  3. look for droped valve guides they like to fall down into the exhaust ports
  4. never herd of raybestos ball joints not avalabble round theese parts
  5. thrust berring check crankshaft end play should be almost 0 movement push on clutch fork and front pully back and forth see if moves
  6. put in a factory subaru thermostat 195 temp
  7. had to slot the braket and use the choke power supply to power it up and done only needed one wire
  8. I'm sorry but moog realy droped the ball on thiss one have been there with moog parts over 100 times and have never sucsessfuly been able to install that boot. Even with the whole shop at my dissposal press and all. Beck arndy parts seem to fitt better. And even a dealer ball joint is fairly cheap
  9. weird never seen a bad ecu on ea82 t mabee just never came up before anyway have 4 of those ecus all good. I very rarly ever see a bad ecu mabee two out of 2500 cars both had shorted wire harness. One was loyale spi turbo other was a outback 3.0 six
  10. nope disstributor pu whould be my gess is the crank and cam senser all in one if you lose the crank senser part no spark if you lose the cam senser part no feul check the wire harness on plug at bottom of diss or coil ground or diss ground. Ecu fails very rarly and will ushaly run with bad ecu just not properly. Or the ig fusabble link is bad or shorting
  11. moog subaru ball joints are not so good very poor fitt and boots are poor fitt get a made in japan one have many problems with moog subaru parts
  12. have come axross some weird water pumps when they have a oil cooler more spigots and differnt thermostat housings
  13. have had good luck latly puting a small vice grip to hold the belt to cam pully on ds side so it cant jump time the ps and crank will stay on there own is a tight fit to get tetioner back in
  14. clasic gasket vibration taking the coating off the gasket is gone on the bottom at the back of the head was it leaking coolant into the oil pasage ? was the gasket leaking into the headbolt and then out the side ? When i install new gaskets i glue them with avinoic form a gasket to insulate the gasket from vibrations. How was the timing covers to remove fun eh
  15. fun is a 79 wagon with a 09 sti engine and 5 speed high low havent driven it in while but after driving a justy around is a bitt more fun and mabee a few more hps than my 1.2 auto justy lol
  16. check feul preshure by pinching return hose and see if engine picks up rpms if so pump has a good reserve if not pump is weak
  17. have five or six of them i put on a 100 amp caravan alt from a 86 2.6 mitsubishi engine van have to change a cupple things butt 100 amp works good have one on my 81 brat for jumping dead cars
  18. I will not waranty any engine i sell if that conditioner is installed not even mabee. the six has a torque converter axsess under the ds intake by the heater hoses is a removabble plug there. Most of the leaky headgaskets i see are leaking coolant into the pan and the coolant evaporates from the oil and is pulled out by the pcv you do not see thiss part of the leak but its there. By the time you see coolant on the bottom of head you are doing engine damage because it has to get past the oil pasage ways to leak out the bottom.
  19. The head studs from ea81 only fitt in the 3 center bolts to short for the rest the other upgrade is to use ea82 con rods they use a bitt wider berring and are stronger and berrings are easyer to find. the ea82 pistons or ej2.0 will fitt two i like the ea82 pistons because they have better and stronger ring lands. and can rev higher without piston damage
  20. have mixed and macthed them but like gd says have to use the whole back half the front case and parts are the same have fixed many 5 speeds. I find they break alot more than the autos do 10 5speeds for evry one auto i do. The awd overheats if driven at to high of speed for to long or differnt tires or uneven tire preshure. And lots of main shaft support berrings or run low on oil I must be at 5 speed # 12 for thiss year
  21. have both ea81 and ea71 runing on ea82 carbs works realy good must be 85-87 non feedback carbs some addapting requred but works realy good my ea71 pu probly 25 % power and the ea81 about 20 % more butt the runability was way imporved
  22. change the belt or titen it is sliping on the ps pump
  23. use a old cable inside and slip it past and work it like a saw around the glass to remove simple job think you have to unbolt the lower trim and upper trim inside and out to get it just right
  24. turbo or non ? i would add change the middle 3 headbolts for ea81 head studs they fitt and give you a 1/2 more thread in block strech the cam caier oil relef valve springs to bring up oil preshure and probly safe to reuse pistons unless to baldly scratched. And use the subaru gasket set is far better and headgaskets have extra renforcments and comes with lots of good extra stuff piston pin clips valve retairs oil plugs ext and if from subaru at least you know its right and fits
