It will be much more accurate if you go by percentage. Your speedo will be twice as far off at 50mph than at 25mph.

these are called touring wagons....right??
Snowman replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do they attach to the lap belts? -
Not to insult your intelligence (it insults mine more actually), but I had the same thing happen when I reversed a rod cap.
-
It's probably easier to cut a notch in the existing X-member, but you can put in a turbo one too.

I have yet to see a complete kit available for the EA82. Just call up the guys at 1stsubaruparts.com or email the people that are selling discounted OEM parts in the marketplace, and order an overhaul gasket set, main bearings, rod bearings, an oil pump, a water pump, timing belts and tensioners, and a piston ring set (am I forgetting anything?). Have your heads redone by a machine shop, and you're good to go. If I remember correctly, the parts plus the machine work cost me around a grand when I rebuilt my EA82. Whatever you do, don't go to NAPA, Schmucks, etc. The parts will cost more and they won't be as good.

Simple question: What's the best price you've found for a complete set of Outback struts and where did you get them? I've got a friend who wants to lift her 91 legacy wagon, but doesn't have a ton of money to spend on the car. Also, what have your experiences been with tires? What will fit on the car with the lift but little or no fender trimming? Edit: Another question... How does the 4EAT transmission hold up to running larger tires and the stresses of mild offroad use? Thanks in advance.

Seafoam injection for older subes.

Didn't Skip have a setup with a washer-fluid bottle that squirted ATF into the exhaust manifold? -
Rguyver did it a while back. I believe he was running the EA82 SPFI fuel/spark system with close to stock boost levels. You'll have to ask him about it, as I'm not sure of the specifics, I just remember reading about it.
-
There should be a main oil galley running all the way to the rearmost main bearing. As long as the squirters have plenty of restriction so as not too bleed off too much pressure, that should work fine.

Installing oil control rings...
Snowman replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did they send the wrong rings? I was speaking from my EA82 experience. All of the EA82s I've seen have had a little indentation. That's all I know for sure. -

There should be a little indentation for it in the piston. I can't remember if it's on the top or bottom, but it should be there somewhere. -

That can be arranged:brow: . -
Are you talking about swapping over to turbo heads, intake manifold, ECM, etc, or keeping your heads and the SPFI fuel system? Rguyver put SPFI and turbo on an EA81. You might PM him about how he did it and how it turned out.

Mobil1 10w30 with a Subaru filter. Thinking about switching to the 5w40, but I'm not sure yet.

Actually, the brown brat started life as a hatchback and got chopped. I'm not sure if he's on the board now, but his username used to be "lumpycam". If I remember correctly, none of the rigs were trailered there. They all drove.
-
Yes, definitely change the filter as well at that interval.

Flossin the 15" wheels + new tires!!!
Snowman replied to Kostamojen's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
That paint scheme would look so sweet! Maybe make the fender flares and rocker panels the same color as the top of the car. Either that or paint them black. Another thing that might look cool is a blue pinstripe a couple inches above the color change line. -
Would this be a leaking head gasket?
Snowman replied to shorepig's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's possible for the HGs to leak oil externally without contaminating the coolant, as the oil passage to the head is right on the bottom of the block. If it's an EA82, it's more likely the head to cam tower mating surface that's leaking though...that's a really common problem on these engines. -
Evidently, stock is best. *dyno charts*

So is it just in '88 that this setup was offered? -
I've got the same 14" Pug steelies with 27" BFG A/T's on there that you saw this summer. I know the rims look kinda small, but they were the right price and I like having a bit more tire than rim because I think there's less chance of damaging the rims on rocks and stuff.

Help!Resealed engine...zero oil pressure..FIXED!
Snowman replied to mbutteri's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The lifters probably aren't pumped up yet. Unless it sounds like a more sinister noise, just drive it and it should work itself out. -
i think its broke. and i think i know why
Snowman replied to suberdave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Myself and others have looked into replacing the bearings on the EA82 tensioners, and it's not possible to do in a cost-effective manner. The shaft the pulley rides on actually forms the inner race for the bearings, so it would take a lot of work to install a new bearing and make it functional. What's the best price anybody has found for tensioners and where was it from? -
Oh man, that's funny! I work at Chilkat Guides during the summer and that was my car. Do you remember the girl's name? (There's a lot of cute girls that work there).
