It's alive! Pics of 80 DL hatch. 56k warning!
carfreak85 replied to tscinmd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just thought I'd mention that your redline is at 5,500 rpm and not 4,500 rpm. -
Suspention Recommendation?
carfreak85 replied to tscinmd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The factory service manual specifies that the front suspension has POSITIVE camber. Its not anything to get alarmed about because all vintage subarus came this way. -
Pics?

I'm about 99% positive that all brats were 4WD regardless of DL, GL or anything like that. The first 4WD model was back in the early 70's and it was a wagon.

Quattro San lives! (Updated as of 11/2/2004)
carfreak85 replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It came from a volume manufacturer. I know they still make this kind of thing, but having it installed might cost more than your car is worth. -

The joystick is the fader for the stereo. The spoiler was a peice that was avalible for most hatchbacks in the 80's. The sunroof is a ragtop, but in its condition, we don't dare open it. Its aftermarket as well. I have zero info on that brat, sorry. -
My old man has the rubber mats on his 02 WRX. We kept the factory floor mats in the car and the nipples on the rubber mat have dug in and held on. No problems at all, the mats stay in place even with hard driving. The floor mat is held in place with rubber nipples and the factory post thing. It is a 5 speed which has the factory short shifter and I haven't had any trouble with hitting the center console extention (Which this car has). I've heard people complaining on the web, but nobody that I know that has had a GDB Impreza has ever had any issues with the shifter/center console when they driver our car after driving theirs.

Those with aftermarket coils...
carfreak85 replied to deuce's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an MSD Blaster 2 coil and I didn't have to do anything special to get it in. However I installed it before I got my car operational so I can't give you a compairison with the stock coil, but it hasn't let me down yet. One of my next mods will be an MSD 6AL and I'll let you know how that works out after I get it installed. -
I thought you were refering to the turbine style wheels that fit subaru. These are the ones I have:

Shadyirishmen said he will start making bumpers and such. Do a search for him and see what he has said on the topic.

Group Buy: Allied Armament 15 x 6 Wheels
carfreak85 replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
Yes they will fit your car, no you don't need a lift if you don't put oversize tires on them. -
Ask them to photo copy the pages you need or get a job at the dealership!

You know, I have no idea... Time for a little research -
Those aren't turbine wheels. I have a similar set, but they aren't dished like that.

Sorry, thats my bad. That was my album and it got deleted, but I can't edit that post, so I have remained silent until now! I have BIG NEWS! GREAT NEWS!!! QUATTRO SAN RUNS!!! Yes it is true! Despite the huge clouds of smoke billowing from the tailpipe and the puddles of oil that follow in its wake, QSan is operational and driveable! While I still need to find exactly where the oil leak is coming from, I'm pretty sure the turbo oil seals are the cause of the smoke. I'll keep the updates coming as well as new pics for those who want them, but until then here are all the old pictures I have of Quattro San. By the way, the car is called Quattro san because the project was an attempt to build a poor man's Audi Quattro which was the pinicle of 4WD performance at the time. Oh, and another thing, THIS IS NOT THE CAR FROM THE MOVIE!!! At some point that car was at Western too. How do I know this? Because there is a picture with our good ole Dr. Seal! (Notice the BRAT in the background). See picture below of Jackie Chan's Cannonball Run hatchback: The rest of the photos of Quattro San and of mystery WWU subaru stuff can be found here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?ppuser=18&cat=500 Any questions? -
Those wheels are SICK!!! Its cool to know that lifts were avalible back in the day. Now to find a set of them rims!
-
What I find impressive looking at the chart comparing JWX to WJM is that even with all the mods to WJM's car, his line is so much smoother than the stock RX except for the dip at 5200rpm. I wonder what caused that at stock boost.
-
Ignition coils for the RX.
carfreak85 replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think the MSD 6AL is Carb exempt. Multiple sparking can't do anything but help cure missfires. -
On the second chart, what happened just before 5K rpm?

Going to Discount Tire today for a job interview. MUHAHAHAHHA!!! Swampers will soon be MINE!!!

I've had issues with Brian's as well. I won't go into detail, but I will say that I wont be going there for work ever again. -

Cherokees only came with stright sixes. V8s need not apply.
