  1. hmmm, cool deal man. glad to hear that someone had some success in getting that stuff working again.
  2. dont worry, i dont like a/c that much to begin with, and i wouldnt ruin my brat like that.
  3. dont know about the spfi engines, but i know that the ea82t's that i have came with both, the iac is on the back side of the throttle and the aav is ontop of the thermostat. i ran into a problem with that when i mounted the xt6 throttle body onto a regular xt manifold. the xt6 throttle didnt have the iac valve and the car would stall out when i ran with that set up.
  4. might need to clean the injectors, maybe run a can of seafoam through the gas. might help even things out a bit. couldnt hurt though.
  5. thats kinda normal for plugs when you run additives or gas with extra stuff added in. i run chevron gas which has techron. most gas companies add cleaners and such to their fuels. thats most likely all the problem is on that.
  6. the fuel injected engines have both an idle air control valve and an auxilury air valve. the iac valve is usually on the throttle body and the aav is on top of the thermostat. it sounds like the aav though, there is a bi-metal coil inside the aav that is heated by the coolant in the thermostat housing. when the coil heats up, it heats unevenly and acts like a switch to let in more or less air through the valve. also might not be a bad idea to make sure that the hoses arent cracked and that the throttle and intake are clean. might want to get that car a seafoam treatment, couldnt hurt.
  7. i had gr2's on my rx and i have the kyb agx struts on my impreza, i wont go with anything else for a stock replacement other than kyb. the only exception being that they dont make an adjustable strut for the oldschool cars but i swear by kyb suspension, they make a very nice product.
  8. i recommend getting 15" rims and nitto nt450 tires. main reason i suggest the nt450's is that they are inexpinsive and they handle very well in various weather conditions including rain and snow. not bad for a ultra high performance tire. id also recommend at least a 205 width tire. i am currently running the nt450's on my impreza and i have em on my pugs that were on my rx and are now on the brat. cant wait to see how well that thing does once i get it running.
  9. that sounds like a leak between the turbo and hte throttle body. i would check where the plenum meets the throttle body, ive had it pop off partially, enough to leak, but not be easily visable.
  10. vss is vehical speed sensor, i think on the ej cars have two, i tihnk. one for hte speedometer and the other for the tcu or ecu, not 100% though.
  11. you never went on a ride with me through the mountains, my rx was faster than my impreza in the hills. and coming down the mountain is very twisty and there is no posted speed limit. most take that road at about 15-25mph, i rarely drop below 40. its all about knowing the limits of the car and no getting past em. then again, the rx out handles my impreza, god i miss that little car already. but yeah, stopping power wasnt the greatest in that car. oh yeah, and the hawk hps? pads are the street pads, way better than any stock pads ive seen and they work great in all conditions from what ive seen. i think they are made of a compound that doesnt require warm up to work. they do leave a bit of dusting though.
  12. this could be interesting, pity there isnt a big brake kit for the older cars.
  13. its even more fun when theyre dead:dead:
  14. if you search in the old school forum for "5 lug swap" there should be a bunch of info on it. lots of people have done it, granted i think its getting harder to get some of the parts.
  15. isnt that entire bit of metal that runs under the door sill, from wheel well to wheel well. im getting it all one peice and then cutting it to fit, as far as the under side bits and what not, thats going to be a bit challenging. if i do get you a set made, i might be able to bring em close to you. a lot of my family lives in the hillsville/galax area. if i ever get to go to my grandmother's again. i could bring the metal for you.
  16. you talking about the rocker panels/?
  17. you would have to get me something to go off of as a template, but im sure they could get you something that would work out well.
  18. went and talked to one of the only body shops in this area that touches rust, very nice guys by the way. was telling me that clark welding will be able to make replacement panels for me if i can bring them a good chunk of what i need replaced. all i gotta do is cut out a section of the rockers and floor and take it in to em, and i should be able to get a new chunk to replace whats rotten.
  19. awww, you went to tyhe dragon, well, aint you lucky:lol:
  20. bump, its nearly another month. im looking forward to it.
  21. basically,. thats my reason for liking the older cars in bad weather. now i just need to get the drive train out of another rx for my brat and ill be happy.
  22. rescued dogs always seem to be the most greatful and loving. my fluffball came from people that rescue abused animals. aparently the litter was used as taget practice by some west va rednecks. id like to hunt them st.bernard/beagle mix, somehow. we call him the mega beagle.
  23. there, fixed that for you.
