurai
I forget who but someone one here was building a Hatch with a Zuki frame and suspension under it. If I remember right he was going to keep the Subie engine and again if memory serves me right (uh oh), I think it was Bratus1.

Finally! Monster wagon off-road
Sic man sic!!! Looks too sweet! Glad to see you aren't afraid to wheel it . I know have a post somewhere about it, but do you have a FULL build up list with mods?

EA81 Engine dissassembly made easy
They're doing the same here in California, anything that can be taken off has been, from construction sites to Federal Land stuff, anything and everything is being taken. I, personally, cannot wait for the season to open so we can stop them in their tracks.
