My 2.5 to 2.2 swap needs a little help to match CA standards
ferp420 replied to AdventureSubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXat some point in time some one rewired my check engin light to my alternator light i was woundering why there was a funky wire draped from one harness to the other im guessing it was the shaddy dealer my girlfreind got the car from but im not gona mess with it the car came that way its gona stay that way its also a odb1 system i dont think it would work for a odb2 system and i remeber hering that the ecus have the vin programed in to them and can mess with smog if you swap them but a ref could take care of it im sure becuse people swap ecus all the time i know the ecu can also be programed to do what ever you need it to we did it with a lt1 383 stroker swaped impalla ss to get it to pass smog it wasnt cheap though

98 outback lift parts on a 04 lego
we will most likely buy new struts front and rear we already have the springs from the 05 this car will never be used off road just driven on back roads that are poorly maintained atleast twice a day and the extra ground clearance would save the under belly

98 outback lift parts on a 04 lego
right on any known issues with running the rear 2" overstock

98 outback lift parts on a 04 lego
we are giving up on our outback wagon needs to much work to make.it reliably do a 120 mile comute every day so we are looking at a 04 lego my question is can i use the bodylift componites from the 98 on the 04 im sure all the spacers will work but what about the trailing arm brackets i havent been able to get the 2 side by side to check for my self if not how imterchangable are the 04s and the 05 i.have a freind who slamed his outback xt will his old struts and springs work on the 04 and since he slamed it it dosent need a body lift kit will that fit then 04 lego i would rather use the parts off of the 98 though because its more than likely going to be parted out anyway

Replace clutch, or get an Automatic Trans.?
when i did my ea81 clutch about 10 years ago i just reached in and grabed the motor set it off to the side and did the clutch just a simple socket set no hoist no jack stands no laying in the dirt the hardest part was finding the right pilot bearing i do use the cherry picker for the ea82s and ej2.2/2.5s more because im geting old and my back dosent like lifting motors anymore if i remeber the ea81 will just sit in the engine bay kinda sideways and give you more than enuff room to work on the clutch with out disconecting the wire or fuel lines or accesories still have to pull the radiator and drop the exaust though if your carfull with the oil pan u can use a floor jack to lift and move the motor around kinda like a vw but then again trannys are easy enuff to r and r ether way a hell of alot cheaper and less labor intensive than swaping to a auto you would need a few.more parts than just a trans and even at pick and pull the parts would get pricy

Rear hatch handle fix?
i dont have the trim pannel on my hatch there is a rod from the handle to the latch thats easy enuff to get to and open the hatch from the inside i dont see any reason for a handle on the inside but shouldent be hard to fab up a simple ring on a string sticking out the top of the pannel would work well to i think

Towbar for brat
i use a univeral reese tow bar with modded end pieces that mount to the lower tow hook/tie down points aswell also have used the vw tow bars hooked on to the sway bar alittle sketchy though but in a emergancy it works the universal tow bars dont look that strong but are used alot ive had many of them and never had one fail a custom tow bar would probly be stronger cheaper but would only work for the car it was made for the universal can be made to work on most any rig from vws to full sized ford trucks

after i took this pic i floped it on its side blew the bead on the front passenger side tire bent 2 of my lift blocks and exploded the rear axle geting out of the crack i just wish i had more energy to fix it and wheel the rest of the day but wasent gona happen i dident get to ride ether but it was still a fun trip im loving not having the back windows i dont have to worry about braking them out throwing stuff around in the back or nocking them out wheelin or efin around the shop im thinking it needs some small porthole windows in the back that open or make the back hatch window open that would be cool but might be abit much work but i could fit my surf board inside and i do have a extra hatch i could play with maybe down the road- insperation moves me brightly

ive done alittle more work on my rig i ended up welding the back doors shut the bondo was cracking and was more noticable than i had hoped for i welded up my spare diff and installed it replaced my front springs only to crush them again and decided to add 2 more inches of lift and because every puddle i went through the air filter got wet i added a snorkle and put the first coat of paint on and did the rear disk convertion i just wish i had some more time to rest before i went to test it- Installing Engine and Transmission Together
the engine and trans package is so small and light i personally think its easyer to do them together i did my swap like that on my 91 loyale i did it by myself in and out no problems ive done it both ways seems to take twice as long to do them seperately on a side note i also did my scout like that and never again the 6.5 td with 700r4 and tcase is quite a large package for one person to handle but i did it- Loose Window Glass
i have the same problem ive never done anything about it its great if you lock your keys in the car but sucks when it falls inside of the door or if its off track alittle its on my list of things to do i have a replacement door and could always glue it back in but it dosent bother me enuff too do anything about it- Best Way to Scrap After Removing the Drivetrain
i cut mine up in to 3 pieces and tosed it in the back of a pick up truck with a few other items left over from my scout repower project pulled $200+ for the steel its worth taking it in your self if you can- To hell with 2.5s
ferp420 replied to sumoco's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXim in the middle of the same swap 99 lego 2.2 to 2000 forester sofar so good the throtle body is different and the exaust is different and a few sensers are different nothing big and sould all be on the old motor thats all i noticed so far seems easy enuff - insperation moves me brightly
