i watched a show on tv where these people had to make a diesel powered buggy... they had to refine there own veggy oil to run them... from what i was told on the show it is safe to run your diesel on veggy oil but not all the time... it causes premature engine wear IF it isn't tuned to run on veggy oil... thats just what i was told...
-
you all know that running your diesel on veggy oil isn't very good for it right??? if you do it to often they will break... aside from that would it be possible to convert a suby engine to diesel??? it deffinatly wouldn't be easy... but then you would be able to say, "hey! i got a suby diesel!" and we would all be like, "whoa! dude! you got a suby diesel!" now wouldn't that be nice?

welcome to the board! i'm in Coquitlam so we are like 30(i think) minutes away from each other... my dad always takes our 01 legasy to the fountain tire at the bottom of the hill i live on... they do good work at a decent price... you coming down to the suby show??? we always want more people! and since you drove across the country the drive to washington is a piece of cake! i think it'll be like a 3 hour drive maybe more in my 79... you wannasee a brat??? one of 7 in BC??? i just found a guy who owns 5 of them... \ -
so wait wait wait wait wait... i can use my ea71 and have a 4sp d/r from the 81??? but i don't need the engine?!? so i will need: -tranny -linkages -steering rack -crossmembers -what about rear diff and drive shaft??? -do i need the axles, hubs and brakes?? -the rest of the steering stuff??? if i do go and do this i don't want to miss anything that i won't be able to get later... and since this would be my first conversion of anything, i want to make sure i get it all...
-
w00t! ok now i need some other info... if i were to get the crossmembers but not the engine and drivetrain what else would i need from the car to do the conversion??? the crossmembers in my mind are the only really essential part... am i missing something??? perhaps suspension??? basicly i am not able to do the work right now... and it seems that ea81 engines and trannies are in high supply right now so i need to know exactly what i need to take off the car and put in mine to make it work without taking the "big stuff..." i plan to do this later on when i have more money and time but these parts don't roll around to often... so i need a list of stuff i need from the 81 then unfortunatly send the rest to the j/y...

there is a brat for sale up here in Vancouver... but aparently it is all rusted out and it is not drivable... so my mind started thinking... the 79 brat and the 81 brat both have the same body style... so i assumed that the underside is also the same... but the engine and drivetrain are different... so i was thinking that if i use the crossmembers from the 81 and put them into my 79(they should bolt up if they are the same body) then i would be able to drop in the EA81 and the d/r... without fabing up oodles of stuff... am i at all correct to my assumptions??? partly??? if none of this stuff is right then anybody want to buy a really canadian brat??? its on buysell.com... thanks!

you did what in a who?! why wasn't i informed?! if i new about this(maybe i did i can't remember)... i would be next in line for this operation... did you get disks in the rear? anywho... i am thumbs up for the new forum... i think it would help me a bunch due to this 79 brat being my first car and me not really knowing how to do anything... it'll give mudrat a break from my constant calling too... he even picked up once and said, without even a hello, "whats broken now?":o

ya its deffinatly for snowy use... i went to the website... its confusing to read... due to it being a different language... uber sweet though...

i posted this like a year ago... and the car is still doing it... it doesn't do anything to the car and i haven't noticed any difference in performance... so if you want the car then buy it... the sqeak does nothing and i actually use it sometimes to tell me when to shift when i have the stereo loud and can't hear the engine(because who uses tachs? it requires looking down!)... i guess it could be a little annoying... but a little trouble shoot... has it had a clutch job done?? in all cases i have heard it happened after a clutch job...

OH REALLY!?! thanks tips! another mystery solved... -
TheSubaruJunkie, ya my buddy has a sony clie... his can play tunes but it isn't as good as mine... my rampage deck has a plug in like the one your taking about... i am debating getting a GPS card for my palm... the model above my PDA came with it for an extra 200 or something... sorry for the hyjack...
-
i wanted something of the sort for my car... so this is what i am working on... i got a palm Zire 72 for xmas... these palms are great! organization is a breaze and i can get the quality as good as i want it(right now i am running at 160k(not mp3... mp3's have a funny whinning sound that apparently only myself and my guitar teacher can really hear...anybody else here it!?!) right now i have 21 full CD's(all orginal CD's!) on my palm across a 1gig card and a 512 card(SD)... and when put into persective the palm is a way better deal... i have a music player, digital camera with video and sound, a day timer, a note pad, e-mail and internet surfing(using the bluetooth), a movie player, a person phonebook(with pictures!), a photo album, a gaming system, a full dictionary, and a nice calculator, a guitar tuner and tab writer... if you were to buy all of these things seperatly you would be out over a thousand bucks... i just plug in my palm into my car stereo and i got a perfectly good sound system that i can take out of the car and walk around with... i still prefer real CD's over compressed files of any sort... but until i get rid of my crappy deck i am sticking with this...

w0000000000000000000tttt!!! no more 9 hours of driving for me!!!(well... my mom drove last year... but you get the idea...) and i can take MY BRAT... (hopefully! john, its all up to you!) and since it IS closer this year i expect some more CANADIANS to come... i was expecting at least a couple canadians last year... but NO... when we pulled up to check in the guy looked at our licence plate and said, "where the hell is that?" and we aswered, "Canada," then he replied, "Oh... holy sh*t..." so... some questions: is there going to be a rally course? and judging from the pics there is going to be a mud pit to slip and slide around in without obstacles (like last year)??? thanks everybody, -

That is brutal... I hope she is alright... that is one of my worst nightmares... espectially since i have only gone 30 miles on it in like a year and bit...(besides the point) I hope that brat has given her some good memories... and thank god knowbody was in the passenger seat when that happened... WJM is right, "ALL of USMB stands with you!" incuding all the people up north... -
i just thought i would share my triumph... i've been looking for a FSM for my 79 brat since i bought my car... so like year and a half? and better yet i got it for free! i found it at school in the auto shop library and i asked the teacher if i could buy it from him... he just gave it to me! due to the fact that i haven't seen a gen 1 subaru here and he hasn't seen one in over a decade(except mine!) just thought i would gloat a little...
