Timing sprocket?
86BRATMAN replied to Dinky26's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI didn't even notice the manual lol, next time pull the valve covers. You can get a large wrench on the cam to hold it in place to remove the bolt more easily. I don't think I have any extras at the momente, but I would have to look to be sure. But they are really common, I've seen a set or two posted on legacycentral and rs25 in the last couple weeks.

What year outback struts to lift my 99 LGT?
86BRATMAN replied to comatosellama's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's the forester springs that give the extra lift over outback. The front struts are identical heights for 98-08 forester and 96-99 outback (probably 00-04 as well). The rear struts from the outback are taller from knuckle mount to spring perch by about an inch, this only applies to the 96-99 vs 98-03. I have posted pictures in a couple other threads showing the difference in these.

Does 205/70R15 fit on Gen1 Legacy front?
The 90/91, 89/90 in your neck of the woods, models have lower spring spring perches. If you have those year struts you will have less clearance, but they may still fit.

What year outback struts to lift my 99 LGT?
86BRATMAN replied to comatosellama's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo need to check it, the legacy didn't get multi link until the 00 model.

Anyone built a reverse frankenmotor?
Could you share your solution to the cam gear trigger pattern?

struts all the way around
86BRATMAN replied to yortyarg's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTo my knowledge nobody makes a "quick strut" for a subaru. I'd be happy to be shown otherwise though. I'm not a big fan of the compressor I have.

usable tire sizes,,.. on 96' outback
86BRATMAN replied to scrollwriter's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs long as the circumference of the tires is within a quarter inch between all four you will be fine.

Anyone built a reverse frankenmotor?
Do much research on a wrx ecu swap with a phase 1 motor, there is a lot more involved than Chux make it sound. You'd be better off stuffing an entire wrx swap in the car than trying to get all the little things needed to run the ecu correctly. To my knowledge there are only a handful of people who have done it.

'92 Celica ST
How is the top on the 91? My brother had a 92 vert a few years back that was an absolute whore to keep warm in the winter because the seals were garbage.

Experienced mechanics, help me with timing belt change
86BRATMAN replied to 1 Lucky Texan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe water and oil pump takes literally an extra half an hour at the most. I could see leaving the water pump til next timing belt as I usually only do them on every other change. But there is absolutely no reason not to pull off the oil pump to check the screws and do new seals. If the screws are loose it's just a matter of time before the motor loses oil pressure and eats bearings.

Steering Rack from 98 Forester into 98 Impreza?
86BRATMAN replied to fishy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe rack will physically work in the impreza, but the steering ratio is much slower than the impreza unit.

EJ22 Build- Discussion, Suggestions and Advice for a First-timer
86BRATMAN replied to pginter96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSince your ej22 has egr the only thing you need to worry about is swapping the single port exhaust manifold. Just use the flywheel from the ej25d, probably a new clutch. Everything is a bolt in affair.

1998 Impreza Outback Turbo Swap
86BRATMAN replied to leftyfork's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm just basing that off what I've read, never done a dohc swap in an ea81 body. I have done a basic ej22e in a brat.

1998 Impreza Outback Turbo Swap
86BRATMAN replied to leftyfork's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf putting it in place in an ea81 body you've got to notch the the frame rails so the heads clear. A sohc swap fits far better space wise. An ea82 body has no issues with that part. Everything else for the ea to ej swap would still apply as normal.

Anyone built a reverse frankenmotor?
There are all sorts of details on legacy central about building a dohc ej22. You're probably searching the wrong terms, dohc ej22 or ej22d would yield some results. They aren't complicated really, if you can do head gaskets you can do this engine. Things you need from the ej25d, heads(duh), intake manifold, oil pan, oil pickup tube, dipstick tube and dipstick, black metal coolant pipe from water pump to heater core. You also need to run either a pair of oem ej22t or cometic ej22t head gaskets. You cannot use ej22e head gaskets or you have a quick blown head gasket because the coolant ports in the head are different. I've built a couple of these now, I can talk you through it.

EJ22 Build- Discussion, Suggestions and Advice for a First-timer
86BRATMAN replied to pginter96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo differences in them at all. Just be sure you replace all the idlers and tensioner pulleys with the belt, the bearings are the most common fail point in the timing system.

EJ22 Build- Discussion, Suggestions and Advice for a First-timer
86BRATMAN replied to pginter96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust basing this off your pictures and person experience, that's a 97/98 motor, from the coilpack and valvetrain and presence of egr. I've never heard of different timing belts for the ej22e, it's possible their listings are mixing in the ej222 which does in fact have a different timing belt. In the 15 years I've been working with ej series cars I've never seen a phase 1 sohc not use the same belt.

1995 Impreza L wagon drivetrain noise
86BRATMAN replied to tbolt1003's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI tried bending it back with a crow bar, but had little luck because the bushing is pretty bad. At least now I know I don't have to find a straight one which is damn near impossible the way most salvage yards prop the cars up on wheels right in that area.
