  1. This is the right answer. You have to look at the ECU pinout, find the wire that the ECU uses to sense if its a manual or auto and either open or ground it, I forget which. This is the easiest way to fix your problem.
  2. Some old datsuns used the R160 510's and maybe others.
  3. Those 4.444 front gears aren't cheap new. They are almost $400 for the set. I know because I've been looking for a set for my wrx used. Only thing in the US that used 4.444 in a five speed is the forester turbo. Rear 4.444's are easy to come by from automatic outbacks.
  4. I am pretty sure it would work. I think I have a 97 outback cylinder with key in my spare parts I can sell you for $20 if you need it.
  5. Ok lets say you could get the '98 intake on the engine. You are still left with a major problem in that the trigger wheel for the cam sensor is totally different and there is no solution for that. You'd be better off either fixing the engine in the car or picking up an EJ22 to swap in, or putting the shortblock from your spare engine you have in if the heads on the on in the car are still good.
  6. I've done something similar, but it involved a stuck injector filling the cylinder with gas. Cranked it over with the plug out to clear the gas out and boom. I also shoulda unplugged the coil Flames were about 20-30 feet high.
  7. I always use the impact gun also. Use it while the belt is still on. Breaks them loose right away. If you are doing seals on an interference engine line the marks up before you take the belt off. A big socket also works great as a seal driver to install the seals.
  8. I think you can pull the axle and then take out the bearing adjuster to get at the speedo gear. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it'll come out that way. It's worth a shot before you pull the trans. Mark the adjuster so you can put it back where it was.
  9. If the metal they made ff-1's out of is anything like what they used on 360's (I bet it is) you don't want to acid dip it. It's super thin to begin with, if you dipped it, there wouldn't be much left to the body.
  10. I don't recall the code number but it was an idle control code for sure. It would idle really high on startup then surge some, stalled once in a while too. The intake manifold was a little loose. I found it by spraying carb cleaner around the base of the manifold. Did you just have the engine apart on this? You really have to tighten it down good on new gaskets or they don't seal up.
  11. That would be the '07 STi limited. I'll probably get one of those in a few years when the price comes down and my bugeye gets worn out.
  12. Trade your legacy in for a Legacy spec B. Best of both worlds.
  13. They sell for more because there is a demand for them. They aren't any different than other legacy wagons except for the right hand drive.
  14. You don't really NEED any of that, it just make it a little easier. I just use a regular floor jack to swap them all the time.
  15. 95-99 body parts are the same except for the headlights changed in 98 to a 2 part setup, but either complete setup will work in any year.
  16. Hazelton, Allentown and Pennsburg. Pennsburg is closest to me and has the best selection of 90's subie parts.
  17. I'd check the linkage, mounts and bushings in the shifter first. I don't think you are too far from me, if so you can pick up a used trans from harry's U pull it for $60 if you can pull it out yourself.
  18. Will that bolt onto a standard EJ head? I'm not doubting, I've never tried it myself, but the back of the head looks kinda different?
  19. The fastest cheapest and easiest thing to do is replace the bad auto trans with a used one. It shouldn't cost more than a few hundred for a used trans. 96-99 struts should fit ok.
  20. They screwed up and did crappy work. If you paid for an alignment you deserve a straight steering wheel. It only takes a few minutes to center it. If you are fed up with them you can fix it yourself. It's easy to set toe with a tape measure across the tread of the tire. To center the wheel turn one side in and the other out.
  21. There are plenty of them on ebay at that price. But the JDM EJ25's have no egr if you need one, which is a big issue if you live somewhere that has emissions inspection. You will have a CEL on if you use one of these in a car that had egr.
  22. I'd be proud to park mine next to yours, park it with everyone else. I'm sure everyone is just kidding about it being ugly. I know I was:grin: Heck my 360 was advertised new as "cheap and ugly" by SOA.
  23. Be careful with the JDM EJ25's they don't have an EGR valve or any provisions to mount one, if you need one. The places that sell them won't tell you that.
