  1. I hate to see it wasted as well, so if someone wants to buy it whole, then throw me an offer. I just don't have the resources, space, money, or time to build it into a rig. I need a DD first, then a toy, and unfortunately I also need money :-\ So if I can't sell it whole, then I will part it out and send it off to the JY. Totally sucks, but I really don't have another choice right now. This accident happened at a very BAD time in our lives, and what is most important is me getting another car and coming up with money for that to happen. Make me really sad/mad that this happened Thanks for all the support guys!
  2. Well, it did roll for sure, I was upside down looking at the ground, it just didn't roll completely over, it stopped on the top of the A pillar. Maybe "roll" isn't the right word, but we were upside for about 2 seconds for sure. I was aware and conscious for the whole thing. Kinda freaky... Ya, I have thought about taking one of those courses before, but I think it was mainly I wasn't focused on driving, and that was the biggest problem. I manage to not hit the brakes and I tried to ride it out, but the back just got squirely to handle it, and I hit the brakes when I new the car was going to spin backwards hoping for the best at that point. But I think I am going to look into them either way... The main thing I learned is that you should be paying attention to driving and not worrying about other things, period. It all can wait. I was very fortunate in that my stupid mistake only hurt my wife and I, and not some random stranger. Thank goodness for that. I am still mad that my wife got hurt and not me, but I am thankful that no one was seriously injured. That's the most important thing.
  3. So on my way home from Seattle, I managed to total my car on the freeway last Saturday 10-2-10. The car hit the middle median/barrier and then flipped and spun on the passenger side started to go over completely, but then it somehow caught on the tires and righted it self facing the correct direction on the freeway. I really don't know what happened to kick it all off, but this is what I do know. My wife and I were arguing and I was driving down the freeway at about 70mph, and I guess I drifted over towards the median and hit a bump on the side of the road and it jerked the wheel over to the left. So then I tried to correct, and I over corrected, which then caused me to try to correct again, which resulted in me over correcting again, and this happen two more times, and then when the momentum caught up with the car and it started spinning so I slammed on the brakes, and when I did that it dipped the front of the car and it slammed into the median which then caused it to start to roll on to the passenger side. At this point we were facing the opposite direction. "Luckily" we continued to spin, and then the wheels caught somehow and we slammed down on all 4 wheels and stopped facing the correct direction on the freeway. We got really lucky. I walked away with nothing but soreness, and my wife is beat up from flopping around in the car with nothing to hold onto, and when the car was on its side sliding, the passenger window broke out which caused her arm to get some road rash from scrapping against the ground. She was smart enough to reach up and grab me and hold onto me pulling herself up off the ground. So she has a bit of road rash and some glass puncture wounds, but nothing very deep. So all in all, we got SUPER lucky. We could have easily been hit by other cars, or hit another car, but we didn't. It was just us. So after going to the chiropractor and urgent care, we got some good drugs and we are just relaxing and thankful to be here. Here's what my car looked like before the accident: . And after the accident: Here's my wife's road rash: It's funny, but the car still actuallly starts and drives. I drove it off the trailer So the poor thing really isn't dead But it is totalled for sure. The passenger side control arm is bent about 60 degrees up, and it's moved back about 3", so all that needs to be replaced, the A pillar is gone, and the passenger side is all messed up. But all things considered, it doesn't look all that bad. So now I am on the hunt for a new car. This time though I am go with a 90-94 Subaru Legacy. It's a great platform to start off with, and I actually like the lifted Legacy's more than my car, so in the end this will work out. I just sucks to lose a car you put so much effort into to make it your own, only to have to tear it all out. But at least I am still walking, so I am very thankful for that I will be parting the car out as well, so if anyone needs anything off my turbo, let me know. I will post in the for sale section as well once I get around to it I will probably update with more pics in the next few days as I remove gear and what not, and probably to correct some errors, as I have taken some muscle relaxers and I am doing great right now! Oh, and I suggest not rolling your car, its no fun at all.
  4. +1 If it works, yay, if not, just plug it back in... No harm no foul.
  5. I am going to have to swing by for sure man! Looks like a good area to work in I should be getting a 4" lift here real soon, so maybe when that happens we could get together and you could help me install it Either way I will have to swing by and check out the shop. When do you guys "open" for business, or are you guys already working? We need to get you a stereo for that car again as well I love my PG sub and amps! Glad to see you stayed stateside at least
  6. It could be lots of things... Air waves are funny things. Here's a good example of how one could "block" some radio waves. My wireless access point in my house is a linksys wrt54g that I have put linux on to. Since I installed linux, I am able to boost my signal power and turn on some other options that will basically make my access point "drown out" all other access points due to the high power with the anntena and by turn on or off certain options. So keeping that in mind all it would take would be someone that is transmitting something that is more powerful on the same spectrum to cause your remote to "not work". It could be as simple as someone turning on a micorwave. I had a cordless (home) phone that the reception would go to crap whenever the nuker was turned on. Same sort of thing could be happening at your house or your neighbors house causing your keyless entry to not work. Do any of your neighbors have a big satellite dish or a microwave dish around your house/garage? That could cause it to not work as well. Any type of large antenna could be the culprit. After doing some reading I found out that most keyless entry systems operate in the 300 - 400mhz range... That's a pretty low frequency, but someone could be transmitting something from that frequency from a fair ways away and still have it affect you. Maybe try parking your car in a different spot to see if it's any better? Then you could narrow it down by "location" or at least the general direction that something might be coming from. How far away are you when you try to lock/unlock it and it doesn't work? Are you right next to it, or in the house? Are you always standing in the same general place when it happens, or is it a different location everytime? This might sound funny, but when it doesn't work, try holding the remote up to your chin and try it again. Doing this *should* increase the range of the remote, at least it does for me. This way you can see if the "range" of the remote is just crappy. But this is all a moot point if you are standing next to the car and it doesn't work To me it sounds like it's something environmental that is causing it... Very strange.
  7. No worries. Just keep in mind that most everyone here does actually want to help others out, so GD comments where mainly to "steer" you in the right direction so you don't waste a ton of money. There are a TON of noobs that come on here saying the same sort of thing with big thoughts, and then they just waste money and then end up doing it a different way. It has happened before, so that's why he said something. Seems to happen all the time on here... But it sounds like you at least have any idea of what you are getting into. Thanks for all the info, now we have a good idea of what your plans are and what you kinda already know. It will be interesting to see how FWD stand up to the EJ22T power... Keep us posted!
  8. Welcome! I would first like to point out the of all the people that you should really listen to, it's GD. Ya, he's an rump roast (read his avatar), but he knows what's he is talking about. I am sure that if you would have mentioned that you were also building up the transmission, he would had said something different. So on that note, I wouldn't go around just bashing people because you think you might know more, not a good way to start off, especially the added sarcasm. If you didn't want to be a bit** then you should just drop the sarcasm and not be a bit**, it's that simple really. Fill us in more on your whole plan and picture (and that you have more than just yourself doing your project, since that is what you implied at first and what I thought until you mentioned you had a "wiring guy" helping you out), and you won't get comments like his or mine for that matter But anyways and on a non-dickish note, sounds like you have a really fun project, and you have most definitely come to the right place to look for help and knowledge! I can guarantee that if it can be done, it's probably already been done here Good luck!
  9. The battery I have in my Loyale is the one I bought for my MR2 before I retired it , and it's a different size than the one I pulled out of my car. I don't even know if it's suppose to "work" or not for my car, but it works fine, no problems. And I picked it up at walmart. I don't really know why you would have any problems, my just fit right in, no modification or anything. If you really don't care that much about it, just use zip ties, or use them as a temp solution until you can get the right parts. Just make sure you use the fatty zip ties, not the small, thin kind. I did that for my MR2 for about 2 years and didn't have any problems. Like mentioned previously, you should be able to find the battery "straps" (J bolts) and any local autoparts store. As for using an optima, they are great batterys and one of the nicest things about them is that you can recharge them if you drain them without losing any of the batteries capacity. This is really nice if you drain your battery leaving something on as it won't harm it to completely discharge it and then recharge it. I also know people that have been using their redtop battery for 10 years before replacing it. My buddy has had one now for at least 4 years and never had a problem with it and is still using it to this day. I haven't heard of optimas not lasting, but again, I have never owned one, I am just going off what I have "seen". The added "power" the battery CAN produce won't hurt anything. Keep in mind that the CCA rating and what not are the MAX it can put out, so I highly doubt that a loyale will pull all the power available from the battery, so it should be just fine. But I will say that the optima is a little over kill if you are just running stock equipment. Any normal battery should work just fine. If you do go with the optima, you *might* have to redo some connections to the battery, but I really don't think you will. I have seen optimas installed in soobs before without any modification, but I have not done it myself so I really don't know. But even if you have to redo the ends, it's not that big of a deal. I just did it on mine for my stereo install and it was a piece of cake if you use quality parts Basically I would just make the darn thing fit. Like I said, I made my battery that was designed for my MR2 fit into my Loyale, so you should be able to get the costco battery to fit as well. Can't imagine it being so far off that it will not fit at all. If your hood closes, then it should be fairly easy to get the battery to stay put if you use a little bit of creative thought Good luck man!
  10. I honestly wouldn't bother cleaning it, just grab one at a junk yard. I got mine for about $8 I believe and works great. The system is really simple. Just the one fuse for the power door locks in the fuse box and that's it. So unless your wires are pinched/cut, then it should just work. Probably it's just old and needs to be replaced. For $8 it's worth swapping it out first to see if that's your problem IMHO.
  11. Do you have any idea if the cruise was factory installed or dealer installed? For the ea series body style there were a couple of different types of cruise systems available, one from the factory (which you might have because you have a turbo and need a vacuum pump that was only available from the factory I believe), and a dealer installer one. The reason why I ask is because the dealer installed system is a complete stand alone system. It's not integrated into the ECU or any of that crap, unlike the factory one that is integrated into the car alot more than the dealer one. So if your system is the dealer installed version, then it should be really easy to figure out why it's not working before doing the swap and then fix it. Because it's standalone it doesn't matter what engine is in the car or what ECU the car is using so it makes it MUCH easier to get the cruise to work. The dealer installed system has a black box under the dash down by the hood release. It uses a pedal actuator that is controlled by vacuum to control the cars speed, so nothing to attach to the engine or anything, just the gas pedal. I think that this system would be the one you would want, because it is independent of the motor/ECU. I picked up a complete dealer installed unit in the classifieds a few months back, so they pop up every once in a while, and I would go this route. Here's my thread that has a little bit more info about the cruise stuff that I did and my trials and tribulations to get my cruise working properly in my turbo wagon: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=105299 I hope some of this info is helpful!
  12. Glad you got it working!
  13. No worries man, I do IT for a living, so I don't mind helping people out where I can!
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28protocol%29
  15. Congrats on the little one man! Glad that worked out well for you! Lame he sold the stereo, someone got a killer deal on that gear. Oh well, just means you can put some PG stuff in your new ride The outback would be a great car for sure, especially lifted and all that jazz. I look forward to seeing some of your projects man!
  16. Nice dude, the little one arrive yet? Of course I am looking to lift my wagon I have been working up in Bellingham helping Scott out, and in trade I am getting a 4" lift with some tires, so it's gonna happen soon I thought you sold your wagon? Did you not sell it, or is this a different one? I got some cool new stereo stuff as well
  17. Well, glad you are still in the area and got a job, that's awesome man! You still got the house up in grapeview? I will have to stop by one of these days and check it out the new shop man! I head up to Seattle quite frequently, so you are not to far off the beaten path...
  18. Well, this is exactly what my wife's Kia is doing, and we are going to replace the axle because it's the only thing a few of my friends could come up with after looking at the car really closely and driving it around. So I would say that yes, an axle could cause this vibration. Granted we haven't fixed the wife's car yet, but all signs point to the axle in my case... Speaking of which...
  19. I am interested in having/hosting these so let me know what you got A torrent would be a sweet thing to have as well
  20. True, but hopefully here soon I will have a 4" lift with some good tires It would be cool if you could come down and join us! Now I just need to find me some axles... Sup buddy, long time no talk! How have you been?
  21. Still need to fix my axles I am working on that now though. I have money for them, I just need to find them, and then replace them. Then I can actually do a little wheeling I will also be getting a lift and tires here soon as well So ya we should get something together soon!
  22. I really like where this is going I can already start to see it. Good job man! Looks like you will have little bit more wiring for me as well, but luckily no EJ swap stuff/fuel injection Good stuff!
  23. I am just applying the KISS (keep it simple stupid) to this, that's all First thing I have learned in diagnosing ANYTHING is to start simple. You might find your problem is completely obvious, then again you might not. If you don't find anything unusual, then we can atleast rule out the simple
  24. Check the driveline itself for obstructions or something on it, ect. Sounds like something is stuck on it somewhere. Hopefully it's something simple like that. But I would get under the car and see if that tells you anything new...
  25. Wuss! Just carpool up there with me I seem to head up there fairly frequently... Man Scott, how many projects you got going? Where did this one come from? Looks like your missing parts of your subaru though Can't wait to see this one done!
