Loyale 4wd rear crossmember?
Except for the mount for the diff, are there any other differences in the 2wd one? If that's the only difference, I wonder if one could just cut it off the old one, or fab a new diff mount. I've had to do the same replacement on mine, besides finding the part, it's a pretty easy job. You unbolt everything from the tube, then just take the tube off. Here's right before I started unbolting the tube.

Driving in sand.
Honestly, I'm not the one to ask... I live in Maine. I was just down there for a few months on a business trip.

Driving in sand.
It depends on the time of year, I don't know what the rules are. But I looked it up, and I was there in a time of the year when it was free. There's a time when you have to pay, when only residents can drive (or something), and during the summer months nobody can drive on the beach. They don't want tourists getting run over, and more importantly, nesting turtles and stuff in the sand.

Great, you don't want a lot of tread to run in sand. The idea is to float over the sand, not dig in.

1-3-2-4's head gasket replacement
987687 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOil on top of the block is usually a leaky oil sender, power steering leak, or sometimes PCV leaking.

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
That's a lot of upside down welding sheet metal. I know how much that sucks. Nice work!

Gas Milage
The last 97 impreza gauge cluster I had the displeasure of pulling out was a cable. They probably changed in 99 or whenever they went to the phase2 engine.

You should use CV grease for CV's. Napa sells it, it's about $5 a tube. The big zipties work great on the axle boots.

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
Technically it won't seal without the pipe in the fitting. Because the nut presses the pipe into the seat, the right way to do it is to crimp the pipe off and weld it shut. For the dipstick I have an ej22 dipstick cut to the right length with a mark on it. That way it doesn't have a broken off handle thingy.

ya, my car is a cable. Cable converter boxes are stupid expensive. I just really blatantly don't care.

Flashing Oil Light
987687 replied to mikec03's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX^^^ I like that idea! Is your flashing light yellow, and flashes 16 times when you first start the car?

Flashing Oil Light
987687 replied to mikec03's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen does it do this regular flashing? That's really odd. Does the engine make knocking sounds while the oil light is on? The oil light has nothing to do with the computer, it goes right from the sender to the gauge. I'd definitely plug a manual gauge in to check it's running proper oil pressure.

Flashing Oil Light
987687 replied to mikec03's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDoes the engine make a knocking noise while the light is on? I had an ej25 that did this. The oil light would be on for about 5 seconds, maybe more every morning. Even for a couple seconds after sitting half an hour. It made a horrible racket, but shut up a bit after the light went out. It was just tired, got worse and worse till I swapped the motor :/ Never tried re-sealing the pump or anything, with 245k miles it wasn't worth it fora 25d.

Acceleration problems
987687 replied to SISUGUY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIs the transmission using first gear? If it was only using 2-3-4 it would be rather sluggish accelerating up to 15 or 20mph.

I'd guess so, seing as I have an 89.

The clock in my GL works fine... I should probably take it apart and do something to it before it dies... But if it does, i'll just put a LCD in there and make my own display. I think I still have some serial LCD boards laying around somewhere...

These blinkers suck so bad. You can't see them unless you're looking direct on at the car because they're set so far back. It's not uncommon for me to be at an intersection and people don't know if I have a blinker on because they can't see it. I keep meaning to add a relay or something so they also turn on the corner markers.

Gas Milage
The speedo cable has been broken since I got it. I don't care to fix it anyway as it would read wrong with the tire size change. I actually have a digital VSS in the tranny now. So someday I can wire up a digital one...

Gas Milage
My speedo always says zero. It's been broken since I bought the car, and unless I get really bored, it's going to be broken forever...

4x4 EA series rear wheel bearing
I've done it with a punch, and it worked fine. I didn't mess anything up. I have a thread about rear wheel bearings with pics in the USRM.

Gas Milage
Are you calibrating for tire size diference? With bigger tires the speedo will read lower, you need to multiply your gas milage by the percentage in tire size change to get an accurate number.

You can't really adjust the idle. The computer does that. If it's not idling right, it's because there's a vacuum leak, the iacv isn't working right, etc. There's still a problem.
