Well Yesterday was the start of a 1st ever PA meet. It was myself, Trogdor (Xtacy Turbo), and Phathur Kryme (PK). We started off with a little working on the cars then we headed out for some offroading. It was a fine day for it and the weather was nice, but about 9:30pm it started getting dark on a trail I had not been on before. I was driving along and saw some mud just a touch to late and gunned it to try to make it thru. High centered it and stuck good. We broke one Come Along trying to get it out and ended up leaving it there. At about 11pm we left it in the woods and walked out to cell service and called for a ride. We will rescue it today and I will get more video and pix. As always the whole story can be found at 4x4roo.com Thanks for looking -MORE- Went back to rescue the Roo the today. We tryed to take PKs Tracker in to rescue it and ended up getting it stuck too. We had to come along it up out with a broken come along. We got yelled at by the land owners of the gate we took the tracker around to get to the car. Once we got the tracker out we headed back to the ppls hosue to apologize and the guy seemed real nice. We ran to Adavance and bought a new come along and 30ft tow strap. When we got back to the Roo it had been robbed. The stereo and the subwoofer, the amp and the radar dector all gone. Well anyhow after some serious pulling with a come along. We got the Roo out and brought her home. So the damage report from the trip... Tracker: Bent to heck engine mount (big rock on the way out). Few scratches. Lotsa mud on and in it. Roo: Smashed up front bumper. Smashed up rear quarter panel. Lot of scratches all over the sides and wheels. Caved in hood (PK sat on it to give more grip to the front wheels). Serious amount of over heat. Stereo and all stuff that could be easliy removed from the car. Get more pix and video will get uploaded monday when I am back on high speed at 4x4roo.com Direct Link

I have both wipers, just one of them is a winter blade. I got one of those gooffy ones with the booty to keep it from freezeing this winter. It sucks in the rain, I just haven't gotten a new one yet.

Fender Rubbing: Problem Solved.
Tin Soldier replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Very nice looking. And for heavens sake don't ever paint them to match the car. Thats the most tacky thing. Kinda like those old Geo Tracker that had the wheels the matched the soft top. YECK! just my opinion. -
Actually my friend already suggested this. Has anyone ever tried? Maybe I get to be the first! Keep the windows cracked and the vents open it wouldn't be so bad. Just noisey.

HELP! I have a/c problems
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok, I will check that. If I turn the key on and then run the throttle the clutch will engage and disengage like it's supposed if the RPM's get to high. I will check the volts tonite and see what happens. -
I finally got to do a bit of offroading on friday! I had been jones for it since I bought the car. Just never found the time or the place. My new air filter sucked up a lot of water and it took all day saturday for it to dry out. I am gonna have to make a snorkel. Anyone have snorkels that are removable to keep the car looking nice when not offroading? Here is a short video of the fun. Probably have to create a login to see the video.

HELP! I have a/c problems
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How would I check that? It almost acts like it has to much pressure. Is that possible? -
I need some help with figuring out my A/C. My a/c would come on then it would squeal and shut back off. I thought I had a bad belt so I changed it out and it didn't help. I then changed the compressor and recharged it with the help of a friend who is a mechanic (used cool guages and everything, not that generic recharge in a can). It worked while at his garage with the car idling. Charged it up air got cold all good. Now it starts up, squeals and shuts back off just like before. I have a brand new belt on there, but the noise seems to be the clutch on the ac compressor. How much is too much pressure on this? Is the R134 stuff not good for a sube compressor? I used R134 nd I also put some a/c oil in it. It really stinks to not have a/c on these 90+ 100% humidity days.

Could be why I have been sick for this past week now. I developed a sinus infection that very night. I used the front struts and they seemed tighter then my old wagon struts. The rear RX struts where definitly shorter then my wagon struts so I didn't use them.

I didn't have to chisel it to get it apart. I just didn't have any nuts to put on the plastic adapter plate I bought. The little plate inside the OEM box that had the four nuts was held on by two very small welds that I knocked off with the chisel and hammer. This left me a plate with 4 nuts in the stock positions and slightly to small hole for the adapter plate to fit thru. I just enlarged the hole a bit and away I went. The wire was the easiest way I could think to keep it from flopping around in there.

Can you give part #'s and pix of the install for some of the rest of us. I have had dual suby fan before, but musta wired them wrong because I would blow fuses on real hot days.

Autozone sells a 3" adapter plate with four bolt holes in it now that works great for hooking up one of those cone air filters. I used a hammer and chisel to get the plate with the four nuts welded to it out of my OEM air box. Then I had to shave the whole inside of it down about 1/16th so that the 3" adapter would slide into it. Once I did that I had to drill 4 new hole to line up with the suby spacing. It took about an hour, but it was worth it. Now, it may just me thinking it's better, but it sure feels like I have a bit more power now. Seems to accelerate just a teensy bit better now. Oh Yeah, did I mention that I took a pipe and cleaned out the inside of the cat? I have video of the junk blowing out of the cat here.

Those are 100 watts a piece. I will have to do a alt swap probably, but no one has done the 100 amp swap on a/c car before I have two more that will mount to the front bumper once I get it on wednesday.

HEHE... Guess I don't have to worry about that here. I mostly do mud. The PK lift worked just fine for that. I have never had an oportunity to go rock crawling but I can see where you are coming from. I am still picky and don't like the way back wheel looks. :-P Just personal preference. Life would be boring without differences tho.

I had a lifted wagon, and offroaded it quite frequently and never had any problems. How fast are you going and what on earth are you hitting?
-
I found some boad racks at the junk yard and used that to build a light bar.
-
So I am out in my driveway changing rear struts when a guy pulls in and says he has a green wagon just like mine. I can have it if I come get it. Of course I will take it says I. Drove it home with illegal inspection and invalid plates. Only 8 miles. Ran good, but has bad brakes and it's been wrecked. Overall tho it's fixable and totaly driveable. The inside is kinda trached but I can fix it all more pix at 4x4roo.com

Opinions: How does it look? Improved? (pics)
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those are currently 14" wheels from a mazda pickup redrilled, with douglas 215/75R14's (I think thats the size) I generally go by the 26.5 that the tire calc told me -
I bought this car off a board member because I wanted a good solid base to start my offroad project from. I chose this one because it has 5spd d/r and spfi. It had been good to the previous owner and was in my price range. It had the typical Subaru rust as they all do. One hole let water all over the back floor and so I had to take the carpet out. I paid a kid from my church to do all the body work and painting, and rear bumper. Overall I am pleased with how it turned out for how little I spent. I did a major interior swap, XT6 front seats, grey rear split (it was blue to start), grey door panels and cargo area, steering wheel swap, shifter swap, new pedals, and of course sound system. I did some wheel bearings and swapped the wheels for Mazda truck wheels. I plan convert it to rear discs brakes and a 4inch PK lift. I should be getting a new front bumper next week (I will post pics when it's on) and I hope to get a Mudrat79 custom roof rack at some point. So without further ado.... Here is how it looked the day I brought it home and yanked the broken hub caps, (they didn't like the drive up from WV). This is how it looks now. I have RX struts in the front and Honda springs in the rear to lift if up about in inch in the front and 2 in the back. The rear springs make a ruffer ride but are nice for hauling and towing stuff. (no I don't have a problem with axle strain) and here is a shot of the rear bumper. I like it, but it has a slight design flaw that I have to get fixed next week when I pick up the front bumper. I will probably go with a set of Swampers when the lift is done or some Coopers. I like both and this is a daily driver so I need a tire that can hold up to road use and still be good offroad. So whaddaya all think? Improved?
