Failed ECU....93 Leg OBD I ?
mikaleda replied to Gloyale's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXA few cars got obdII in 95-96 it wasn't until 97 that it became mainstream. An easy way to tell is if there is a diagnostic plug in the dash.

Failed ECU....93 Leg OBD I ?
mikaleda replied to Gloyale's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTry using google to search this site, it works better than the search bar. Just type in :link ultimatesubaru.org after your keywords and it will give you results from this site, I know there is info on here about what your asking, just keep searching Try searching coolant temp sensor Also new gen FAQ sticky has the info on the obd1 codes first page.

NAPA floor jack almost came apart on me
I had that happen to me yesterday but luckily the car didn't fall, I had it jacked up doing the rear bearings and one of my "HArbor freight" jack stands slipped. Good thing I left the jack under the car and it held, time to get some better jack stands.

Brat makes interesting mystery sound?!?
Not true my 1980 ea81 has a vaccumme actuator for the hvac it's never had ac, I think it's for defrost not sure. It's under the glove box you'll have to remove the plastic peice that covers it.

Inner Tie Rod? Outer Tie Rod? Ball Joints? or Struts?
mikaleda replied to UMT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI doubt the inner tierods are the problem, and did you jack the car up off the ground before you checked everything? The front end needs to be off the ground or even a badly worn balljoint or axel will feel tight. What you are describing could be outer tierods, ball joint, swaybar links, control arm bushings, wheel bearings (probably not in this case), or a loose strut top (also unlikely unless you recently had your struts changed)

80 Brat strut options / jump seats
Ya the replacement kyb's are welded to the Max height instead of being adjustable. If you want adjustable you need to replace the cartridges in the old struts.
-
80 Brat strut options / jump seats
If your struts look like this than order them for an 84 brat or wagon they are all the same.

"02" outback ECU question?
mikaleda replied to schekan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf changing the ecu made it idle correctly than the IAC is fine and he is probably right about the ecu being the problem.

83 EA81 fuel gauge..no power to sender!
If you connect the sending wire that goes to the sender to ground it should peg the gauge.
-
Temp Gauge Spiking
More than likely the wire going to your sending unit is grounding out somewhere.

80 Brat strut options / jump seats
Do your struts look like this The black one is the original subaru strut and the grey one is a Kyb gr2 replacment. These are mc pherson struts.

charging system help
Not realy that accurate though. I am a shadetree mechanic and I use a multi meter, in most ways it's actually easier that disconnecting the battery cable.

80 Brat strut options / jump seats
Yes that is true just make sure you have the McPherson struts, they are quite a bit differant than the earlier style.

A Stereo Ponderance 2005 Auto HVAC
mikaleda replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYikes! i can see why you want to wire another radio inline, that looks like a pain. i did a little forum searching and there is another option for wiring two radios together, it sounds like diodes don't work well. there was a few people that used DPDT relays or switches but, there were people that used diodes and it seemed to work as well. i'm not quite sure how they wired the relays but it sounds like only the positive side needs to be interrupted on the radio that's not being used.
