Equivalents for obsolete parts.
bajavwnsoobnut replied to Scoobywagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree too that's why I posted earlier about a database or something that is a crossreference for parts cause it's like the halfshafts on my 76 are from a z car and so I ordered a catalog from someplace that sells restoration/performance parts for Z cars and was looking through it and found other parts that look like they would work -
Need to know if pugs will fit
bajavwnsoobnut replied to SubaruRichie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well the 14 inch steel pugs that I handed over to Richierich had no problems fitting on cause I found that out too the hard way while I was putting on rims on my 76 for rallyX that were gen 3 wagon wheels and then tried the alloys too with no luck but yeah if need be just get one and make sure there is a return policy and just test fit it and see if the backspacing is correct -

bajavwnsoobnut replied to Zefy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah but with that you would have to be careful about humidity cause of having liquid nitrogen present all the time you could have it Ice up -
turbo chimney... stock on EA-82t?
bajavwnsoobnut replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
as everyone else has said it is from a XT or Alcyone (which is the same thing really lol) if it's imported and I am looking at making a NACA style piece on the hood when I get around to finding a turbo setup -

SUBARU Stealerships....not me!
bajavwnsoobnut replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah same here with me at Lithia the parts guys know me and start grabbin the old catalogs out for the part #'s for my 76 but yeah you rock I might take you up on that for a couple things in fact try looking up some taillights for my 76 (that way I know for sure that they are irreplacable) -
the electronic limiter is sat at 145 MPH so that's why I was wondering what would be the top speed of it without the limiter cause over here road and track had a competition for the top supercar and the STi beat out the Porshe GT3 byt a small margin but the #'s were almost the same for all tests and the margin was the price so that makes me think if there were just the minimum mods could it go over 200 on the bahn

Thanks Mick for the info so that means I can't even get parts for the motor either then? man this sucks big time and I got another reply back from the guy and he gave me the snailmail addy for FHI so I can trace the roots of this beast. so now all I need is to hope for a smallest cc motor class at wcss...... but still wierder yet why is a EA-63 a 1400 and the 65 a 1300 then?

here it is: Hello Mr. Neal: Thank you for your reply. We understand your frustration. However, you did not state in your original message that you had reviewed the Service Manuals for your 1976 Subaru. Therefore, we thought that we were directed you properly. We do apologize for this. I discussed your message with our Technical Services Department. There is only one representative that was working for Subaru of America in 1976. He stated that we did not offer an EA-65 engine in any of the 1976 models. In fact, he was not aware that we ever offered an EA-65 engine. He stated that we offered a 1400 cc manual transmission engine and a 1600 cc automatic transmission engine, which information would only be in the Engine Manual only. As for the VIN you provided, it is not recognized as a US vehicle. Is it possible that this vehicle was sold in another country. As we are the distributor for the US only, we are not aware of the specifications of vehicles sold in other countries. If the VIN you supplied is not the correct VIN, please contact us again with the correct VIN, as that might help us discover more information about your vehicle. We are sorry that we cannot be of more assistance. Best wishes, John J. Mergen Subaru of America gee no wonder I don't have any information on the EA-65 that I have

man just reading thins makes me think at least you guys are lucky enough to have replacement parts still.... yeah sure I can get mechanical and other various things still but there is little that is out there from subaru for my 76 in fact I went into the dealership once to see about a e-brake cable cause I am missing one and no aftermarket company makes them (unless I call Locar for them to custom make one for me) and they found one and it was the last one on earth and 120 bucks or so to get it! and as for hood, fenders, bumpers, fuel-door (still don't have one on the 76 yet), taillights, and stuff of that nature unless I make them out of fiberglass, carbon fiber, or kevlar or the mixture of the three I am screwed if they get destroyed cause can't find them at all. Luckily lately I have been doing some searching and have found some aftermarket stuff but they are intended for Datsun Z's but they are the same exact part as I have been wanting for the 76. so just think of it this way at least you have parts sources still and just think of skunkaroo and I with the Gen 1 Stage 1 rigs that have no access unlike alot of you guys out there.

Sometimes I feel I'm being ignored.
bajavwnsoobnut replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I missed that too Adam sorry and I am with skunkaroo on the gen1 stage 1 stuff cause I am goign to someday rebuild the 76 into a dedicated rallycross rig and I have also looked into making my own stuff out of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and possibly kevlar too (yeah I am thinking expensive too) for interior and exterior stuff with even making a hood out of CF or just fiberglass with a wrx style scoop in the correct wrx spot for an intercooler and then on the pass side a NACA style scoop for a turbo cooling vent and a dash out of CF with a custom gauge layout with the tach/speedo that I posted about awhile back so prolly in a year or so I might be able to pull it off or even get in contact with you Adam -
and the thought is?....... Is there a parts crossreference catalog of some type online so we could see what parts from other makes and models will work with our subies? And the catalog that I was looking at is from www.zcarparts.com and they have alot of things that can be used for subies of the gen 1 thru 3 kind. In fact I found the side marker lights I need for my 76 in there and also some good U-joints for my rear halfshafts for the same said car. soooo any thoughts on this? Oh yeah and also the reason why behind this thought is cause of if we can find a more popular car that has a restoration/customization aftermarket more so than ours we could use the parts from those said makes/models.

or you can goto like harbor freight or any tool store and get an EZ out and what you do is drill the appropriate (sp?) sized hole in the center of the bolt and then insert the EZ out and pund it in a lil bit with a hammer then use alot of penetrating lube before you crank on it in fact let it soak for like a 1/2 hr to an hour and keep adding lube then try removing the bolt then if you get it out I would recommend using anti-seaze on it or even some liquid mylanta (good shadetree trick cause it is a anti-seaze in a way) when you put in new bolts Edit: oh yeah and also if you are doing this with the head still on the motor I would recommend puting a cloth in the intake and coolant ports before drilling

Help me empty an EA81 fuel tank
bajavwnsoobnut replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well just clean the underside of the tank and there should be a bolt on the bottom of the tank near the center of the lowest part of the tank just put something under that and take the bolt out just be careful to make no sparks and have no open flame around and also recommend wearing some nitrile or chemical gloves and also some chem goggles or at least some safety glasses
