  1. hehe thats renassanceman's(sp?) brat... you can see mine behind his... but ya... he is running EA81 modded struts with RX springs... but his tires are such a tight fit! you can't fit your pinky finger in between his torsion bar suspension nubbin and the tire...(on the rear) i really like his set-up... there is a thread telling about his front suspension... its like performance mods for gen 1's or something... i was thinking that since he wasn't running stock suspension that they might not fit... and i'm not about to go out buy pugs and find they don't fit... your running stock suspension on your wagon right Kostamojen?
  2. alright i have been working on my car and have just finished rebuilding the carb...(kinda scared to try it out... not sure if i did it right...) but for now i have a spare carb on the brat... and i noticed a crazy quirk the car has at idle... it'll just be idling nice and pretty then BAM... it'll drop to zero then go back up again... it'll do that a few times then just die... its like the tach meter is blinking at me or something... kinda freaky... its also backfiring a bunch when downshifting, agressive upshifting, taking foot off gas without clutch in... this didn't happen on my old carb... my dad imediatly said breaker points... its not that i don't trust his judgement but he hasn't worked on a car to any extent beyond wiper blades and light bulbs in about 15 years... so what exactly are breaker points? i know they are in the disty somewhere... does my 79 even HAVE breaker points? if so how do i replace, gap, fix the problem? if not, then what the heck is wrong with my car!?!
  3. that gas door key lock kit seems like a pretty sweet idea... i've thought about how easy it is to steal my gas... even though when i open the gas door and the gas station the person manning the pumps usually tells me that they would have never figured out how to do it... hmmm... and its only 20 bucks... seems like it would be a pretty good investment...
  4. wow those look sweet! do you have rubbing issues with them??? last question... are they as tall as stock or more??? doing a quick calc i determined that you would need to be running 205/35 to keep stock height... so obviously those aren't 205/35's... so what exactly are you running for all of us who want such meat on out cars... looks good! can't wait to see the whole project finished! you gonna be supa fly!
  5. don't forget though... a lot of those new trucks listed actually have independent rear suspension... like the exploder and the ridgeline(i think)... don't hey the ridgeline is real-time 4WD... so its even worst... and the exploder is optional 4WD! so really you have more ground clearance and they can't brag about articulation... so subies are taller, just as able off-road, and won't roll over when you slam around a corner! horray for subies!!!
  6. i've been toying with the idea of BMW lights... they used quad round headlights for many many years... and they seem bright... my uncles are pretty darn good... i took a quick measurement but i think they will fit...
  7. it angers me that my 79 is on the imperial system instead of metric... why do you people use this stupid system!? 1 mile=1760 yards= 5280 feet= 63360 inches... what a funky arse system you people are still using... metric is the way of the TRUE lazy person... 1km= 1000m= 100000cm= 1000000mm (see a pattern yet? ) tcspeer... for you and everybody else who knows diddly/very little about metric, the whole system is like that... volume, mass, temperature(0° is when water freezes at sea level... so when its 0° its most likely snowing!w00t snow!) everything follows the same scheme as that ^^... its so much easier... and plus metric makes you sound like your car is really fast... thats my take... and hey my parent 01 legacy is in °C... i could go to the dealership if you like and check into getting a different display for ya... although that probably a bunch of work to change it over for just some different #'s... heck i'm to lazy to even change mine over... and i can reach the back of mine without taking anything off...
  8. are you running bigger tires on the back of your wagon??? was that just for sand use? looks sweet like that!
  9. ya when i locked my keys outa my 79 i got out a coat hanger and just creaped it through the window into the door and pulled the lock up... i broke my lock doing it... the key doesn't work anymore... but haha my dad is very easily annoyed... and the window makes a wining noise at high speeds because after the window got smashed(you might want to try that too:lol: ) by a theif it was replaced incorrectly... so on the way to whistler(just him alone) he pulled over on the side of the highway, got out and messed with the window for a couple minutes while the car was idling... well... that lock switch on the legacy's are pretty easy to nudge... he lock the doors... shut the door... then realized that he had locked himself out of the car with the car on... BAHAHAHA... thats what i told him on the phone... then my mom went and got him a key... but ya it seems you got lots of options now... so good luck!
  10. i've been told that replacing the cam is a difficult job... you have to split the block and everything to do it? if not how hard is it to do??? and with all this stuff put on what kinda #'s do you think your running??? and how does the fuel economy suffer(maybe gain?) from the mods?
  11. ok i'm just shooting my idea off into the wind here so i'm most likely wrong... but what if you had the engine rear mounted then flipped the rear diff(which would now be at the front) then here is the hard part... what if you attached a gear set to the stub sticking out of the trans then added a new stub(attached to the new gear set) that would attach to the axle? so 2 gears would be involved... one attached to the stub on the trans then the other attached to the new stub beside the old one... does this make sense??? i can draw a pic if need be...(although i can't draw worth sh*t) so then with that you have a completely reversed drivetrain with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse...
  12. don't you see the protective duct tape on the computer!?
  13. ummmmm... i'm pretty sure its 13.2 gals... which when transfered into liters equals the magic number of 50 liters... which is what my FSM tells me... and hey this is getting off topic... sorry bout that folks...
  14. ya mine isn't to accurate either... if i go uphill or downhill or even just a bump its gonna read incorrectly... one time i had almost a full tank... just below the full line... and i started going uphill and my buddy beside look at it and said, "hey your getting more gas! you could save millions!" heh... good times...(fyi... that was on the way down to WCSS7)
  15. i've had a bunch of stickers that i got from Mick a while back... so i thought i'd use em! no they aren't on the car... but they are on something that gets looked at a lot... so i thought it would be okay... Don't worry mick! i didn't get rid of the web-site thing that goes below the logo... i didn't think it would look as good... so i put it here!!! so there you go... i put this in the meet section because i actually have gotten comments on it and people asking what the deuce the USMB is... so what have you people put stickers on... besides your cars... i also have some suby stickers on my graphing calc... and i have a suby logo patch with an SPT patch below it on my old backpack... but thats it... how bout you? how do YOU represent suby?
  16. what i would go for is a 2.2 liter engine (an EJ22 its called) out of a early legacy... (90-94 i think... more models had them but i don't know them all) with a little tuning you could easily pump it up to 150hp... they produce a nice 135hp (round about) on there own... i think that engine is what you should look for... i've seen many on e-bay... some for less then 1000 bucks... with any older engines, to get that kinda power your going to have to look at a turbo... unless you want a 6 cylinder(ER27) out of a XT-6... but that isn't really worth the weight on a boat... i want to build my subyboat... so many things to do and no money to do them...
  17. i'm running the cotter pin style on my passenger side and the punch kind on the drivers side... both styles work...
  18. my 1600 is running poopy... i've driven less then 70 miles on a full tank and i'm already used a 1/3 of my gas... i need a 2wd disty and a rebuilt carb... you do the math i'm getting less then 15 mpg... your yukons lookin' pretty good mick...
  19. besides being able to jump like a mad-man do these new struts actually give better performance??? corner handling and such??? i saw you flying through the trails and everybody yelled at you to slowdown and you didn't damage a thing doing it... (i'm sure if i did that with my stock set-up i'd have a spring pocket through my hood right now...) how much might you charge for such a set??? i don't have the materials or the equipment to make it happen... would i have to change any of my stock things to install these??? (so i can change it back to a completely stock gig if i wanted too) i've been told/warned/threatened to keep my brat stock... so in favour of me not getting my thumbs cut off i want to stick with bolt ons... these struts are right???
  20. i'm in Coquitlam BC... gimmy a call if you need any help... mind you i have school so i might not pick up... and i'm kinda far away... but if its a dire emergency then i think i might be able to help out... when are you going exactly??? 604-831-5372
  21. heh sweet! looks like you had fun! good work!
  22. thats a nice looking RX... and hey your in BC!!! good work... are you appart of the WCRA or more likely the IRC??? i'm slowly getting into TSD rally... VERY slowly... and hey... about pugs... i call first dibs on the first set found in BC... i see the odd set of pugs around but they are all attached to cars... you also might want to check out saltair recycling... they deal only in subarus... i've gotten parts from them before but i have never been there... they are on the island... close to ladysmith... they might have some nice rims for ya...
  23. heh i do show people the engine... most people laugh at the spare... it being a full size spare... some have even asked where the engine is... then i point out that its sitting right in front there... then they see my air horns... have a giggle... then ask how to turn them on... then i do for a sec and the horns give a sad attempt at making noise and everybody giggles... its great fun... then they usually move to the passenger comparement and admire how i got a 12" sub to fit behind the seats... and how loud it can be... i love showing off my car...
  24. RenaissanceMan has put some RX springs and stuff on his gen 1... he told me what he did but i have forgotten it... he did it so he could jump the car... i've been kinda wanting to get my hands on some 4 wheel disk brakes... lots of hills and mountains near me... and when i go down them after lots of use my brakes kinda stop being as affective as they should... due to the drum brakes being... well drum brakes... i've been trying to think of a way to get a strut tower brace into the front without having to remove my spare tire... over it, under it, around it... i dunno... i wonder if you could upgrade the front brakes to vented disks??? or maybe a nice sway bar?? does my brat even have a sway bar???:-\ kinda worried about messing around with my car now... it works right now and i have a long (for me) drive to school everyday... what did you have to do to get disks on the rear... besides grinding stuff... some specifics would be nice... i've never done any work on the rear of my car... so this will be new territory for me...
  25. heh i just finished reading the entire thread... looks like your all doing a slick investigation... especially you Gravityman... thats a sweet set-up you got going... i hope you come up with a good result... to bad my car is carbed... yup... i read all 11 pages and my car is carbed... this is just me thinking...(ya it happens once and a while) but what about injectors from an EJ series engine??? would those at all fit??? i guess i could rip into the 01 legacy sitting in the garage but i don't think my dad would like that to much... he's touchy when it comes to me ripping things apart...
