  1. No signal from the crank or cam sensor, bad ignitor or something not plugged in you might have missed?
  2. Right after the disapointment of the rusty hatch we got the WRX. It's awesome and was the deal of a lifetime. She's been driving that around a lot. She doesn't like the 5 speed, although I think she drives it just fine. She wants a hatch or a wagon, 87 or older hatch or 84 or older wagon. She really wants a 4wd auto. The hatch in this thread was going to get an EJ22/4eat swap, but we never got it since it was so rusty.
  3. He gave her a non-paying bidder strike. She says she doesn't really care, it doesn't do much unless you get several of them. He didn't leave her a negative feedback and she didn't leave him one. He obviously sold the car anyway.
  4. Yeah it's a 1 7/8-2" split flange. Break off what's left of the ears of the original flange. This will fit behind what's left, the part that the donut sits on. It will come with long 3/8 bolts, use them forget the springs. Then you will be able to get it tight.
  5. It shouldn't matter too much. I have had them where the flange totally rotted off the 2nd cat. I used a repair flange with the donut seated against what was left of the old flange and it didn't leak at all. Your flange might be so rusted and bent it's not pulling the pipes tight enough together. I use a repair flange from autozone, it's like 5 bucks comes with 3/8 bolts and I eliminate the springs. Then you can really tighten the pipes down. If all else fails try some high temp copper silicone behind the donut.
  6. Yeah that's the one. It's rusted bad. Probably couldn't get it past state inspection there. It would never pass here in PA. Wonder how much he paid for it. The dealer was giving us some story about how some guy was willing to pay $1800 for it, if we didn't want it.
  7. If you take out the pitch stopper (dogbone) they usually fall right in. Jack under the trans as high as you can get it, drop engine in, slide the studs in, install top bolts and tighten, drop and remove hoist, drop the jack under the trans and the studs usually fall into the holes. If they are off a bit (an inch isn't much) do the big screwdriver/prybar and hammer to drive them back some, they will drop right in without a lot of hammering.
  8. I just registered. I only registered the 360 so far. I might bring the WRX too, I have to see about getting a hitch for it to tow the 360. Should be fun. I think I will show up Friday afternoon and hit the dragstrip, then stay for Saturday and go home Saturday night.
  9. Perrin sells a poly insert that goes into the stock bushing and stiffens it up. It's for Wrx's but I bet it fits a legacy also.
  10. This seems like a typical head gasket. But if you have been driving for years like this, I would be very careful about putting money into this engine. The more you drive it the more likely it has warped or cracked heads and/or block.
  11. The most common place for evap system leaks is a rusted out fuel filler neck.
  12. I was at the dealer the other day picking up a part. I was checking out an '08 WRX with a trunk. I think they call it the 4 door sedan or whatever. I like it! It's not ugly like the hatchback.
  13. The wheels will fit. The stock outback tires are going to be big for an impreza.
  14. No way should you need a puller. The EJ dampers are not a press fit they just slide on.
  15. Both timing belts fit. One has a longer service interval. I like to change the tensioners at the 200,000 mile belt change. But if they aren't leaking grease loose or noisy you coudl reuse them. If the tensioner isn't leaking it's good to reuse. Subaru sells the wrench. You really don't need it. I use an air impact gun to break the cam bolts loose. If some work it's just bulbs. These usually get 25-30 mpg if all is well.
  16. 99's still have the 2 piece lights. Both mount the same anyway.
  17. I go to those yards sometimes. Let me know a date and I'm up for it. I haven't been up to hazleton lately, Ive been sticking to the pennsburg Harry's. A-Z off 61 had lots of old subies the last time I went.
  18. I'm going. I'm bringing the 360 for sure. If I get a trailer hitch for the WRX, I will bring both. That should be a sight to see, a WRX with a 360 in tow. Is anyone going to the drag racing friday night? I'm up for it. I want to race the 360. Are people starting to register yet?
  19. X2 on a used diff. It will cost more to repair the one you have now. They hardly ever go bad, so your chances of getting a good used one are very good.
  20. You could go with the EJ22 swap. You might run into some additional problems since your 99 forester should have an EJ25 phase 2. The forester also has some things different with the intake. But for $100 go for it. I would not bother with a rebuild on a car you have $100 into. Put in the used engine, drive it and enjoy. If down the road you have trans problems, put in a used one.
  21. I'm in PA, about 2 hours or so from Delaware. I do head gaskets for $700 labor plus parts. I have a trailer for pickup if needed.
  22. I'm up for this, let me know. I've also got a truck and trailer if needed.
  23. I wish I could sell them for the prices you're quoting. I'd gladly take the money. Heck I didn't even pay that much for my 02 WRX. Oh well no point in argueing, the prices are what they are.
  24. KBB is way out there on pricing. The NADA book is more real world. A nice '99 outback with low miles could sell at a used lot around here for $4000 maybe $4500 if it was a limited.
