  1. So the button on my gas door for my 84 Wagon is broken and I would like to replace it with a new one or a locking setup. Anyone have any ideas? I remember reading somewhere about someone having a similar issue but am not going to search 21 pages of topics to find it (meaning yes i searched but after 2 pages of nothing gave up). Thanks.
  2. Yeah, it was like CHiPs and a slow motion car chase but still thought it was pretty cool. The red one sat taller and looked like a cooler off road version than the RX IMHO but then again, I would've had the RX for canyon carving instead of off roadin. Still cannot believe he pushed it off that edge though:eek:. Wonder in m(any) are still around?
  3. Look at the transmission. It's a standard FWD setup with a rear output added. Great idea but yes "funky".
  4. Yeah, sure it doesn't exist. We know you've been redoin your Buggy and this is how it tuned out:lol:. Sic Sic SIC idea though. I'd do it in a heart beat if I had the time. You gonna add a t-case too?
  5. Rear window got busted out before I bought it. Thankfully my friend had another on one of his parts BRATs that I was able to score. My BRAT has been sitting for 10 years in the same spot and I still CANNOT believe that after so long a time of sitting that the only problems are a horn that doesn't work and a turn signal bulb is out. Otherwise all is good minus said "clunk". Plans are to give it a 5 inch lift, 27s, built EA81 w/ SPFI and Kustom square tube bumpers and a Kustom high bar roll bar. But first I gotta SMOG it and register it then it's on like Donkey Kong:headbang::headbang:.
  6. OK, sorry for laggin been busy working on the BRAT and my job. Here are pics as promised and got the hoses figured, now I gotta figure out the clunk from the drivers front wheel, possibly brake pads according to my friend or the axle end not kosher with the hub. On to the pics. Also, anyone know a good locking (key style) set up for the Wagon fuel door?
  7. Man I need to check this section out more! I live 45 miles SE of Sac. in wonderful Jackson:horse: and have one old school Subie dude I work with at his place where he has a LOT of projects (mostly EA81's) but I have Mondays and Tuesdays off for the time being so........ Hey Brian, when you want to hook up for the bar?
  8. Ya know, it's funny everyone says go to a big auto store and have them read the code. At least here in CA Auto Zone and Kragen and Napa do NOT do the code readings. Don't know about Pep Boys as the closest one is far too far away to make it worth it (went out and bought a scan gauge to make life easier).
  9. unfortunately it will have a salvage title also if ya buy it. I've known too many people taking there cars to the big yard in the sky for MINOR stuff because they were not car people. Also know a few who, like you, got some cars from the yards up and running and purchased them to boot. Example- nice, clean RX7. Needed an alternator. Cost my friend $400 to buy it.
  10. I would kill to get my hands on 2 80ish 720 Crew cabs, one 4X4 and one 4X2. One day I will have to go down to Mexico and see what I can find as that's how a guy I knew back in the day got his old 79ish Toy HiLux Crew cab that made me :slobber::slobber: and worse;). But yeah, I agree that getting a 'Yota would be a better idea than a Subie as you can get parts for them ANYWHERE and good luck in killing an older version. Also, finding a mechanic to fix a Subie correctly is hard where a Toy or anything else is easy (somethin about a flat I guess?)
  11. Nothin special, just my Bucket in the snow on one of the trails at PiPi Valley OHV before Christmas. My Outback up at Burnside. me BRAT
  12. Starting the chant- We want pics! We want pics!!.
  13. Rear discs from 86, whole assembly if ya could and I can pick up ta boot. Maybe even the whole rear assembly if $$$ is right. Is it an LSD? If so, that definitely.
  14. Nice! I know it'd be time consuming to pie cut the daylights out of a c channel to conform to the contours of the bed but would most likely be better than OEM bed trim.
  15. With a portable you'd be able to use it on ANY vehicle and ANYWHERE. Kinda nice when you have to move an unmovable vehicle and have the portable available. As for storing, I'd be willing to bet it'd sprout legs and vanish if stored on the roof and be susceptible to the weather unless in a cargo box.
  16. So I've never seen the underside of a cap where it rests along the bed sides but how hard would it be to make my idea work as a "flat sheet metal alternative" to the flimsy bed trim with the step on the one edge? I was thinking replace the trim with the "c" and would think that a different rubber between the shell and trim would compensate for the step but............. Worst case replicate the trim in sheet metal (yes I know BIG PITA but......)
  17. hehehehehe, yes it is, only I need to replace the rings in cylinder 3 and the EGR valve and gas cap to pass smog, only the engine is in me BRAT for the time being and got another cap and EGR so wish me luck for a registration fix for the BRAT.
  18. If I remember right it's twice the weight of the vehicle in question to be extra safe and not have to worry about breakage of the winch itself. I'd recommend an 8k pounder but be sure to reinforce the bumper mounts.
  19. Here are some pics of my 84 that I picked up from Cyberbackpacker
  20. I would think after all the hard work you did making your Merkrat that you'd be able to figure something (not to be mean but that was a LOT of work you did). One idea I've had is take some sheet metal the same thickness as the body and form a "c" that is just tall enough to clear the body seam and weld in place or bond or whatever. You'd end up with no more seam and a flat top as well. Only "fun" part would be all the pie cuts you'd have to make from the roof to the bed top. Good luck and let us know what you do. PS The Merkrat looks absolutely SIC:slobber:!!!!!!!
  21. Very good idea, just make sure it's not the starter switch. My friend had his Dakota wired up with a separate starter switch (like the old old cars) that he put under the left side of the dash by the column and used a real small button. My dads Porsche is done the same way. I've always wanted to make a second ignition switch and put it in place of the cigarette lighter but still have the lighter part able to sit in it's place with no key in it. Would be a nice hidden ignition and have the OEM ignition set up as a dummy with loose wires hooked up.
  22. man that looks nice. Too bad its not Factory built even though it's got all the factory goodies through the years (minus the lift unfortunately, bet we ALL wish that was a factory option:grin:).
