Sealing Water Port for Weber
The Scooby replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
never mind GD, i was thinking of someone else. but i got some JBweld and some other stuff that is putty, i put a bunch of the putty in, and it takes 15 minutes to harden fully, so im going to let it cure for about 30 minutes then do for a drive and see what happends. also the car doesn't seem to have the same power, seems to have less thent he hitachi... guess i will be doing some tuning to change that because this does have the bigger venturies. looks as if im going to have to get a book and Webers and do some reading. Shean -
ok i searched and found that GeneralDisorder used Permatex @ form a gasket to seal it, i tried that, didn't hold. so i pulled it all back apart and used the rest of the tube of it and pushed it in with a tooth pick. but if this doesn't hold what would you gues recomend me try, i was thinking JB weld, but i dunno about that. Anyone??? Thanks, Shean

well got it mounted, and everything running right, i just need to get a air cleaner for it. i got a linkage kit through Autosport its made by EMPI part# MB/430602 it replaces the stock weber linakge and makes it much easier to adapt the stock cable onto the carb, i just cut off the lead, and put it on. havent gone driving yet, but it seems to run smoother at adle by quite a bit, and revs faster. ^ and there's the new linkage kit from EMPI, was only $10, and well worth it. ya, $20 i dont have. so looks as if im going to go buy some JB Weld to plug that whole in the intake where the coolant goes up into the stock hitachi. Shean

1978 Brat, i love the dual headlight settup and bodystyle, also the jump seats in the back, but i would have to upgrade the drivetrain to a newer STi platform, now that would be tits. Shean

Need Throttle cable!!!
The Scooby replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
we have a 82 turbo wagon at my work, i will see if the throttle cable is there, i bet it still is, if it is ill grab it for you and get the price today if the good weather holds up. Shean -
ok, but how do i mount the throttle cable onto the linakge? and rather then buying that thing from redline i can make one in like 20 minutes at school for free, except for the time it takes to make it.

ok i got my DFAV weber which im putting on my car tomarrow. i got the adapter i needed, just need to get suds and nuts to bolt the weber onto the adapter. oh and i only paid $33.60 for the adapter, rather then $48 since i work at Aaron's auto wrecking... another plus of this job. but my questions are: do i need to ad anoth throttle return spring other then the one on it? how do i hook up the stock EA82 throttle cable onto it? thats all i can think of right now. Thanks, Shean

i need brakes anyway so i threw them on as is, also got in my rear sway bar today, so now i have front and rear swaybars, front is a 3dr turbo RX, rear is a 4dr RX turbo, the difference is night and day with just upgraded swaybars, i love it. also i cut the soft lines, it was just easier to use my stock soft lines down to the hard line that connects to the caliper. it was easier tog et out of the car that way. also got my RX side skirts painted and mounted, it rained today, but ill get pictures tomarrow and upload them. how much does it cost to insure your 80s soobs?
The Scooby replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
$210 a month for libility for the 86 GL 5sp 4X4 wagon. thats because i had a revoked lisence and 5 tickets, 3 of which went on my record in under 2 years. Stupid me YAAAA... Shean -
well... i got the drivers side swaped over with no problems, so now i just have to get that pin out of the drivers side CV, swap it around and im good. also ive been bleeding the carb brakes for like 30 minutes on the drivers side and finally got no bubbles to come out. passenger too like 10. Shean
-
ok, well i got home tonight from work and got started, and my problem is that i cant get the rear CV axle pin back in. i pulled the trailing arms, brake lines, etc in about 40 minutes, didn't know what i was doing. got the new one in in about a half hour, again had to fight it. now i cant get the pin that goes through the CV and the output shaft on the diff to go all the way in. i just have to get it in, then bleed the brakes on the drivers side, then start to attack the passenger side and do that side tomarrow, then hit the front and get the new pads/rotors on the front tomarrow also. Thanks, Shean

well not lowered YET, i will hopfully be getting my stuff to lower it in the comming weeks since i work at Aaron's, but so far im running pug 15" alloy's with 205/55/15 BFG Traction T/a's, RX front sway bar, XT6 rear swaybar, RX rear trailing arms w/ disk brakes. the sway bars and lower trailing arms/brakes are getting put on tonight.
-
yep... ^new RX front sway bar ^ new rear disk stuff, and lower trailing arms so i can have a rear sway bar. just have to get the arms striped, painted, paint the calipers, swaybars, and bunch of other stuff.
-
well today i called in to Aaron's and told them to not pull that RX tranny for me, and instead i want the rear suspension. so i get in today, and after work i was able to stay after and pull the rear trailing arms with the RX rear swaybar, disk brakes, and axle's. ended up i traded my turbo, turbo heads and piping for XT6 front/rear sway bars, RX rear trailing arms w/disk brakes. then i am trading my extra 5sp d/r tranny for the ground FX off the car, i pulled all of them tonight except for the front air dam, gonna get that monday. get pictures of install and everything else later. again, just one more reason why everyone will probally hate me. since i paid $50 for that turbo stuff and got the 5sp d/r tranny for free, and im trading it for the skirt kit, and all that other stuff. i would say to just run a optima red top battery and a GM alt, get a 90 amp alt or get the 105amp conversion. ive done the GM 90 conversion when i had a 800w stereo system, and had no more problems. do a search on it. Shean

the rails are the same as the impreza's, you can swap anything from i think it was 90-2000 into any other car, the other shawn put the wrx seats into his car and i got his old ones. all you do is redrill the back hole, then put in a nut and bolt. ill try to get pictures for everyone today when i do the passenger seat.

The Scooby replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

OK. Let's talk about this picture.
The Scooby replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im going to say a real truck front and rear diff, with a T-case... maybe out of a toyota, or other mini older truck??? am i close?? -
man, i just got back from taking a cruse down Alki, which is a cruse place here in seattle, well let me tell you, the seats i have are SOOOOOOO much better then any other seat i have sat in and driven a car hard, excluding the new RECARO's. all i did to mount them was get the stock seat brackets, take off the impreza's, use the EA82 screws on the front of the bracket, closest to your feet, then slide the brackets forward like you would be moving your seat backwards. then redrill the rear holes, put in a bolt and nut, bolt them into your car, and enjoy. please ignore the mess, i was about to clean it, that was from about the last 2 months of working every day. yep, they are using the SPFI bottom end, so im gonna trade shortblocks with them, carb for spfi, and then port/polish my carb heads, put on the SPFI cams, then port the intake and put on a weber and ill be done with the motor. also i got a set of free impreza seats today from the other shawn. he ended up buying the WRX seats so he gave me his old seats, i had the stock EA82 bracks modified and had the driver seat in in about 1 hour. i would put in the passenger but i need to grab 3 bolts that holds the back support to the bottom from work tomarrow, then ill put it in tomarrow night. ill upload the pictures of the seat, my new grill, and other stuff later. Shean

ok well today at work i made another score. got a catless Y-pipe for free, forester black shift knob for free. but here comes the questions, how to i retrofit XT6, or any other sway bar onto the rear of the car when my car didn't have one from factory. also i was talking to my superior Lenny who said its gettin hard to come by a good EA82 Carbed mtoro, i told him i got one, he said that they just use a newer motor's bottom end with the eads/cams and such no difference just people say it has more power then the EA82, so its now looking like i am going to build a new motor for the car, with a weber, custom exhaust, etc. and then the RX FT4WD tranny. So can anyone help with my questions? Thanks, Shean

ive got a 5sp dual range tranny i might be selling soon, since i am hopefully getting a RX full time 4wd tranny to put in, and if you would like i can deliver the tranny for a small fee, like $15 to $20 depending on distance from me to you.
