  1. you could also put some dye in the system to see if you have leaks anywhere......maybe thats why there is no charge in there.....
  2. yeah every time i do an oil change on any subaru for the most part...i have a hard time reading the oil on the dipstick...like aircraftengineer said as long as you know your dumping in the right amount i wouldnt worry about it.......
  3. my headgaskets went at around 100k and now i have 190,000 on the car and its still running like a champ.....if nothing was cracked, warped or damaged i would replace the gaskets........
  4. most people i talk to bash sony when it comes to audio equiptment but i have and excellant sony head unit........There not to expensive and a decent brand.....
  5. im just puttin this out there..........there is a small possibility that when you depress the caliper without opening the bleeder that the brake fluid will make its way back up into the lines and ruin the check valves for the ABS system........i have done countless brake jobs and have never run into this problem but i have heard of it happening before.......just a tip.....
  6. def. understandable ive run into that multiple times....if you havent already check out..... cars101.com .....wealth of info on all subarus.......
  7. if you dont have it i would pick up the haynes manual or chilton manual.....extremely helpful for anything you want to do to your car......
  8. problem fixed...thanks for the ideas guys.....i was looking for the cooling fan relays and unbenounced to me subaru put 1 fan relay under the dash above the fuse box..theonly 3 i was checking were in the fuse box in the engine compartment...it turned out there was no relay in the connector under the dash......stupid me...should have read a proper wiring diagram......
  9. 1996 legacy L ej22...just wondering if anyone can tell me how exactly the AC cooling fans work.....the problem im having is the only fan that works is the main cooling fan.....isnt the other sub fan supposed to turn on when the AC is turned on?....the cooling fan comes on at the right time (when the engine is up to temp) and shuts off at the right time.......the MAIN FAN also comes on when i hit the AC button on the climate control panel, but isnt the sub fan supposed to turn on when i hit the AC button? i have tested a few things....all 4 relays tested good according to the HAynes manual, i have a good ground at the sub fan, the fuses are all good, but i have NO POWER at the sub fan...if someone could give me a brief overview on how the system works that would be great.......
  10. wow....i just got done doing this not 4 days ago on my 96 Legacy....yeah the o ring seals a little tough......i took a screw driver and stuck it behind the cap and gave it a few taps with a hammer and it started coming out.....be careful not to nick anything though......
  11. yes it is possible.....i made that mistake i thought it was all the way in.....so when i would hit the climate control area at night it would light up and hit it again and it would go back off.....i just took it all back apart and now its good.....
  12. ive heard of people keeping the pinch bolt in for the ball joint and undoing the balljoint nut and pounding the living hell out of the lower control arm.....ive never done that but apparently it works for some people.......also maybe some PB.....
  13. yeah same.....i would def. check your timing one last time...i just did the timing belt on my ej22 for the third time......i guess third time is a charm because the first two times i did it i was a few teeth off each time......i would also check compression.....
  14. the only thing i can tell ya is that it would be a pretty underpowered Forester....obviously the main thing that is holding all subarus back from getting better fuel economy is the AWD standard im not sure how much you will gain from going from a 2.5 to a 1.8...but when it comes to fuel economy AWD def. isnt the way to go....
  15. if your speaking about the fan where it says (1 2 3 4) yes it is supposed to light up.....i have a 96' legacy also.......when i acquired my car none of the climate control lights worked at night.......there are 3 small bulbs behind there i believe you can get them at radio shack for pretty cheap (i bought them at subaru) i cant remember the parts numbers off hand but do a search and you might find them (i think i got the PN from someone on the board)....its a pretty simple job........
  16. 1. im not to sure how it is in other states and countries but here in PA.....its a law that if one set of brakes fail (front or rear) the other is capable of safely stopping the vehicle.... 2. nothing i can think of.....as long as you have done it before it shouldnt be a prob. 3. Usually you can buy tubes/cans of grease that say "caliper grease" on it......i always do it on the brakes i replace because there is a small chance they could get a little noisy if you dont..... 4.if there are anti squeel shims on there when you take the old pads off....i would def. reuse them if not get new ones.....
  17. yup seatbelt chime....i almost ripped my wires off when i tugged on the seat to get it out......
  18. alright got everything back together and it runs just fine...a little rich because the bat. was disconnected and i think the PCM lost its Keep Alive Memory so after a little bit of driving i think it should go back to normal......thanks for all your help fellas...so far the cam seals/ orings are a success....
  19. as for the hub you could check out your local junkyards.....or browse e-bay you might find something.......as for the stalling issue it could be a number of things....fuel pump, ignition problem....just to name a few.....
