ausubaru.com photo competition
Numbchux replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, That's on a pretty sharp right hand turn, the pic was taken from up the road where I came from, and I am pointed in the end direction, unfortunately I'm about 6 feet too far too the left. It was a beautiful drift, right up until that snowbank, and even then, I bet it looked pretty cool. -

here's a pretty cool pic of the GL on a trail on my friend's property -
I have two of them!!! I would say avoid the 3AT though, those gear ratios make it very uncomfortable (and hard on the tranny) at freeway speeds. but the GL (same thing + some luxury items) is awsome. Yea, both of mine leak some oil, the loyale leaks it onto the cat and smokes/smells funny, the GL doesn't have a cat. But 230k isn't too bad. Oh yea, RUST, this can be/usually is the end for these subies , look in the wheelwells, and get down on your hands and knees and look underneath, stick your fingers in it, make sure it's not completely rotton. good luck, and I think you'll love it! -chux

Well, She's not available that weekend, so basically my only hope is that i can convince them when I'm in town the 9th-10th to let me take it up with me, then I'd just have to change the oil and get some tires, and I'm in. OR, if we can figure out a way for me to get joe's xt6 , though if that does work out, I'll probably be parking it and riding with you guys.

It's not my subie I'm worried about, if it was here, I'd be along for sure, but I'm here, and it's in the cities. But, a friend may be coming up to visit that weekend, she drives an Aztek but I doubt she'd like to take it offroad at all, I've tried but she's still got payments, anyway, maybe we could meet you. I'll talk to her tonight, in the meantime, cross your fingers!

2005 Calendars for sale, 23 left!
Numbchux replied to Subafly's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you still have any of these? If so, sign me up! -
given that the loyale is FWD, I'd say the impreza is. The newer ones are faster by default, though there are some exceptions, but probably not stock. I personally know that I would just get myself in trouble with power, so i prefer the D/R 4WD cars, capable in a different way. But given your choice, I'd take the impreza -Chux

the accord springs you're looking for are the FRONT ones from an '86-'89 accord, to go on the BACK of your EA82 car. And the adjustable fronts as stated earlier. If that's not enough, just cough up the cash for a BYB 3" kit, you'll be much better off in the long run.

may want to drain/flush the gas tank, get some fresh gas in there -
I know some of you out there have it, and some don't (duh). Do you like it? Would you recommend it? Or would a big A.. single pipe be better?

Sounds like fun! We'd better see some pics when you guys get back!

D/R swap question -- axle issues??
Numbchux replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, I haven't actually done it, but will be next summer, and have been doing alot of research, I think the swap (converting drum to discs) doesn't require new axles. -
I got a 87 GL for $10.00
Numbchux replied to 1979BratOwner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice!!! The only thing better than a subie is a free (virtually) subie!!! -Chux -
hmmmm.....that too is a very good idea, or my friends suggestion, plexiglass, then you'd have a little greenhouse action on those sunny winter days. -Chux

Links for mods, performance and otherwise
Numbchux replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, yes sweet82, that's a bit more extreme than I was thinking, but still very cool, and exactly what I had in mind for this thread! oddcomp, maybe you should do a write-up or two for the USRM! -Chux -

exactly, and maybe any write-ups on doing some cool custom installs of stuff, like there was one about how to wire your fogs to a relay, instead of right through the switch, I'll have to try to find it. here it is: http://www.carcentral.net/content/guides/HowToInstallAuxiliaryLights.php Also a good idea for wagon speakers: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18402 -Chux -
I love it! I'm sold. I, too, have a roof-mount ski/bike rack with a fairing so I don't think the wind noise will be a problem. I think I may put mine a bit further forward, I love having the open air directly above me, and with the fairing, I think the rain would be pretty effectively deflected. Thanks a ton! -Chux

I know this has been posted in different forms for different reasons, but I'm researching my project for next summer, most of the parts I will be getting from local JY's etc. but there are a couple things I think would be better if bought new. And while I'm at it, I hope to make a good resource for fellow subie lovers to make their own unique rig! I'll start with the obvious one: BYB lift kits http://www.ausubaru.com/byb/ (I think this is the most recent link, please correct me if I'm wrong) and this one, which I just found out about, and must have as a part of this project! http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/ragtopsunroofs.html and some more info from a fellow USMB member, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22034 Any other ideas of cool subaru or universal mods that would make for a sweet addition to making a neat rig. Maybe fog/driving/off-road lights, push-bars, roof-racks, etc. -Chux

How airtight is this? I'm very seriously considering this to go with my project for next summer, but it would probably be a part of my winter daily driver, so I might have to find a way to insulate it better. Any ideas? Is yours vinyl or canvas? very cool!!! -Chux

yea, I think it would get raped my minnesota winters, but still, I WANT BAD!!! Is there a website for this dealer? If not, where else might I find one? even if I have to put a tarp over my car every time I come home in the winter, it'd be totally worth it in the summer!!! -Chux
