  1. I had this problem a few weeks ago. Bog standard carbied EA82..oil blowing up into the air filter and occasionaly going down the throat to create a "james Bond' smoke screen. Much research and a visit to a Subaru dealer found me a fix. Insert about a square inch of green scotch brite bad (scourer for washing up dishes) rolled up in each PCV hose that leads to the air box. The air can get past easily and it allows the oil to catch and drip back to where it came. The Subie dealer has been doing this fix since 1990, works perfectly.
  2. I am with the Monstaru. See you all after the electromagnetic pulse!
  3. I like it. I like it a LOT. Is it electronic or points?
  4. Bravo Will, let us know how the megasquirt goes.. I have a V3 unit coming next week to run the new engine. Pre built, custom plugs for my application $510 kiwi delivered. I can't wait! What sort of power is the new mill making with and without the meth/water? Well done Dude. Matt
  5. Are they the same dimensions and fittings etc? Cheers Beataru
  6. Howdy all, I am upping the boost on my SOHC EJ22 and will be using the fuel system, does anyone know if the is an injector of a larger flow rate which will bolt right in place of the standard ones? What size are the standard ones? red topped I think. Are nissan ones the same style? Cheers Matt
  7. Mate, you need a late 80's or early 90's EA82T sedan. Swap in the lower control arms and cvs for better camber, Clutch pack LDS Diff swaps right in, Rear discs are a bolt in too. Its the only vehicle with all the stuff for you.
  8. They work OK but had no where near the spread I wanted. They are painted my signiture Matte Black and disconnected If you wanted to swap in some hot H4's the could work OK but they are fragile. I have two spots and four spreads. Its VERY bright and the wildlife isn't!
  9. Thanks L777, Will do. I was hoping there would be a little more EJ experience here.
  10. Howdy all. In feb I am doing a major mechanical swapperoo from the Wonder Brumby to a new donor Body. Rust is imbedded further than I can deal with. The WBII will be a 89 without the targa top. Currently the WBI has an LPG and a Blower on a pretty basic EJ22. The LPG thing is wonderful but a pain for me as the nearest fill up is 40kms away. I have decided that the LPG system will be sold, attached to an EA81 when WBI goes. So I need to work out what to do regarding going back to Gasoline. Options... 1) EJ22 block, SOHC EJ25 heads and inlet, intercooler and computor. 2) EJ22 totally, intercooler, electronic distributor and current boost contol set up. 3) Hybrid a turbo set up onto it with some EJ20 bits and bobs. I am hoping to retain the push type clutch and keep the lib dual range box.
  11. This is an awful photo of the exhaust port before rebuild, I tapped the blank and installed a third stud in each head for the header flange. I also hand ported the intake and exhaust openings and the manifold to match. ..... it almost breathed like I wanted, but still no torque to speak of. This is a head after planing. I was not the first to plane this head. Opposite valve position from a normal EA81
  12. The General is correct as usual, please let me add that there were various tunes available factory with the twin carb EA81's. I have owned a 110 (or 108) and a 120hp version. Definately more aggressive cam cut and differently jetted carbs. Perhaps a competition tune?. Revved its tits right off, used to bury the tach and SCREAM.

Every night Skipper, on SBS here in Australia @ 6pm.
  14. Hmm where to start....welcome firstly. Good choice of Vehicle too. Up the compression with some EA71 or SPFI pistons, this keeps the heads intact and the manifolds will still fit. Plane too much and they won't. Electronic distributor and a good coil is a must, loads of advance too. Yank off the mecheanical fan and install electric ones, there is five horses right there (little ones). Go for a weber or even a JDM twin carbie set. or.....Look into the SPFI swap , it looks the goods too. Port and polish all you want, they don't really breathe well, unfortunately. Only lighten the flywheel if you are shedding weight, there is a delicate balance and torque is handy stufff. Speaking of of torque...keep the Y pipe arrangement in the exhaust and then open it up to 2 1/2 inch. The torque is made in the backpressure pulses and the factory manifold does a great job. There is more.......search on. All the best Matt. (oh my God I think he photocopied my first post....spooky)
  15. Passengers keep getting out with white faces, vowing never to get in again! I need to weld that door up.
  16. I am planning the same, use the EJ20 turbo headers that wrap around the front, UNEVEN is best for torque gathering.... its all todo with the exhaust pulsing against themselves I have seen it done and it gathers more torque than my even ones. Keeps the pipes higher and out of the way. Fatz on the AUS boards has the vehicle now. Schmick.
  17. keep your revs up, MOST subies are a little light on torque and if your let your revs drop too much you may get into trouble. Use a gear lower or low range if you have it. Take a snatch strap, its only polite.....even if you use it to pull others out.
  18. Mate, I am trying to regulate the centre diff, not the front one. The front diff will stand up to it, I have seen a Brumby (brat) with an H6 with twin FRONT handbrakes- It has been running for years with the harshest of abuse. I am using the same principle and applying it to the middle diff with front and rear handbrakes. BTW the units (diff centres) are almost identical. Subaru didn't stuff around when it came to diff strength, Bless their rallying socks.
  19. I thought I would put this in another thread as it is different... When I went AWD I lost the ability to lock my centre diff. With the rear hand brake conversion in the works, I am intrigued to know how effective it would be offroad with front and rear handbrakes. From what I can see it would be a piece of piss to install and would give me bias control on the centre diff when wheels start to spin. Comments please. What do you reckon GD?
  20. Thanks Chux, welding mask on for me... I am going to give it a go. What the hell, whats at risk...a $15 junkyard CV, or a $50 diff Worst case is a $200 gearbox.. I will let y'all know how it goes.
  21. Ok fellas, has anyone run a welded rear with an AWD gearbox? I wonder what the handling characteristics would be... I like them tail happy!
