  1. a friend of mine runs those year round... replaces them every year too.... sells the used ones for like 30 bucks, then buys new ones... he gets em from a direct dealer... he runs them on ALL his cars...( thats like 8 cars...) running year round in Vancouver they last about 2 years... sells them to all his customers too... a great tire... but i can't afford to run snows year round... but i do anyway... BFG winter slolom tires are a harder rubber then normal snows... so they last a long time... aren't as good as the coopers snow performance wise... cost like 20 bucks more a tire then the coopers too... but since i'm not paying for em... i'm not complaining... but ya, when i get the money to run the tires of my choosing, i'm going with those coopers... great price for unbeatable traction.... you should screw using chains, and get some snows... you'll be laughin' the whole way to where ever your going...
  2. i dunno about the rest of the world, but in BC the rules are strict... if the roads up in the interior and on the sea-to-ski highway are bad, then you either have to have chains or REAL snow tires... they don't care if your AWD, 4WD, or pushing your car... and i'm talking real snow tires... all seasons don't cut it... and tires with M+S on em don't count either... they have to have the little mountain and snow flake symbol on em... people are to unaware oh what they are driving... people are under the impression that all season tires aren't much worse then snows... as most of you probably know already all seasons get blown outa the water by snows... they made those laws here after a few teens died on the highway while using used all season tires... they thought they were indestructable... hence the laws..... luckily i have snows... my dad was p*ssed when he found out his A/T tires on the truck and the all-seasons on the legacy weren't going to cut it on the roads when they were bad... he'd get turned back... and that's a good way to ruin a vacation...
  3. i've been talking to him on a regular basis... phone him!
  4. alright... i tried posting this once... but it failed... so i'm not going to be so descriptive this time... pretty much, found beach, played... found some mud, played... got a flat tire... bad... blew a brake cylinder or caliper... leaking fluid... it was loads of fun though... we first went to an empty beach... crossed a creek... loads of fun... first water crossing! heres a pic of before entering the water... got out to check the creek i was about to plow into... car looked cool... had to snap one... my new desktop background... (dangit... the pic seemed to be moved to the bottom... go there... and you'll see my background... hope these aren't to big... this was before entering the water... making sure i wasn't going to get hung up on a rock that was under my car... then this pic is of me taking the plunge... i enjoyed that... lots of fun... water everywhere... pic was kinda fizzy... friend didn't really know how to use my cam... still turned out alright... besides the broken items and having to get my sorry arse hauled outa the mud by a ford, it was a really fun day! everybody i met on the trails were all very kind and helped me out... asked loads of questions about my brat... seemed to draw more attention then the biggest boggers...
  5. assuming your harness itself isn't bad, just the connector, you could easily go get a cheap test light(like 3 bucks from any auto store) then just go through the wires one by one... one will be ground... so connect the test light to that, or maybe even thte body... it shouldn't matter... then just get somebody to step on the brakes, see which one turns on, then the blinkers... it should be quite simple to come up with your own wiring diagram... i hope that helps... and if at all possible, solder your wires... it'll work way better... Good luck! and welcome to the board!
  6. lol i'm apart of an elite few... i've had my 79 brat trans appart... to replace the front seal of course...
  7. the company that makes sweet82's buggy (rhino buggies) makes a Humbug... which is designed for the suby drivetrain... and looks like a hummer... although those are pretty sweet... i want one of each...
  8. oh my... somebody bid 800 bucks for it...:-\ lol its kinda cool in a "what the hell are you thinking" kinda way...
  9. check out www.rallitek.com they got some good stuff... i know they have kits for the 2.2... oh and... Welcome to the board!!
  10. That thing looks awesome! and it seems like your staying on budget! can't wait to see some action shots... your gonna have loads of fun... i think thats primer... white primer... and hey, did you fix that tranny mount bolt?
  11. hehe... the only person i've seen actually foil the AWD system in my parents 01 legacy was my mom! she had one front tire on ice (frozen big puddle) and when we wanted to move we couldn't... that front tire just spun to its hearts content... she tried it once... then gave me a puzzled look, then tried it again... second time we moved... i guess the computers for the AWD figured it out... power went to the back wheels... kinda slow reaction(it was 3-4 seconds)... but then again my mom stopped pretty quick we she saw that she wasn't moving... so there you go... its possible to spin a front wheel only...
  12. my axle was clicking... or at least i thought it was the axle... 2 axles later i discover something odd... it sounded much like axle click... the front brake pads were clicking against the bracket... that explained why it was clicking when going straight, but not grinding around corners, or harsher clickage... then i put in a few 30 cent clips and the noice was gone! to bad i messed up 2 axles to fix it... but hey, i'd make sure your axle click is REALLY axle click... it probably is... but i don't want to see my misfortune passed onto others... just take off the wheel and try moving the padds.. e-brake off of course... or easier... see if it stops clicking when you brake... fairly hard braking... good luck!
  13. hey mine is yellow! and i was there! is it a gen 1 brat? KUDOS to john! he's awesome! depending on how it turns out, he might help me with project Brat RX next summer... (do a search for Brat RX if you want the details...) can't wait to see pics of your new rig!
  14. more updating... i just got a lead on an ej22... the guy who is gonna store the RX stuff for me also has a bevy of other vihicles... he'd let me trade him the EA82T motor for an EJ22 that has blown HG... how hard is it to change HG on an ej22? according to him they recommend you replace the head bolts... but him being a metalwhatzit engineer, he says that if i cook em in the oven for 24hrs at 500F, then cooled at room temp, they'd be good as new... save me 200 bucks... downside, i have to pull it outa the car myself... big woop! it'll be freakin' freee!(since the EA82T is free...)
  15. see i was thinking of using my original front cross member, and getting a set of struts that mike(can't remember board name) makes... using EA81 struts with some crazy VW cartrage in it... so all i'd be using is the springs... so that wouldn't widen my track width would it? and for the rear, i was told i might be able to just make the struts fit in... and get rid of my torsion bars... (or maybe keep them... super duper stiff!) sway bar i have no idea about... but it's goin' in the box anyway! i plan to pick and choose the parts later... i'd rather have more then i'm using then to have less then i need... save money and time... but ya, you think i'll be able to carry all that stuff in my brat? i just got a lead on an ej22... the guy who is gonna store the RX stuff for me also has a bevy of other vihicles... he'd let me trade him the EA82T motor for an EJ22 that has blown HG... how hard is it to change HG on an ej22? according to him they recommend you replace the head bolts... but him being a metalwhatzit engineer, he says that if i cook em in the oven for 24hrs at 500F, then cooled at room temp, they'd be good as new... save me 200 bucks... downside, i have to pull it outa the car myself... big woop! it'll be freakin' freee!(since the EA82T is free...)
  16. he was out in the first stage! i was so angered... his car had electrical problems... when he rolled up it sounded like he was only running on 3 cylinders... although that may have been just the lumpiest cams on the planet...
  17. So now an update... i've been talking with they guy a fair amount... and i have a list of the stuff he's taken out so far... this is what he wrote: You won't need too much in the way of work time. Just about everything is out of the car and sitting under a tarp in the back yard. The dash is out, the steering column with computer is out, the entire wiring harness is out and sitting in a box in the garage. The rear subframe, with diff, brakes and struts is off the car but all in one piece. The transmission is out, and most of the linkage. The front cross member is in one piece, with the suspension, brakes and struts. I think all that's left on the shell is the handbrake cables and items like the clutch and brake master cylinders. We even have two good doors, and a set of seats. so heres my questions... do i need anything else from this thing!? i can modify the clutch so i can use a cable instead of the hydro right? brake cylinder... meh... right? i might take the seats... mine are uncomfortable... and ugly... and i slide outa the seat when i turn sharply... now heres a good question... you think i can get all that stuff into my 79 brat?!?! engine, trans, front end, rear end, seats, dash, stearing columb, computer, harness... anything else? i know i'm picking up a piece of the body kit for shadow... erm... anybody want anything? mind you i have dibbs on all the above stuff until i can determine if i need it or not... i don't know how much of it i'm using...

  19. looks great! awesome that it runs well! so do you think i'd be able to pull off an EJ22 swap into my 79 in under a month? (lol and with an RX trans... hmm... this is sounding harder and harder the closer i get to it...) nice isuzu 4WD badges too...
  20. i know justy's are used in TSD... there was one at the novice event i was in... although it didn't compete... but! at pacific forest rally there was a justy! yup... PFR is a stage rally... this is the team profile... http://www.pacificforestrally.com/archives/2005/bio/bio_McLaren.htm that was a fun event... if you like i could maybe find a way to contact him and see if they have any worn out, yet still usable rally tires... for competition, they are to worn... but for the average Joe, still lots of life left in em...
  21. from what i've seen, its normal... 01 legacy does the same thing... i'm pretty sure its to warm up the engine and get those fluids flowing... if you listen closely(at least on the 01) you can hear water entering the heater core after it warms a little... at least i think thats what it is... it sounds like water trickling... so ya... its normal... not need to worry...
  22. BLAST! there is loads of snow on all the local mountains... and i'm not aloud to go to ANY OF THEM!!! gahhhh!!!! i think my parents are taunting me, "here you go Greg, have a brand new set of snow tires! but you can't drive up to whistler... when it snows you should stay home... the roads are all slippery!" reply, "Erm... ya... thats kinda the point..." i really want to go to whistler... like really really want to go to whistler... me and my buddy checked out a cool little road... not a very long road... but its 10 minutes from my home... now i just have to find a time when the gate is open! or buy a portable plasma cutter... which ever comes first... d*mn you BC hydro and your large impassable gates loaded with 4 protected pad locks... i don't think they want me going in there...
  23. heh now i can't wait to get the rear discs for my 79... stopping right now is somewhat of a challenge at times... i've gotten all 4 wheels to lock up not it, but that was on wet, with kumho power crap tires on it... with the new tires it isn't so bad... but heh... when i drive down hills(long ones... lots of em here...) by the bottom i can sometimes smell the brakes, and they don't work all that well... i've been told drums kinda stop working when they get to hot... i downshift as much as possible... but ya... 26 year old synrcos in the trans doesn't like it to much... i double cutch pretty much all the time(unless slowing down is of the upmost importance... ie... kittens on the road... ) but ya... double clutching requires me to take my foot off the brakes... so thats kinda redundant don't ya think? i'm working on my "sport shifts"... but my throttle pedal pad thingy keeps slipping off... making me either rev to much, stop to much, not stop at all, or not rev at all... working on my LFBing too... same results... way to much or not nearly enough braking... mind you i do this on empty roads... i'm going to shut up now and wait for my turn at getting some rear discs...
  24. no no no... here is the fun way... i recall somebody saying this before... so i'm going to repeat it... jack up the front and the back of the car... (on jack-stands... lets be semi-safe here) mind you your probably going to jack up the rear on the REAR DIFF... but hey... ignore that, we want to see if it works too! then once all 4 corners are up in the air start the car and see if the back wheels turn... there you have it! so simple!(and fun!) alright... if your lazy like me, just look under and see if there is a diff...
  25. this is all very interesting... i've sat here and read the whole thread... i got no opionions just because i have no idea whats really going on... i've got a carbed 79 brat... the only "computer" in my car is the spare calculator in my glove box... (although its a graphing calc... TI-83 all the way!) but hey, since i'm hopefully going to be getting into the newer subies... i thought i'd read up on some crazy tuning stuff...
