  1. Chances are, yes. We need to see the sides of them, to see if there are oil feed/return ports and coolant ports. EDIT: IT does look like the turbo mounting holes are there and tapped. I'm going to say yes. Also, I didn't realize how much of an offset the intake ports were.
  2. This belongs in the New Gen Forum. But it's 130ft/lbs. According to this thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24985 second post down.
  3. I'm guilty of that... back in my new to EA82 days.
  4. I think the axles are the biggest hang up. You're meaning articulation, right?
  5. Who has the EA82 wagon that's made into a 4 seater brat? Can I see some pics?
  6. Forgot about that...my bad. I think someone's saying that driving on pavement might be a bad thing:lol:. I know that if you drive a 3.7 automatic witha 3.9 rear diff, stuff breaks. I bought a car from someone that said the 3at kept blowing up, he's had a "Subaru Only" shop replace it and try to fix the problem. Well someone along the line decided to put a 3.9 rear diff in it. Hey, it made doing a D/R swap a LOT easier.
  7. Not arguing with ya. I agree with the ea81 being better offroad, I thought the conversation was about GL and DL offroading. But the Hatchbacks have a shorter wheel base. And if it's only used for offroad a cellophane window wouldn't hurt:lol: . But if you use it for on and off road, then you best be careful with the rear window.
  8. It's not the straight lines that hurt the car in 4wd, it's the turning. But why are you in 4wd going 80? If you're in a situation you need 4wd, I don't think going 80mph is the smartest thing. It's like people with sutdded tires. They are an increased buffer, not a reason to go normal speeds while it's icy.
  9. They are all the same...GL and DL, Body/Drive Train wise (Not saying that DLs have D/Rs). All the GL and DL are trim levels. You can take a lift out of a GL and put it straight into a DL. GD just doesn't like DLs because they don't have things like a tachometer and volt-gauge (I think). And they are bare bones. In my opinion, they'd be better for off-road because they don't have the extra weight that is power windows, door-locks and what-not. I know, I know...like 10 lbs of stuff. You just have to swap a dual range. And with the dual head light setup you have more head lamp options.
  10. Engine still in the car? I had this problem twice, once in the car, once out. Having it out was a lot easier. Take one side off then take the head off that's still attached and rotate the head. In the car, takes two people. One person is pulling up on the manifold while the other is moving it side to side. Soaking it with PB.
  11. Do the basic diagnostics like Compression Testing it. What kind of smoke? Is it white? White is steam, gray-black is oil. Take the down pipe off the turbo and check for turbine shaft play. If the results from the compression test are good, replace the intake gaskets...OEM of course. Once the gaskets are replaced and if it doesn't blow anymore steam do a tune up: Timing belts and components, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, thermostat, maybe a coil (money allowing for any of those). That's a nice car, I paid $400 for my RX and I had to reseal the whole engine and it's an 4eat.
  12. :eek:Never heard of that...hah hah...just kidding. I think the 5speed is better gearing (slightly) for offroad, but I know it's great for daily driving. Gas mileage wise. Oh yeah..."DOOOO IITTTTTT"
  13. He's trying to up his post count (joking)...at least be somewhat constructive though.
  14. Wow, this sounds like when my friend and I tried to take his axle off of his ea81. I think someone managed to get the roll pin in when it was a tooth off. We were taking the tranny out anyways so we left the axle attached then removed the tranny, that was very odd. When we had it out, I stuck a cutting torch in the hole and it heated up the rollpin material way before the axle or stub got warm. Once the material was glowing we tried to punch it out, worked a little bit. So I got it red hot again and then blew it out with the torch. If you're not taking the transmission out, try heating it up, the roll pin. Make the pin red hot without making the stub or axle cup red hot, then hammer a punch through it.
  15. It's a piece of history . Really? I could think that a little known vehicle that the Americans used in WW2 that had 4wd (a jeep:lol:). Seriously, I wonder if I could get $15,000 for my RX, it has ALL WHEEL DRIVE...and a TURBO (Which Subaru made before and longer than any other car manufacturer!). Yeah, WTF.
  16. Or maybe, why? There's more efficient ways of being efficient. Cool concept though.
  17. The first is here and the notes of interest are here. Is that what you wanted? Or did I just completely crap out?
  18. Very good point. I don't look at it as burning down, I look at it as weight reduction.
  19. That's good to know as I don't like bogging in the mud . I like the technical trails and stuff. But I am also not a die hard off roader, I want to be, just need more time. I don't know if it was clear in my post, I don't own those tires, I was just looking into them. Now I'll save my money for better tires.
  20. If you use the right size wire, right size fuse, and right amperage of switch, you can probably get away without using a relay. But if you know how to install and use a relay, I recommend it.
  21. Nothing special, at all. Just trying to keep it stock-ish. Waiting for my rule book to arrive it's taking forever. Just want to participate in the stock class and see if I can finish. The major thing holding me back from going is logisitics. I want to use my EA81 wagon.
  22. I'm working on something for the Baja right now, I'm hoping to get into the November Baja. But looks like I'll be delayed a year, again.
